What is your favorite piece of art? (it doesn’t have to be famous)

My favorite piece of art is a complicated topic. Let’s stay with one I own, and it’s that painting that hung in my grandmother’s house:

What made you smile today?

It’s 6:38 am. I think we’re pushing the limits with smiles. I woke up at 5:40 because I was freezing. Found the house was 60, and the furnace wasn’t running. I changed the filter and flipped the lever on the fuse box, and heat is now blowing through the vents. I could almost smile. Almost. I am quite pleased, and may well smile when the thermostat finally reaches warm and all the bones in my hands no longer feel like they’re in a vice. Given our HVAC issues since we moved here, I have grown cynical toward our furnace, which I think is a bit of a diva.

Which place do you recommend as a Must-See? Please state which country, state or providence.

I’ve decided to be original and tell you that in the spring, on a brisk but sunny day, you should take I-70 to West Virginia’s Welcome Center just outside of Wheeling. I recommend you stare out into purple mountain’s majesty and into the valley of yellow daffodils below. I was smitten and overcome by its beauty. And then as a personal favor, take a fabulous photo of it, because mine is meh at best.

Complete this sentence: When I was younger I used to….

Take frequent risks and live without paralyzing fear.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

This last week I am grateful we had that three-day weekend. We watched a lot of movies and had some good talks. This week I just hope everything goes smoothly.

Just Jot it January is brought to you by LindaGHill and Share Your World is a weekly series by Cee, all are welcome to participate.

Reading this made me smile and it’s only 7:00am and no coffee yet 😉

Last night I went to bed feeling grateful to have such an amazingly wonderful wife. Today started out with a slight bump, but you proved again just how amazing you are, and it was before my coffee too.

Nothing worse than a cranky furnace on a cold morning.

UH HUH. And it is a bitter cold morning! I think it’s 4 feels like -8 or whatever. But I am happy to say that the thermostat has reached 67 and it sure feels like a home now!

If I had to narrow it down I would pick Dali’s “Last Supper”. This will be dorky but what made me smile today was I would be able to cook off my third dry cure pig experiment. “Must see place”? That is tough. Looking toward the mountains from Santa Rosa Park in New Mex. At night during a thunder storm. I used to have more girl friends. Sixty degree?! You do realize that some folks consider that balmy.

Sixty degrees inside is NOT balmy! And that’s the ‘newer’ part of the house. It surely wasn’t 60 in the bedrooms! And that kitchen tile! OMAWORD, no, not balmy!
Dali’s Last Supper is an unusual pic — I’d say that suits you!

  5. Thank goodness for the three-day weekend!
I almost made mine a four-day, but it’s too cold to do anything so I came to work. I might need those sick days later anyway.

  6. Good job on that furnace. They can be finicky.

  7. I saw heat contractor trucks all over the place yesterday. Somehow, on the coldest of days and even a holiday….those puppies know how to get our attention. We built our house in 96, and had to replace the whole HVAC last year. Nothing really lasts. sigh….

Oh I’d wanna spit nails! Furnaces used to last decades! Decades! This one is 5-6 years old and obviously it’s here to mock my love of cold weather.
It was the coldest weekend last winter, while we waited for the man to get his parts and repair this furnace. It was not a good weekend! >.<

      • Ouch. We were renting a place with a buried oil tank, no gauge, during the 96-97 blizzards. We emptied the tank 3 times that season, and the trucks couldn’t even get down to us to refill. I boiled a lot of water those days, spent a lot of time in the kitchen, using blankets to block in the warmth from the stove. Like camping !

Ah, yes, like camping. That is very much how it is when the furnace is on hiatus! And during a blizzard? Gah, musta been a great time!
I’m lol’ing a little tho, because that evil tile in the kitchen, you know it’s like ice, lol! Ain’t nobody gonna hang out in our kitchen! lol

I’ve never been to West Virginia, but I’d love to check out your scenic recommendation.

What was your favorite movie you watched this past weekend?

    • joey says:

You really should try to get over there, or at least drive through 🙂
My favorite movie of the weekend was Sleeping with Other People. The Mister and I were affected by it, as it reminded us of us. We got a lil sentimental and wet around the eyes. Be warned though, Carrie, not sure this one’s your cuppa tea, but it’s definitely not one to watch with the teen. Even for us ‘uncensored’ parents, there’s no way we’d let Sassy watch this one 😉

    1) Probably something by Escher or Dali.

    2) Picking a story for my second anthology entry.

    3) Hmm, I’m going with Pooh Bridge, (Sussex, England just because it’s an icon of my childhood.

    4) …I used to take a lot of magic mushrooms.

    5) The fact that we missed out on the snow (and the floods) and finding out what happens in The Wrong Stuff.

The rest area in W. Virginia in Beckley is pretty neat to see also. Love driving through W. Virginia mountains just to take in the scenery. Of course as a rule I try not to stop anywhere in the state!
