Frozen

You’d think that the word frozen would be a perfectly suitable prompt for the first week of January here in Indiana, but there’s nothing literally frozen outside. Usually by now we’ve had repeated hits of of freezing rain and our street would stay frozen for months.

I like the cold, upwards of 20F/-6C and I love the snow. This winter, if you wanna call it that, has been just plain weird.
I feel cheated.

There’s a fly on my window, for fuck’s sake.

Are my bulbs even gonna freeze?!?

As ever, I’m looking for the silver linings.
I can get out more.
No shoveling.
No treacherous porch steps.
No waddling like a penguin to the kids’ bus stops.

It can’t last forever, right?

Yesterday was 38F/3C. I put on my fleece shirt, a scarf and a hat and walked the dog for well over an hour. It will be a tad colder today and I will do the same.
It’s not often I’ll walk like that in January. Usually 20-30 minutes is all I can take, because usually it’s well below freezing, and if there’s a lot of snow, it’s quite a work out.
This is what it looks like outside.

We’ve had a long mild spell but Monday night’s low is supposed to be 6f – That should freeze the bulbs 🙂

  2. I am still running my air-conditioning, which even by South Carolina standards is not the norm in January. It was nearly 80F here on Christmas day. I am hoping against hope to have some temps in the 40s sometime this month! Sending a wish your way that Mr. Heatmiser takes a hike soon!

  3. I agree with you about the weird winter weather, but the balmy temperatures definitely make farm chores more bearable this time of year. Hopefully you’ll see some snow soon! 🙂

Normally we skate here on the canals or do something else absolutely useless but now! I have to trim the Roses!! Welcome to new reality 😦

Oh I am sure Old Man Winter hasn’t gotten lost. I just think he may have temporary amnesia. Personally I don’t handle the cold the way I used to. I ride the bus downtown when I want to hang out so the walk can be a pain when it is really cold. Of course as long as the sun is shining I can tolerate Winter;regardless of the temperature. Snow doesn’t bug me too much. As it has already been pointed out it is early yet. I bet we have snow before February. Measurable snow.

      I’m sure you’re right. I sure hope you’re right!
It really is terrible at times, walking in the -20, with the wind burning through layers of clothes. Feels so much worse without the sun, agreed! I do not eagerly await any of that!

The cold has finally come to NE Ohio. It’s in the 30s today, and there’s just a light dusting of snow. I prefer the atypical 50 and 60 degree days we were having, but I guess since it IS January, I really shouldn’t complain. But that won’t stop me…

Hey, it’s snowing on your WordPress blog at least.

I had to wear a long sleeve shirt when I went out yesterday. Winter is here! For a minute anyway.

I think old man Winter has retired. I could offer lots of rain though if it would cheer you up 😉

  9. Agreed. Nothing more refreshing than a walk on a cold day. I’m tired of sweating under there.

It’s been the same here in Virginia… unusually warm.. Christmas day it was in the high 60s.. only in the past couple of days has it gone down into the low 40s and today has been in the high 30s, chilly, wisps of snow blowing about, but nothing substantial. I think Old Man Winter has forgotten us too. Cheers!

It will be 11 degrees here tonight, Joey. They said the last time Columbus was 11 it was March, 2015! I do agree, I saw bugs and buds along with a fly. Our grass was green today before it snowed a little, Joey. I sm fine with no snow once Christmas was gone. 🙂

Has been some wacky weather in Indiana. It finally got below freezing down here in the southern part of the state this week.
