Comment Fail

Do you find you’re not being notified of all comments?

Later, someone new reads and comments on an old post, and I see that several people commented. Or, someone hasn’t posted in awhile, so I check their blog, and they’ve actually replied to me, but I never knew. Then I wonder, should I be the blogger who replies six days or six months later? Is it better late than never, or best to let it go?

How do other bloggers handle this?

Please know, I do not intentionally ignore comments or replies, either on my own blog or those of others.

  1. My notifications have been all screwed up lately. I only get about half of the emails, and even the blue dots indicating new comments on WordPress have given up.

I don’t want to snub anyone, but what can we do about it? I try, but some may slip through the cracks.

WordPress has its quirks, sometimes a few too many. I’ve lost count of how many times I have to go through a couple of extra steps in order to edit. My page turns up as it does for the general public minus the option. Preview seldom works… The most recent thing was attempting to post a badge on the sidebar and the link disappearing when I hit save, which is why I post them when I can as a photo on the blog.

Not getting comments doesn’t surprise me. I don’t get notifications I sign up for lately, not in my spam, not anywhere.

    Good times.

Yeah, my notifications are all over the place. I’m thinking I should go back a week every day and just read my posts’ comments, just to make sure. I don’t think there’s a time limit on how long a missed comment goes unreplied. If I find it, it’s fair game.

I have wondered, but because I am do new to this, I thought it was just me being so new to this. I even suspected they shut everything down at night and went to bed!

WP notifications are pretty good, but they’re not one-hundred percent. You just have to check your posts from time to time. I also recommend not moderating comments, I think that helps. You can always delete stuff later.Make sure you’ve selected when to be notified, too! That’s in the Settings menu under Discussion.

  8. Well, I find that I have the same problem. Only recently I discovered in the Reader that there is an option to view comments I made so that I can see if there are any replies. But I only get about half the notifications I asked for. 😐

  9. I so understand this dilemma!! Being a new blogger, and reading post after post after post of everyone’s stuff…….I feel like commenting, but then realize it is 2014 and that blog was written in 2011! So then I am torn between commenting anyway, or just keeping my thoughts to myself. Yeah…..we know how that usually turns out!!!

Eh. I just deal with the notifications when I get them. I’m not worried about it. I follow one blog that has never sent me an email when the blog updates. I’ve even unfollowed and refollowed the blog, and I still don’t get notifications. Eh. It’s not a perfect system, but it is free, and everything else about it rules. So I deal.
