I love all the sweet little cottage-style homes. The one-and-a-half stories, with overhangs or uncovered porches, the leaded glass, stained glass, dormers, gables, all their angles and curves…I am such a sucker for peaks and arches, for ornamental, original details.
This week I captured three cottage style homes with unique doors.
That brick! I love that door so very much, but I don’t think I could bear the lack of privacy.
Stucco in Indy always seems weird to me, but this yellow one with its cheery aqua trim stands out in a good way. Check out that mailbox! In the summer, this house has a proper cottage garden that makes me swoon!
This one’s a bit darker as it sits on a more wooded lot. The home is predominately brick. The stone facing and the light blue screen trim lighten it up. I’m certain it’s the coziest inside.

I like the stucco cottage. I like how the doorway is set back in an interesting entrance and I like the shape of the doorway and (at least) the storm door. I also like the cross-buck shutters. At first, I thought they don’t go with the home, but the more I look at them, the more I think they add to the old world charm. Nice collection today.

I’m partial to the stucco. It was on my family’s house. The original stucco was a very pale orange…imagine the fun in saying..”just look for the orange house…can’t miss it.” ☺

Oh indeed! Orange is so rarely done well, but when it is, I always think it’s striking.
I get to say the same sorta thing, “The only yellow house.” I do like that. 🙂

The stucco one is my favorite. I can’t tell if there’s a screen door and then an interior door, but the way the frames line up is interesting.

I think that brick would make me dizzy after a while. You may feel less private but think of all the light you would get. I like the recessed door on your stucco cottage. It reminds me of film noire,where the fugitive is always hiding in doorways. Or the stalker. I like the stucco houses around. Especially the ones with tile roofs. Look so Med,or Latin. Nice collection.

I’m like you … structures with peaks, arches … and turrets!!
I liked all three doors – but especially the 2nd one. Maybe it’s because it’s recessed with a little alcove doorway.

I’m not a fan of stucco but I LOVE the brickwork on that first one. And the shape of the window in the doors is kinda unique too.
I think they shortchanged themselves on that last one. Great stonework like that calls for one big solid dark wood door, but maybe that’s just me. Nice post Joey 🙂

You may be right. When you look at the last house, in person, its dark brick does that thing where it makes the house seem to disappear. Recede? Is that the word? You really don’t notice the house EXCEPT for what I show you — those light bits at the entry.
Heh, maybe otherwise people couldn’t find the door?!?

I like the red brick at the top. But I think the context, the setting around them matters.

I like the blue door and the red brick of the first cottage, but I may change my mind when I see the Stucco cottage with its garden in bloom. 🙂

The cottages are all so pretty and look like pleasant places to live in. Joey, I like stucco because it reminds me of European small cottages in Italy or Spain. Don’t English Tudor homes start with stucco, too. I am looking forward to Spring when flower gardens bloom, landscaping and green grass will encourage my taking pics of houses with doors. 🙂

They’re all so charming and I usually prefer bare stone buildings but that little white house is my favourite. I think it was the shutters that did it for me.

The third cottage with it’s stone appeals to me the most. And I think your description of it sitting on a wooded lot makes it all the better. Nice post!

This house is twice as charming in summer — I’ll return and get photos of the garden and you’ll agree with me, this one is special and its stucco should be excused, even, embraced!
