#ThursdayDoors — Porches and Porticos

Meanwhile, back in the Indianapolis neighborhood of Irvington…

And…

That’s all the closer I could get without trespassing.

I think sometimes a collection of doors gives you a better feel for the community’s personality. I find Irvington charming, warm, and eclectic. What do you think? I think I should collect more Irvington doors!

#ThursdayDoors is part of an inspired post series run by Norm Frampton. To view other interesting doors, click the link and see what others are posting today.

This is a great collection of doors. I love the wooden screen door in the first photo. I also really like arched entrances, so this group is extra good.

I think you’re onto something; what you’ve shown us so far has been truly wonderful. I really love the stonework in that last one and the arches in the first few. Yes, keep giving us the grand tour of the ‘hood 🙂

Me too! I can’t show it in a photo, but the home sits on the curved edge of a circle and it’s just charming as all get out — the home, the lot — even in the winter with the empty landscape 🙂

What a beautiful collection. I think the rock porch is the best. Talk about a place for archers. Irvington has some nice places for lunch as well. I know walking makes me hungry.

  6. Irvington really has some beautiful and interesting architecture. There appears to be an arched door theme–lovely.

Storybook Style entrances! Especially that last one! ~poing poing~ I would have to buy a van so I could sleep in the street, pop corn, and just sit and stare kinda creepily at those houses. Beautiful collection!

I love the stone entryway on that bottom one. Very medieval-ish.

I like these doors. Some are so open, while others are solid & imposing. Rather like the people who live behind the doors, I suppose.

I love the stone doors! I know what you mean about trespassing. I’m sure my neighbors are wondering about me.

Some pretty impressive doors there Joey. One thing that struck me is that two of them were flying the American flag. Over here it is pretty rare for people to fly either the Union Jack or the George Cross flag.

We are rather patriotic here. Foreigners always seem to comment on how we fly the flag everywhere, so you’re astute in noticing. Foreigners are often put off by it, as if we’re lost or think they’ll forget for a minute where they are.
And actually, of these photos, three other houses are flying American flags (Old Glory) in their yards on a pole and another one has one on a pole on the garage. (That’s where ours is as well.)
The Mister read awhile back that Indianapolis has the second most patriotic monuments and attributions; the first is Washington DC. So yes, we are a proud American city 🙂

  13. I love the older homes because they have great character. Today, you just drive through the subdivisions with everything looking alike except one is white and one is tan. 🙂

  14. It’s a beautiful collection of doors this week. That last one reminds me of a lodge. It’s rustic, but grand!

We live around too many houses that look the same. The doors look the same as well. I love the stone one!

Where is Irvington? We lived in Indy in the 1950’s (east side, Washington and Ridgeview), so I’m always curious..

That’s super cool, John! You lived in Pleasant Run, so Irvington is only about 10 blocks west of your old place 🙂
Which, by the by, is very close to where my paternal family also lived from 1940 somethin to 1960 somethin 🙂
