If I were in the habit of giving advice about blogging, I’d write a blog about it. I am not in the habit of giving advice about blogging, but as a reader, there is this one thing you could do to encourage me to read your blog:
For the love of puppies, LINK YOUR GRAVATAR TO YOUR BLOG!
Your Gravatar is your profile picture, your avi, the graphic that represents you.
Here’s a photo of your Gravatars and what happens when I hover over my own:
Now and again, I make an effort to check out new visitors to my blog, and so I click the Gravatar photo that appears when people like a post. Sometimes someone likes a comment on another’s blog, and I’ll click their Gravatar and see if I might like them, too. Nine times out of ten, this takes me to a page where I can choose various ways to connect to the person behind the Gravatar.
But! sometimes, this goes nowhere.
When I click my own Gravatar, it opens this page:
Now see, there’s my blog at the bottom.
Too many of you don’t have this set up. I won’t name names, but waffle, planet, guitar — so many more. I click your Gravatar, and I get a larger version of your Gravatar with no website link.
Ah, fair enough. Maybe you don’t have a blog.
But you do. You so totally have a blog and I cannot get there without a link.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thought the blogless were reading me, only to find out much, much later, it’s another blogger.
If I am really speedy about notifications, your blog will appear under your username when you like or comment, but I am not always speedy.
Go to your homepage, copy the browser window and paste it in the website section with your Gravatar. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by your readership. Next time I’m in the checking-out-who-checked-me-out mode, I’ll be able to find you and read you! It will be magical!
You forgive me for taking photos of my laptop instead of screenshots. You expect this sorta willy-nilly stuff from me.
I think I’ll wipe down my laptop screen now, and maybe fill-in my eyebrows, but y’all need to check your Gravatars!
I think I posted about this a couple of years ago too. I think it’s the single most important thing new bloggers should do. I also think they need a unique image to draw interest. That quilt thingie is nice and all, but how about something different than everyone else.

I hope I have mine linked properly…otherwise I’ll look a bit silly “liking” this post, won’t I? 😉

You’re linked 😀

Yes! I’ve mentioned this to a couple of bloggers…requested, even. Thanks for this public service 🙂

This is a very good idea for all of us to remember.

Thank you for that… I’m one of the idiots that never noticed.

PS – I not only fixed it, but added my other WordPress page, and a link to my portfolio. 🙂

I am not sure what you mean. I think I know what a Gravatar is. I have;or had 3 different blogs. I lost interest. I decided to 86 them. I really like your blog. I also think you are a a cutie. Forgive me as I have had a few beers watching the Colts game.

Haha! Thanks, Benson. Your Gravatar photo is linked up to This Ain’t No Bistro twice 🙂

Guess I’ll have to check mine. Sometimes I do actually want some of my drivel read.

Oh golly, I’m not sure I have a gravatar. But thanks for the advice!

You have a Gravatar — I can see you, but no site linked to it. Do you have a blog, Jan?

Yes, yes…a hundred times yes. 😀

Thanks, it looks like I forgot to do that. I hope it’s linked now.

Hehe, good advice. I think I needed about a year to figure this out by myself without being told.

Checked, just in case. I usually just rely on the WordPress profile but I guess I did fill that thing out. It’s good advice, and you gave it well.

Good thing to alert people to. I find this frustrating as well. I want to return a visit when someone new has been kind enough to visit my blog, but when I try to find their site, I can’t. Then I just feel rude. And the Midwestern girl in me doesn’t like feeling like that. 🙂

Am I linked? If not I will fix this.

You are not linked, John. Please edit so all the people can find you 🙂

Okay. I will do this. Thank you.

I have mentioned to a few people individually that I sometimes don’t find a post attached to their gravatar. Like you mentioned then I will head towards their gravatar page and I find their email act or even nothing!
Joey, if any glitches happen on my posts or something as a dear friend, pretty please tell me. I do notice poor su situations for “s” intend of my “a’s” and sometimes bother to say my cell phone morphs. . .
This was a very good “Public Service Announcement,” Joey! xo

Haha yes, some phones are extremely special and make lots of interesting typos. No worries there!
Your blog isn’t attached to your Gravatar, Robin.

Y’all better link up. What comes next is the Mafia version of cutting off your thumbs. 😀 😀

I agree. It gets annoying especially when you really want to connect with someone. Maybe readers who aren’t bloggers should just have Facebook or email on there?

You are so linked, with like five sites. Your Gravatar screams Blogger! 😀 Thanks, Luanne!

I am in aaargh-greement with this post Joey. I’ve pretty much given up visiting blogs via Gravatar. I now scan down comments and find a direct link there to a blog which may interest me 😀 ❤

Guilty as charged.
Sorted. Cheers.

I’ve never had trouble finding WP people who comment on my blog, I just follow the link from the WordPress notification, but Gravatar is useful for Blogger users.

I’ve noticed the same thing about a lot of these gravatar dealies. Of course, now I can check and see if mine is properly linked, and MAYBE it’ll even inspire me to get back to regular entries again. Also trying to remember on who’s blog I found a link to yours, but my CRS is kicking in. Important part is I got here and I like it!

Great advice. a benefit to the blogger who doesn’t have their gravatar linked to their blog and also to the person clicking on the gravatar and finding themselves ending up nowhere.

Phew! I didn’t even know I needed a Gravatar. Now I have one and I think it’s even linked 🙂 (nice to ‘see’ you again BTW)

Well, that turned out to be embarrassingly complicated! I did finally manage to determine that my gravatar does have my blog and FB page links. I did add a little description that wasn’t there before. Thanks for the reminder!

Well good, don’t be embarrassed 🙂 I think it’s awesome you fixed it. We probably all should have taken classes before we began on WP! Hah!
