Oneness immediately took me to that ancient idea that we are all one, all connected.
I believe this. Unfortunately, I find it’s hard to live with that belief. I mean, it’s hard for me to do my life in accordance with this belief.
Everyone likes to talk about what THEY believe and what THEY think is right or wrong and what THEIR god or THEIR conscience says about life, and every single person is TRYING to live according to those principles. I am no different.
When smashing fruit flies, counting their fatalities with gusto, I do not feel their pain.
When the nurse at the doctor’s office cuts me off, I enter a battle of slower and louder speech, because dammit, I am selfish and needy, and I don’t care how busy she is.
When I listen to politicians, I am certain they’ve come from an altogether different reality.
When I ask, “Is that Tom Brady’s blood?” and then say, “Oh good, I hope it hurts,” I am not living with compassion.
When I’m really close to telling the transportation manager that I hope he gets run over by a bus, I am clearly not feeling as though he is part of me.
When I am yelling at my husband for refusing to be illogical, I doubt he feels as though we are one.
When I immediately notice what makes me different, instead of what makes me same, I am creating separation.
I am aware I am far from a living celebration of Oneness in my life.
It does not stop me from believing and trying.
One can never stop trying. It’s when we stop…that the world should worry that oneness will never be achieved.:-)

This is very true. And it will never be truer than when the ‘top’ 1% get hit on the head. They live in fear of that day, and it will come, because they refuse to be one with us. They have their own rules. It will be ugly, and it will not be televised.

It’s one of the benefits of blogging…you find that we are all so much more alike than different. And no matter what happens to you, it has happened countless times before, and somehow, we all survive. Life experience crosses all races, nationalities, cultures, international borders. That, to me, is a bit of oneness. Nice thoughts and good intentions here, Joey. 💕

That IS a kind of oneness 🙂

I feel more separation than I do oneness too. I’m not so sure it bothers me. But those moments of interconnectedness definitely do a human good.

Are we really one? I am sure we are one physically. The same genes and chromosome are in us all, just different combinations. But I don’t feel a one with everyone. I feel a oneness with the man or woman trying to raise a family on shrinking income with rising prices. I feel the oneness when I look at the beauty Humans have created. I do not feel the oneness with those who slaughter the innocent or intentionally inflict pain. I guess to me there is a oneness with our elements that are inclined to do good. I can’t feel a oneness with those elements inclined toward the opposite.

I didn’t say you needed to agree with my own beliefs, and I certainly understand your position. Hard to identify with the baser behaviors, absolutely.

I am with Benson on this one. It is easy to feel oneness with some people, but not with ones that commit terrible, heinous crimes, especially against children.

Yes a pretty difficult one to deal with.

I like the authenticity of your post.
I always want to be a better person, too. However, others make it difficult at times. But, you’re right. It’s still worth trying.

We can’t all live according to our beliefs all the time. Could you imagine dealing with someone so peaceful? How annoying! 🙂

Great post! I believe all kinds of freaky shit! I totally think that people are connected in the consciousness, or the subconsciousness, or some other level of brain activity that boggles my mind. I have too many experiences of synchronicity to think otherwise.

He’s the quarterback of the New England Patriots 🙂 my family is a bit obsessed with the team (and him) – can you tell?

No, still nothing.
Some sort of sportsball reference, I’m sure, therefore completely anathema to me.

You know, I kind of admire that 🙂 I am quite sure if I didn’t live with two rabid football fans (my husband and son) I might be in your boat. But they have sucked me in!

Gives one pause for some serious introspection, but I don’t necessarily agree that separation is an illusion.
We each make our own journey through life, and we become the sum of our circumstances, environment, fortunes and misfortunes, and most of all, our choices. Each voyage is unique.
The good news is we can always make different choices to get better results.

“Openness” is my word for my goal or to fixate on this year.
I was wishing you could have had this word (not Oneness) as a challenge, Joey. I feel at one with people once in awhile when there are the people in the streets dancing or at a concert listening and rocking together. 🙂

My SO and I have a running ‘joke’ that whenever one of us exhibits something akin to your list, the other one says “remember…higher consciousness.” which usually gets a glowering response (with the occasion of flip of the finger).
On a serious note – we evolved to look at the world in a binary manner. The field mouse isn’t going to be around very long if it believes it and the hawk circling just above it are “one”. Or the traveler tromping over a mountain pass saw the boulder careening down the hillside at him or herself as “one.” 🙂

Excellent. I think it’s important to remember that higher consciousness, but it’s awfully hard to live like that all the time. I can be a little finger-flipping at times, myself. But I do try.
