Breaking from my tradition of disturbing people with my heathen tendencies on their holy days…
Okay, just one picture…
…I decided instead to make rude commentary about other bloggers, from a completely secular standpoint.
The blogosphere is weird, y’all.
Since the first of the month, I’ve been perusing the blogs of other A-Z participants. I must have looked at more than fifty new blogs just yesterday.
At least half of them weren’t doing any A-Z stuff. Some of them weren’t even blogs. Some were those ad sites, filled with pop-ups for entries to win free stuff, and sign up here crap. There were others who had a blog like the favorite of all bloggers: “I’m rich and you can be rich, too! Start here to learn this simple four-thousand-step process to getting rich off your blog!” Some were merely links that send you to other sites.
I also found some crazy ass shit. I wandered into Scary Twitter last week. Scary Twitter ain’t got nothin on Scary Blogs. Oh Unholy What!? Insanity. Bizarre, unknowable madness. For those of you who’ve never wandered into Scary Interweb places, count your lucky stars. Scary Interweb is where something is so strange it must be a joke, so you keep reading, waiting for the punchline, or the piece that ties it all together, but it only gets stranger and stranger — not in a poetic, beautiful way, but in the way that frightens you and reminds you that some people are truly tormented by mental illness. As you squirm in your seat, you reconsider whether exorcism might be a valuable tool after all, and how maybe you should never be kind to strangers ever again, in case they think these things you’re reading. *shudders*
A surprising number of bloggers can’t write. I mean, they can’t string together a coupla coherent sentences. With posts full of misspelled words and an incredibly shocking number of subject verb disagreements, I sought to know if they were not native English speakers. Ah-nope! They all were. And of course, usually American.
Those who could write didn’t necessarily say anything, and reminded me of students who try to make two-hundred words out of nothing. That left me in the position of trying to comment about nothing, to let them know I’d come to read, but then, I didn’t want them following me back here, now did I? They might see you can write and follow you back to your blogs, too. No one wants to be Blogger Zero, the person who brought crappy to WordPress.
There’s a fine line between weird and boring.
I did find a handful of great bloggers, and I was sorta like that girl who finally has a good date after ten rotten dates… “OMG I LOVE YOUR BLOG AND YOU’RE SUCH A GOOD WRITER AND LET’S ALWAYS READ ONE ANOTHER FOREVER AND EVER!” (I was usually dating that guy, so I get it.) My enthusiasm for people who can write, and with whom I can make connection is genuinely euphoric.
But you get it, right? Cause that’s why you’re here and that’s why I’m reading you.
Thank you. Sincerely.
I have a lot of trouble finding other blogs that I want to follow and ready repeatedly. Sometimes I’ll catch a post by accident and think “Yeah!” and I’ll click follow…and then a week later I won’t be able to remember why the hell I decided to follow that blog.
As for Scary Interwebz… been there, done that. It’s quite an experience! 🙂

HA. I meant READ not ready. I won’t be too disappointed if you unfollow my blog immediately. LOL

Actually, I would be incredibly disappointed, but I’d understand. Apparently, tonight was not my night to make comments, as my brain no communicating with fingers.

HAHAHA! I will never.
Well…unless you get scary weird on me!

Some days it just doesn’t pay to try to express yourself. Words get confused, brain gets farts, fingers get tangled. I’m going to blame it on the cold I’ve been struggling with for several days…

Aw, that’s too bad. I hope your cold ends soon!
I always know what you mean. You could start commenting like a U cn’t even tyep, and I would still get you 😛

Awww, thanks. 🙂 Ditto back atcha. About the knowing what you mean, not about the cold. Because I hope you don’t have a cold, cuz it sucks.

I had a cold for five days in January. It was only bad on day three. I was just so glad to have a cold, because every time I think I have a cold I end up having something much worse, LOL! It was my first cold in 15 years!

I usually get a cold once a year (maybe 2x in a bad year), and I thought I was lucky for it being that infrequent! LOL

Luckily I haven’t encountered any “Scary Interweb places.” Love the term though!
I never have time to check out new blogs other than when I visit a blog of a new follower. I have so many I follow already that I have to keep new ones to a minimum. Otherwise I could read blog posts all day and still never get through them all!

btw – hope you and the family had a great Easter break.

