In terms of Indianapolis neighborhoods, I’m a fan of Irvington, because of the houses. The old, beautiful houses in historic districts make me swoon, you know how I do.
The doors on the front and both sides of the church are the same, but I frequently drive by this west side set, so those are the ones I captured.
Irvington Presbyterian church is a beautiful building and I love its doors.
If you’re into cornerstones, a photo of this church’s cornerstone (1929) can be found at the bottom of this article.

What part of town is Irvington? Never heard of it, that is a neat looking church!

Washington Street runs right through it. You gotta explore more, Gary 🙂 Think Butler University. Here’s a Wikipedia link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irvington_Historic_District_(Indianapolis,_Indiana)

Gotcha, I know where Butler is :). I haven’t been anywhere in Indy but downtown the last few times I was there!

Sorry but Butler University is farther North.

Yes, you’re right, but it’s GARY, Benson. He lives in New Albany. We mustn’t complicate his internal map, even when he asks questions like that 😉

St. Louis has a lot of neat architecture as well. It’s neat to go into a lot of these century plus old buildings and imagine what they might have been like before slumlords took them over to rent to the urban poor. I got off track there for a minute. Lol. I do enjoy these older buildings though.

I love that Church. Merely the picture gave me Goosebumps. A handhewn stone church with dark hard wood doors and small openings, just ripe for either the dispensing of blessings or crossbow fire. Personally I think you win the # for Today.

HAH! I think you might win the # because of crossbow fire!!! 😀

Those are some seriously handsome doors. They look so strong and they fit that church so well. I can see why you’re a fan.

People with no taste. I think I’d have to expand my doorway.

LOL I wouldn’t actually like it, but I would like an armed guard. heh

Really? I think they’d be awesome. Normal house in every other way, those huge medieval looking doors to the bedroom. Although that might make people think I’ve got like a dungeon in there, so maybe not.

So beautiful. Is that English Gothic style?

Yes, I’d say it’s a good aim to English Gothic, but without much detail. Perhaps the Presbyterians don’t like to overdo embellishment? lol 😉

Hah, that is a good guess!

Gorgeous doors that fit perfectly with the building. The dark oak, ironwork, keyhole windows – it all just works so perfectly. Really nice choice this week Joey.

I like the way the doors stand out from the rest of the stately building.

I like the beautiful stained, wooden doors with metal hinges. The quadrants of stained glass intrigued me since usually churches have some paternal or design in their windows, Joey. I liked the stone and the “keyhole” arches on either side of the door.

Keyhole windows inside the pretty arches were already mentioned, oops! I like to leave original comments, Joey. I go to a Presbyterian Church and it is nice but the building is beautiful and the sanctuary plain. You may be “on to something” with that comment. 🙂

Can’t beat a nice bit of iron work on a good solid wooden door, they’re fabulous.

Oh, GORGEOUS doors! I particularly love those little Arabic doo-dahs on either side. They look like little windows to shoot arrows out of at heretics or something.

Beautiful doors with some serious hardware. It sends a message – enter here and let’s get down to the business of talking to God. Nice. 🙂
