What are you a “natural” at doing?
Reading people, spaces, energy
Would you prefer a one floor house or multiple levels?
I don’t think it matters as much to me as it does to other people. I can honestly say I’ve enjoyed benefits of both, but I quickly realized my single-level house is perfect because it does what two-story houses should do, which is divide public and private spaces and reduce noise one from the other.
It would have been a relief to live in a one-level instead of carrying the people up and down the stairs all the time. Sassy began to walk the day before Moo was born. (I think she did that for my mother.) Pregnancy was even less fun while carrying Giantesse Sassy up skinny wooden steps.
We sought a single level home because of The Mister’s knees, but it works nicely for me, too, especially with laundry.
What was your favorite subject in school?
You’d think I’d say English or lit, but no, in elementary school I loved art, in high school I loved genetics, and in college I loved anthropology. I was so enthralled with anthropology I did all the extra credit for fun and finished each semester with over 100% and whatnot and the department tried to recruit me and I briefly considered it, but you know where anthropologists go? Where it’s HOT. Ewww!
Complete this sentence: If only the rain..
Were rainier?
I love rain. I love cool, gray, rainy days more than other days.
What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?
This last week I loved Friday best. The Mister took me out to breakfast, then to the library. We had salad for dinner, which you know is extremely taxing for a cook, what with all the transferring of vegetables from bags to bowls and all that. Mostly we watched House of Cards like sloth beasts until the wee hours and then we went to bed in a rather come hither way. This whole long weekend has been awesome in a high-pitched way. I am always grateful for long weekends.
This week there’s nothing special planned but I’m sure special things will happen anyway.
Cee’s Share Your World is a weekly feature and all are welcome to play along.
What’s happening in your world?
A single-story place will be something the hubs and I look at after we downsize when the kids are out of the house. Oh jeez, did I really just write that sentence? Makes me sound so old.

We’re not old yet, are we? We already did it. It’s maybe a wee bit crowded (or cozy) with two still in the nest, but it will be perfect when we’re merely a couple.
It’s practical. Maybe old people have the pleasure of being practical? 😛

Yes, that’s a definite perk.

I got a kick out of the way you talked about making salad. Sometimes, “I’ll just have a salad” means a lot of work for the cook.

Haha, well yeah, the FIRST salad is, because washing and tearing and chopping and peeling, but the salads that come after are easy peasy! 😛

I actually enjoyed reading your reply to Dan because I was wondering what the bag meant – sorta knew – but now get it!

I hope your family appreciates your sense of humor. If not, always remember your blogging friends do for sure. The next salad I make I’ll be chuckling and my husband will think I’ve gone over the edge. 🙂 Not much going on here except trying to keep warm, doing some quilting and planning for gardening season.

And thanks, Judy!

In some ways, I would like a one-level house because of my knees too.
I was impressed with the interesting subjects you took at school and college. I would rather have liked to have had anthropology too.

I LOVE anthropology! I majored in Cultural Anthropology in university. Too bad I didn’t complete my degree. Silly bipolar, I changed my mind a lot. Love this post x

What I shame you didn’t get to finish your degree. Bipolar has a lot to answer for!

Hehe, yes it does, you’re right!! I was cycling too quickly between depression and hypomania (where I would get my “big” ideas, like quit school and go travel India for 6 months, which I didn’t end up doing). That’s why it’s so important that people get diagnosed and treated (with medication) early in life, not in their thirties, like me, so that there’s more of a chance of being stable enough to finish school and work full time etc…

I have learned so much from you. Too bad about missing India. Someday, hm?

You made my day Miss Joey. 9/11 screwed it up for me actually, my family begged me not to go (trip was booked for Oct) and I actually listened. However, in 2004 while teaching English in China I made it to India for 2 weeks. So, it’s not 6 months, but it was enough 😉

Splendid! 🙂

It saddens me that so many people lose out on important things in their lives because they have not been properly diagnosed and treated.

Mixed feelings on the one level house. Where I live, they sell fast. Lots of aging baby boomers that don’t want the stairs any longer. It makes sense. Then I read where older folks who have 2 stories tend to live longer…by up to 2 years, than those without. Must be the simple exercise, or the very complex exercise, when you talk about vacuuming those puppies. Yikes. ☺

True story! If you include vacuuming, our last house was quite a workout in the step department! Two landings! *pant pant* 😛

I recently made a really “healthy dish” that took so long to make I felt like I’d gotten my exercise just making it. Doubly healthy, right? I enjoyed reading your post.

We lived in a ranch-style home when we were younger, and I liked it. In fact, when we moved into a house with 2 stories and a basement, my thigh muscles were not happy about going up and down steps. Of course, would I move into a ranch-style home again? Heck yes, I’m lazy like a sloth.

I usually think the two-story homes have better curb appeal, but I can’t deny the convenience of the one-story!

I liked my ranch house yet we made a great family room downstairs with oak paneling, a gas fireplace and two more bedrooms. It would have been great as we got older with laundry already close to kitchen. Fun and interesting educational interests. I found the anthropology being the most surprising fact I learned today. 🙂

I enjoyed reading your answers. The top two we have in common, but this one “If only the rain…” I would complete with “would always come with thunder and lightening.”

p.s. Did you know there’s a word for the smell of the earth after the rain? It’s petrichor! Isn’t that great?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I did, and yes, it is 🙂
Did you know the petrichor varies by place? When we first moved back from Georgia, my kids were astonished by the smell here. My littlest one said, “Now I understand why you love it here. That smells perfect.”
Mmmmmhmmmm 😛

It is a shame there weren’t ancient cultures buried under the polar ice caps. You would really enjoy that excavation!

My oldest is a Pluviophile. I like rain but in small doses. For some reason I have read about sloths or have seen photos, or have seen them on tv. What is it with sloths lately? Thanks for sharing your world.

I think it’s the internet, bringing animals to us all the time. Sloths, baby woodland creatures are very popular lately — possum, skunk, badgers…pandas, birds, owls, elephants, and of course, cats and dogs. I’m hoping someone turns up with a unicorn soon 😉

Pluviophile sounds like me as long as I am not getting wet 🙂 I don’t understand when you say spaces… Are you good at getting the sense of physical environment or good at giving people spaces?

I mean reading the physical environment, the vibe. 🙂

I know, right? If I write sweet, non-bitchy blogs too often, people might forget I’m bitchy and then I could run the risk of shocking people who find out it’s not a Nice Lady Blog 😉