I totally get that. There are a few blogs I make time to read no matter what when they’ve posted that day, and others I stubble across with a what the ever loving fuck? I feel like those are the same people whose family convinced them that it would be a good idea to try out for American Idol and they end up making straight up fools of themselves. Not everything I post is 100% grammatically correct, even though grammar is important to me…I wanna sound like I talk, not like a text book. Holy moly, though, why do people have blogs if they cannot string together a couple of paragraphs on subjects of their own choosing? Ugh.

I see those kinds of blogs and it just reminds me of my students. While not all of them are poor writers, many of them are and I can only stomach so much of that.

There have been a few I’ve read a couple of sentences and skidaddled on outta there. Now I’m off to write tomorrow’s crapola on my “other” blog… if I can figure out what the hell to write. Hopefully I’ll be back to reply my own poor neglected posts’ comments tomorrow.
I’M SPREAD TOO DAMNED THIN!!
Hope you had a great Easter Sunday. 🙂

So, what you’re trying to tell me is that if I post a picture of myself dressed like a sexy Hobbit, doing sexy things with my Sting sword, that you’ll unfollow me?
Crap. *Runs off to delete photos from scheduled post for tomorrow.*

LOL No! The photo here is not even close to the weirdness I encountered. Besides, I’ve already assumed you do sexy Hobbit things.

Hahaha! No, not yet. Not for lack of trying. The husband just doesn’t find me dressing like Frodo and him dressing like Samwise to be super sexually appealing. He has problems.

Oh I’m glad it’s not just me! I had a look at some of the other bloggers in the A-Z challenge, and most of them were bloody dire! I did try and comment on a few but it is not easy to make something out of nothing, as you so rightly pointed out. I also found one (just one), wonderful blog to follow out of all the dross that I read. The best A-Z posts I have read have been from the bloggers that I already follow!

I must admit, the ones I already follow are MUCH better 😀

Unfortunately, some of the folks who can’t string words together to form sentences appear to have gotten jobs in business where somebody decided to let them work in Marketing. I get so much crap each week – not just spam – but badly written, malformed crap in my inbox.
Thanks for taking these folks to task.

I agree… I often think about surfing and finding new blogs to read and follow and get really disappointed, and when I do find a good blog I indeed act like you 😀 I usually go straight to About me page, that has to grab my attention for some reason, as the posts…
But it is a willing process that has to happen, because we want to post content AND we want to connect. When you have no time or no will… Nothing happens.

I’ve been lucky so far in that I’ve only found one “buy my shit!” blogger and only run across three who signed up but haven’t posted anything. Hopefully my winning streak will continue. Although based on what you’re saying, I’m guessing it’s just a matter of time before I find myself in the third ring of hell. Thanks for the heads up. I think.

I think there are people deleting those who aren’t doing it right from the list, so perhaps I’ll do more visiting next week, when they’ve culled more 🙂

I feel better after reading your post, although I don’t know in which category I am! But I’ve also tried to check other blogs for this A to Z challenge and it’s a real challenge. I don’t want to stray too far from my own interests and you’ve got a point about overall quality. So in a funny way I have pretty much stayed in the company of the same bloggers. I discovered a few new women, though, who like me come from abroad and have raised kids between two languages and cultures. And I also found you! I should have sooner since you and I have at least one common reader. Still, it’s a nice thing. Best to you with the rest of the challenge.

I’ve been following you for a long time. Since well before winter, I think. You won me over a long time ago, without even trying. Not boring, not weird — you’re just right!

If neither boring nor weird, then embarrassed! I’m trying to write fiction while I blog and sometimes it’s just hard to keep up with everything. I hope you’ll forgive me. See you tomorrow, letter F! 😊

I used to work as an editor and copy editor, but I swear I have less patience with people who can spell and write grammatically but have nothing to say than with people who don’t have the mechanics figured out.

Some of the stuff you can stumble upon here is darker than dark and stranger than odd, Joey. Oh, my, click-out. And than I wonder: How did they get to follow me?

I am right with you on this one….I can’t believe some of the blogs I come across on here! It’s so strange….actually makes me scared when I see how woefully inadequate some people’s language skills are!
