#Thursday Doors — Old Cafe-Curtained Garage

As I mentioned before, the doors around here are quite dull. They’re almost all versions of the same common insulated exterior door, pretty much like my own dull door.

Like any other large city, Indianapolis is divided into communities or neighborhoods. This morning, I found a nifty map of it.

some of these are actually on a real map, and some of them are just spoken titles, but here they are

some of these are actually on the city map, and some of them are just spoken titles, but here they all are. i kinda want one of these…

I ventured away from my own neighborhood and hit the mother lode in one block of the Old Northside. I now have months of doors. I think this neighborhood could easily yield an entire winter of doors. Thank you, Old Northside, for being interesting, diverse, and beautiful.

Of course, I’m me, so which one do I like best? The old, worn wooden doors that seem out of step with the rest of the neighborhood. And just look at those pavers!

The door was unlocked and cracked just a smidge. I am curious, but I resisted.

Excellent door. There are more than a couple of garages with old doors like that, but I don’t recall seeing many with windows. Such a beauty. How far North did you go?

  2. Joey, I love this, too, and the pavers are great. There’s an area of Naperville with lots of gorgeous doors, a very expensive neighborhood near the library I frequent. I’m going to take my camera and walk around taking door photos one of these days.

Oh yeah, that’s a great one! I hit the mother lode in Nova Scotia last week too – I think I’m good till spring.
Hey now, don’t you go and get yourself arrested for B & E on account of Thursday Doors 😉

  5. Great picture. The old door, the pavers, and the fact that it’s open a crack could be the start of a novel. What’s on the other side???

Cool picture, I used to have a friend (many years ago) that live on the Northside. Next time peek your head in though!

Another great door to inspire a story. It has a look of mystery to it.

Joey, there is something quaint about this old garage door! I like the little bricks even with those sneaky grass, too. 🙂

  9. My in-laws had curtains on their single-car garage and we used the area for family gatherings. I like this door. 🙂

That’s a fabulous door, and I love the latch. It’s so practical and simple and it adds so much to the character of the doors. They are equally worn/rusted. I can see why this was a fav. I’m also very glad that you discovered this part of town. Everyone needs a winter supply of door photos 🙂

I like those cafe curtains — and that someone left their door unlocked!

  14. Good self restraint, I would have felt the pull of temptation to pull on the door.

I agree, Joey, that the door is screaming: You’re invited to take a look inside!

Love that you now have “months of doors.” I’m going to start paying more attention to the doors in my neighborhood- I tend to just walk by, in, and out.
