Using the word weathered almost seems like an insult. This door has seen some shit, hm? Y’all know I love old things, and this door is no exception.
Check out the tiny doorknob, and where it’s placed. Look how narrow.
Instead of me telling you about the door, I find I have a lot of questions about it.
How old is it?
Was it made with glass here and wood there, or were all those cut-outs once glass?
What little dog scratched at the door? Or how many?
When were kickplates invented?
Anyway, I love her. I love the whole house. I’m glad she’s been reclaimed and is on to better days.

Yup, I loves me some old weathered doors and this one has no doubt seen a lot. Thanks for sharing it 🙂

That’s a survivor. I love it. I’m going to guess that this is the way it was made, glass in that one long panel only. that’s just a guess, not based on any secret knowledge. Great find, and great questions.

Love this one, Joey, beaten and bowed but still standing tall. Laughed at the ‘security’ sign in the ground; I doubt this house would be on a robber’s list. Also curious about the signs in the window – are they construction notices? Is that how you figured out the house is being fixed up?

Yeah, I love this door 🙂 (of course!) This house is in a prominent neighborhood, only a few doors away from last week’s find, so yeah, the whole area’s on the robber’s list, and they’re all sporting security signs 🙂 Lots of old beauty, and still some diamonds in the rough. They’re expensive even when they’re trashed and vacant, because of location and hard-to-find original details, so you still see some in need of love. I think this is one of them.
I don’t know about the signs in the windows. I didn’t walk up and look at the time. I wondered if it had to do with the new windows. *adds your question to the list*

Its imperfection makes it perfection. Love the character.

Thanks, Farmgirl, me too 🙂

I think someone got so angry about the tiny, low doorknob and punched a hole through the wood to get in, resulting in the addition of glass to the door.

I LOVE this door. I wish I had the answers to your questions. I’m wondering some of the same things.

Have you been walking on the “seedy” side of Indy? That door looks rough!

LOL! Gah, no, Gary, it’s in a historic location — it’s actually an expensive home.

Great character in that old building. Glad it’s being reclaimed, you’ll have to post a photo of it when the job’s completed.

It looks like it has had its trim painted fairly recently so, yes, it must be on a road to revival. 🙂 Now – how do they get the sofas and the king sized mattresses in? I’m thinking upstairs window and rope.

What this door shouts out to me is: “Character!” Age, weathering and pieces of different mismatched details makes me smile. Joey, it also seems that your word, “Original” definitely applies! 🙂

That door has character aplenty. I see that the person ahead of me said this already, but as I thought it the instant I saw the door and before I read her comment, I shall stick with it. 🙂

This door has seen some “shit”! Love it. It certainly has but it’s all the better for its character 🙂

It is a narrow door but I wonder if the large rectangle and small squares to the right of the rectangle would have been glass or stained glass.

Right? I wonder the same. I’m not sure it’s noticeable, but four of those are small windows, although plain. I wish the door would tell us its story.

Yes, it did not show too well to me. But I suspected they would have been windows. It would be pretty with stained or beveled glass.
