Last month, Prajakta asked for a picture of the gnocchi. Here’s tonight’s gnocchi, Prajakta!
Gnocchi never look like much, do they? You can’t tell by the photo that they taste like dreamy lil pasta pillows.
I only like to make gnocchi maybe once a year, because it takes hours and I make it makes a huge mess. They do not freeze well. They do not reheat well. It’s all about the fresh. Alone, gnocchi have a delightful texture, but they’re quite bland. I like them with butter sauces. Tonight I tossed them into a very simple sauce of butter, tomatoes I gutted and crushed by hand, and fresh basil leaves. I added salt and some grated mozzarella. Om nom nom!
This is a dish that inspires The Mister to make grunt-y man noises, talkin all “Gurrrrl, Oh yeah, Baby, Mmm, Fat Boy Likey.” But it’s not for everyone, I guess; Moo still doesn’t like it.
Do you like gnocchi? Do you make gnocchi? What sauces do you like on it?
Looooooooooove me some yummy gnocchi. Have attempted to make gluten free gnocchi with the Hub. It was good, but not quite the texture (of dreamy pillowy goodness) that I remember before the GF days. But man, good gnocchi with a butter sauce….I think I could come up with some grunty gurrrrly noises for some of that! 🙂

What did you use to thicken it when you did the GF? I wonder how many choices… Anyway, yeah, gnocchi and butter sauce! 😛

I think we probably used the gluten free flour blend that I use for my GF baking. But I sort of recall in the back of my mind that Hub probably worked it too much and it ended up tough. He’d never made gnocchi before (gf or otherwise), so it was a new experience for us.

I have never been much of a gnocchi fan but that looks super delish and if it makes your man grunt with pleasure, well, I just might need to whip some up….

Love it, but I’d never make it.

Ooh that looks good!
I bought my husband a spaghetti making machine for Christmas one year. I (not he) made fresh pasta with it once and it was amazing.

Thanks so much! It’s lovely to be thought of 🙂 I’m not as interested in making new blog friends as I am in keeping up on those I’ve grown to adore, but thanks again!

Yummy! Love the gnocchi my mother makes but it’s been way too long since I’ve made them myself.

Yum. Creamy garlic and basil sauce for me please.

Dreamy pasta pillow is the best way to sum gnocchi 🙂 I like mine with a hint of garlic… If you are having an lasagna or mexican nights coming up, feel free to click as many pictures as you want and put them up 😀

The garlic is inside my gnocchi, but I’m not sure I could unlike a gnocchi in any sauce! 😛

What a salacious snippet of food porn you have there my dear. I have made lot’s of gnocchi and I think the more popular sauces have been of the red variety. I prefer any kind of butter salt. Be it brown, broken or wined I like em all. I did know an old guy that enjoyed them with a brown gravy. Dark brown roux, like for gumbo and it was pretty good. Of course the general public at the time wasn’t ready for it.

Thanks! I can see the appeal of brown gravy on gnocchi. Sounds good, even at 7am! 🙂 I’d probably still prefer butter sauce.

I know. I am too lazy to start cooking so I’m going to settle on getting some donuts

Love gnocchi, but you are right it is a tremendous pain in the ass to make and doesn’t make any leftovers! That picture is pure food porn!

Aw, thanks! I don’t think it photographed well. Maybe it should take a series of selfies and find its best angle!

Pictures of it taking it’s own selfie or it didn’t happen!

I’ve never had it so I don’t know if I like it. I think I’d like to try it but it sounds like too much work.

It really is a lot of work. Intense prep. Kinda like tamales or pierogie, just a night spent on cookin and cleanin up! Makes ordering it in restaurants so much more yummy! lol
