The idea of collection has certain implications. One may have many dust bunnies and it doesn’t mean one collects dust bunnies, now does it? Imagine if you will, a person whose dust bunnies are displayed proudly…
I’ve decided I’m not a collector of anything.
There are certain people to whom you cannot say you’re collecting something or they will gift you related items you do not want.
I cannot deny I often acquire Fiesta(ware) but I only like certain colors.
I have three Norman Rockwell prints and I’d love to have more, but again, specific titles.
There’s no shortage of books, herbal tea, odd socks, or kids’ art at our house, either.
We have a ton of movies and music.
We’re still in possession of all the Legos…but one day Bubba will establish a household.
The Mister must have more blades than any ten-handed goddess of war, but I don’t know if he’s collecting them so much as they just come to him…the way fabric and paper seem to come to me.
Are you a collector? You can tell me.
I’m not a collector of anything either unless you count the fridge magnets I bring home from whatever city I visit. They’re cheap and they take up less room than other souvenirs.

That’s a good one. Fridge magnets are so easily maintained! 🙂

Exactly. No hoarding factor.

I have a pint glass collection from cool places I have been. That’s pretty much it.

I think this is ground we have covered before. I used to collect Nutcrackers, but all the really neat.old ones were liquidated to facilitate Divorce number 1. Now I just have some newer ones sitting around just because. Oh yeah my one 1957 Lionel train, which I just gave to the twins. Since it is only one it’s not really a collection though.

I used to collect mugs from places we’ve been, but Honey kept “accidentally” breaking them, so I kinda gave up on that 😢

I too have enormous collections of things, you know, but as of late Ive gone out of my way to collect candy tins. So far I have 3. One juicy fruit tin, one snickers tin, and one life savers tin 😛

You must show me what candy tins look like, k?

I don’t collect things on purpose, but tend to accumulate things that I like. Right now I seem to have quite a lot of rocks…

Accumulation is really the right word for some things 🙂

I tend to gather stuff. Not to intentionally collect, but then there it is.

I’m the opposite of a collector. If I have to pack it, dust it or display it…not interested. It might have to do with many relocations; I like to purge anything we aren’t using. The exception…books and photographs. They will be the last to go. ☺

Right? I’ve no tolerance for dusting tchotchkes! No no no.

I don’t really collect anything but my husband does. Drives me crazy!

I don’t really collect anything that requires dusting anymore; however, I do have one of those tea collections. I can’t seem to help myself. Every time I go to the grocery store, I come home with another delightful flavor. 😉

I try not to collect many things since my place is downsized. No extra books, I cut my bird collection to about 10. My Lladro figurines are under 10, my Miss Beatrix Potter characters are about 6 or 7. I accidentally have harbored some clothes from my youngest daughter. I am trying to unload these. She donates things I would not ever wear. I like her taste in her dressy clothes, so I say to self, “Someday, I may wear this when I am dating again. . .” 🙂

I’m all in favor of keeping nice dresses, Robin. You really never know. I’ve found that when I shop for the right dress, I come away quite sad, but when I’m just out not looking for a dress, I find ones I love. And then when an occasion arrives, I HAVE THE RIGHT DRESS!
When we moved here, there was considerable downsize, and so I find I’m more purging than ever.

I am definitely a collector but I’ll get into a particular thing and then collect for a while – get it to a reasonable (not large) size and then stop. I love vintage things like toleware trays, majolica, tin picnic baskets, wall pockets and more! I use them to decorate and group things around the house here and there 🙂 I did have a rooster phase that got out of control because people couldn’t stop buying them for me!!

I know a woman who’s collected roosters since I was a child. She’s got a beautiful collection — but I also know that not all of them are…suited to her taste, and as such, she won’t display them.
Majolica is beautiful, I can’t blame you. But those pieces serve purpose as well as the wall pockets.
Thanks for telling me a bit about your personal collections 🙂

Yes, that can be the trouble with collections! I don’t let on to many people unless they figure it out by themselves. Except for my Mom – she’s great at finding wonderful things! I collected most of my majolica when first married and I have mostly inexpensive pieces (I could only afford the ones with chip and hairline cracks!) But they are beautiful nonetheless. I use them decoratively for the most part (plates on a wall, small pitchers on display).

You know, I think hairline cracks and chips are just fine. Every home needs objects of authentic use — for warmth 🙂
I bought my MIL some old scratched Wedgewood (the fruits) and it definitely warms up all the shiny and new in her display.
Imagine if these old things could talk…
I love old things, Deb, don’t mind me 😉

Ah, yes, who doesn’t love a good coffee table book? Mine are all art 🙂 (But I don’t collect them, truly! lol)

I have a giant overflowing cupboard full of books. And well, I have a weakness for perfume bottles despite being allergic to fragrances. I have collected about 80 of those pretty bottles 🙂 Ah… I should start again.

I collect Lord of the Rings figures, old books (which aren’t usually cheap, so it’s not much of a collection), and Willow Tree figures.
The tackiest collection I ever saw was my stepmom’s gnome collection that she had on every shelf and in every corner of the house. My sister and I used to hide them because they were so ugly and did nothing but create clutter and catch dust. She has since stopped collecting gnomes and collects stuff with bees on them and literally has enough crap to have a shitty bee stuff museum. It makes my head hurt.

I’ve collected things on purpose and then inherited collections. Am tired of all the stuff, to be honest. In fact, this is the year I hope to downsize and minimize and revitalize– and any other “ize” I can think of! 😉

When I was little, I was collecting so many things: pins, bubblegum and candy wrappers, postcards, (empty) bottles, cassettes. Later it was everything ever recorded by The Doors. Concert memorabilia (i.e. dirty shirts, drum sticks and guitar picks thrown off stage). Concert footage (and concert attendance) by Pearl Jam. I have never thought of collecting anything artistic or domestic, but I’m still young. (Now I seem to be collecting own photographs. I can’t delete a single one – as if one day they will BE WORTH MILLIONS.)
And I really really love your kids’ art. ❤ ❤ ❤

Oh, I forgot concert ticket stubs that got stolen with the bag they were in, and of course books. I had to buy every Kurt Vonnegut, John Irving and Tom Robbins I saw. And Kundera. And Bukowski. Now I have an e-reader so this habit is less bulky but also less truly existing.

It IS different with our tangible collections, isn’t it? Thanks 🙂

It is, no matter how impractical they are. In a way collecting e-books is like, is like… collecting blog friends. 🙂
