The Rules

  • Nominate 15-20 blogs and notify all nominees via their social media/blogs
  • Thank and post the link of the blog that nominated you (very important)
  • Share 5 facts about yourself to your readers
  • Pass these rules on to them

Okay, so 5 Things About Me:

1. I have an ongoing dialogue with two of my friends, wherein we send each other photos of our odd socks. We are the kind of people who do not put odd socks in drawers. We are the kind of people for whom socks must be paired, and we like to document the ebb and flow of the odd sock situation. Our hope is that one day, all socks, including those of our children, will be folded into couplehood.

2. I never say coffee is too strong.

3. I love black licorice, and anything that is flavored with anise. I resent that I actually have to say “black licorice,” because if you knew anything about licorice, you’d know it’s redundant. But I hafta say “black licorice” because otherwise people will think I want red licorice, which I do not. I do not understand red licorice and I have a bad relationship with red food coloring. Giving me red licorice will be treated as an act of hostility.

4. I love listening to the medley of crickets, cicadas, birds, and owls, but I also enjoy the dull roar of the interstate as well as frequent trains chugging by and the occasional plane whooshing overhead. I find common city noise quite comforting.

5. I do not feel shocks from static electricity. I only hear them. People hate that about me, although the cats never complain.

Congratulations!! I love your blog because i never know what I’ll find when you scroll through my day, but I always enjoy and digest your creations!

LOL i totally ‘get’ the whole black red licorice thing – dad and I both like ‘licorice’ (as you say, adding black is redundant!)

Thanks for choosing me as a creative 😋 that’s not a compliment I generally apply to myself and you made me smile. The other bloggers you chose are either very familiar or I haven’t been introduced to them so I look forward to some exploration .

    • Oh but see, that’s who I picked! I picked the people whose blogs are varied! Hah! I love that about your blog, too! Like, you just dunno what it’s gonna be about from post to post! 😀
Plus, arts — I love your arts!

I definitely have weighted my ‘follows’ to the eclectic bloggers. Thanks so much for encouraging my artful attempts – it’s weird about age because being a completly beginning artist makes me feel like a kindergartener. Haven’t encountered quite this same sensation with anything else ‘new’ in life.

Congratulations, Joey. Well done, sharing your interesting traits. Have you ever found a coupling for a lone sock at your friends’ place? Now that would make me happy. … Those I know on your nomination list certainly are creative in my consideration, too. I must check out the others.

Congratulations, Joey! This award is very well-deserved and I’m looking forward to visiting your nominees. How did I not know of the Zombie blog? I agree with you about strong coffee and licorice. It’s a little surprising that the red coloring hasn’t been outlawed yet.

Thanks also for the nomination. I am truly honored and delighted. I’ll give it the time and attention it deserves and have it up within a week. Thanks again! 🙂

Yum. I like the taste of anise, too. Almost as much as I like having matched socks. (Where do those sock mates go?…)

Thank you, Joey! I prefer blogs that are varied and keep mine that way on purpose. When I first started I was given the advice over and over to keep a running theme and to have my readers be able to depend on me posting features on particular days. That may work for some, but not for me. So, I’m very happy to be picked for an award because I keep things varied! My brain does not work in a linear fashion always and my life (as I suspect everyone else’s is also) is a mish-mash of experiences. :). I also like city noises and humming of trains, planes and traffic. I think I lll get along just fine in NYC, then! The birds I only like if I’m already up…the chirpy bastards when I’m trying to sleep make me crazy. Perhaps I should post a “quiet time” schedule on their tree! Something tells me it won’t be effective.

Congrats on the blog award! I hope to come back and check out some of the blogs, but for now I am so far behind reading the blogs I already follow I dare NOT right now. heh I love all those noises, too!! By the way, I saw a kitty get static electrified last night. It was from a kennel I had just touched, and I hope I didn’t cause it. Random, I know . . . .

  13. It was a source of extreme culture shock when I moved South to find that grocery stores did not carry anise extract. How on earth was I to make my special Italian Christmas cookies? I began begging friends to please ship me bottles – which they did – and as time went on, and more Yanks moved down here, the occasional store now carries it. And do you like fennel root with its gentle anise flavor? LOVE it roasted with goat cheese! Should I stop now? OK, I will, except to say thank you so much for thinking of me in this category. I’ve been accused of writing a quirky blog, but now I can say no, I have it on good authority that it’s creative. Jolene said so, so it must be true. XXX

    • Actually, in Savannah, we had world market, so a lot of stuff I could get there. I had a friend who’d send me stuff from Connecticut, and ordered thing from Amazon. My big thing was chorizo…why was there no chorizo?!? No one could mail me that! lol
Do I like fennel? Haha! Did I grow it next to the roses? Did I smell it twice as much? LOL
I think quirky is an awesome compliment, and you should, too, because Quirky People are the BEST!

Now, about these special Italian Christmas cookies….Can Italian heathens make them in March? 🙂

      • Yes! I will send you the recipe which I received from a Claralee Faiola in Massachusetts. I tell you the name so you know these are authentically Italian. It makes a ton but they freeze well. And you grew fennel next to the roses? I did too although mine was more ornamental – bronze fennel which was just enormous and beautiful with wonderful yellow seedheads. Yes! Quirky people are the best. Jolene has spoken.

    • I KNOW, RIGHT? I cannot even bear the thought of hunting for matching socks each morning, let alone wearing mismatched socks! Like, not the same material, or thickness? OMG, the horror!!! When our feet are in our mouths, people would see our unmatched socks, Lisa! AAAAAH!
You’re very welcome, of course 🙂

I do have a cupboard filled with black licorice….
I do SO like it – mostly – it is good for keeping my blood pressure up. Did you know this medicinal quality of this favourite favourite?? Amazing stuff.
As far as red goes…. what US that stuff?

    • I know that it’s really good for digestion issues.
      I have low BP too…
I do not know WTF red licorice is. Doesn’t taste like anything to me. Just somethin to gnaw on.

  17. I love red licorice so much (it tastes like sweet berries to me) that I’ll probably be gnawing on some when I finally go on to Glory. Black licorice scares me for some reason. *shrug* But I’m not bothered by folks liking it. To each his own. As long as the world has licorice and licorice lovers, I’m happy! 🙂 Thanks for sharing more about yourself.
