Today I’m doin a lil groovy music tag thingy from Stephellaneous Stephanie cause I’m so blog-lazy.
- List the first 10 songs that come on shuffle
- Write your favorite lyric (or verse) from each song.
- Tag/link to other bloggers
I’m … modifying. You’re tagged if you like.
The Forgotten People — Theivery Corporation
Um, there are no words. You just hafta shake it. Maybe that’s not a good one.
A Sorta Fairytale — Tori Amos
“Lookin for some Indian blood, Find a little in you, Find a little in me
We may be on this road but we’re just impostors in this country”
Paul Revere — Beastie Boys
“I did it like this, I did it like that, I did with the wiffle ball bat, sooooo — ” Yes, I am still 13. I am 12 when I listen to Pink Floyd and I am 5 when I do the hustle. Your numbers may vary.
Mary Jane’s Last Dance — Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
“Oh my my, Oh Hell yes, Honey put on that party dress
Buy me a drink, sing me a song, take me as I come cause I can’t stay long”
It may be a rule that if you’re a girl from Indiana, you are required to love this song, and in the wee hours, you may still question why you didn’t grow up tall on them Indiana nights…
Always Alright — Alabama Shakes
“Pass me the whiskey, pass me the gin, pass me whatever there’s drank left in”
River Lea — Adele
Haha, that’s not available yet. You can listen to its intro ad nauseam or read the lyrics, but I guess otherwise, y’all hafta wait. Sorry. Not a good one.
Dragula — Rob Zombie
“Knuckle crack the bone, twenty-one to win” but you know you gotta “Dig through the ditches and burn through the witches” too
The Hills — The Weeknd
I really need to get this cd. Every time I ask the girls “What is that? I like it,” they say, “The Weeknd.”
“I only love it when you touch me, not feel me
When I’m fucked up, that’s the real me
When I’m fucked up, that’s the real me, yeah”
Downtown — Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (feat. Eric Nally, Mellie Mel, Kool Moe Dee & Grandmaster Caz)
I like to bellow out Eric Nally’s downtown part, personally, but “1988 Mariah Carey hair, errrywhere, Mom jeans on her derriere” is also good
Talula — Tori Amos
Sassy and I usually rock out to this on our own, because the others don’t seem to enjoy it. Strangely, this is a song I loved even more than carrots while I carried Sassy. I don’t know if Sassy knows that…
“I got Big Bird on a fishing line
With a bit of a shout a bit of shout a bit of an angry snout
He’s my favourite hooker of the whole bunch
And I know about his only bride
And how the Russians died on the ice
I got my rape hat on Honey but I always could accessorize
And I never cared too much for the money
I know right now, Honey, that it’s in God’s hands
Oh but I don’t know who the father is”
Hypnotize — The Notorious B.I.G.
I’m sorry, does your family not sing the whole thing in the minivan like you’re the official white emissaries of Biggie? Neither does The Mister. “That Brooklyn bullshit, we on it”
Copperhead Road — Steve Earle
Ditto this. Epic tales of apples not fallin far from the tree don’t get any better than this. And um, there are bagpipes, k? There is no part of this that doesn’t sound like home.
“Now Daddy ran the whiskey in a big black Dodge
Bought it at an auction at the Mason’s Lodge
Johnson County Sheriff painted on the side”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvaEJzoaYZk
You must understand, I buy the music, so I buy what I like, but what mostly gets played is a sorta democratic process, and this would be our “Most Frequently Played” list on my phone, because I am the DJ. I take requests.
Request your favorite song and I’ll let you know if I own it.
“Told you once about your friends and neighbours
They were always seeking but they’ll never find it
It’s alright, yes it’s alright”
~”Its Alright” Black Sabbath

Oh. Well. How about “Against the Law ” by Sally Ford and The Sound Outside? Or anything by Bootsie Collins? Better?

Bootsy not so much. Not really into the funk thang. But this version here, of the Sallie Ford peeps, this is good. Even if the intro is so “People are Strange.” lol

Oh I like the whole funkadelic thing. You are right about the intro but then it takes a decidedly sultry turn. Two or three summers ago she was in town at the Blue Bunny in Fountain Square. Stayed up way past my bedtime for that. This song is just plain sexy. Her whole performance was stellar. Made me feel 45 again.

Blue Bunny??!! What the F is wrong with me? The White Rabbit Cabaret on Prospect.

Mary Janes Last Dance might be the only one I recognize. I think we’re s little out of sync in a music/time sorts way. But I’m glad there’s at least a little overlap 🙂

I’m sure in 3000 songs we have more overlap, but I’m happy for the one.

I think I know better than to request a Hanson song. How about Bruno Mars?

Yes kinda. I got Uptown Funk, featuring Bruno Mars lol 😛
THANK YOU FOR PLAYING! 😀

I am not sure that I have a true favorite. I either love it, come to love it, or hate it. I love music in all its forms because it can move me.

Gotta love a bit of Steve Earle and I’m a big fan of Thievery Corporation too.

I had a Macklemore party for my daughters b-day. The theme was to wear something you got for 99 cents at the thrift store, best party ever.

Thank you for this intimate and revealing insight into your dj-ing. I promise I listened to all of these till the end. I even found Adele covered (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRtk5ZQzW1s) I’m not operating on random these days, but the last time I did there was bound to be some Smiths, House of Pain, Caparezza, Paolo Nutini, Billie Holiday and soundtracks, love those… Tango Lesson, Tarantino films, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels… If I had to choose ONE FAVOURITE SONG, pffff. Ok, this, because I kill it on the mic:
I wish all bloggers I follow would do one of these! As for your choices: I always respected Ms Amos (and her hooves footwear). knew Paul’s Boutique almost by heart (when I was 25 or something), follow Mr. Zombie on fb, like Mr. Petty considerably, and the rest were the first for me (ok, Biggie I know because of History of Rap by Timberlake & Fallon). Hurrah to you for doing it.

Thank you so much for your thorough commentary! I’m so delighted! I’m glad we have so much in common, and I looooove that you have such a diversity in genres in your own playlists! Caparezza is unknown to me, I gotta check that out.
I don’t know what kinda woman, or American, or music lover I’d be without some Janis, so thank you, yes!
I saw that cover on River Lea, but um, no. lol
THANK YOU FOR PLAYING! 😀

Yes, please and thank you! That’s a good song, but my Italian isn’t THAT good and doesn’t work THAT fast! lol He sounds a lot like Eminem! You can bet I’ll be listening to more of his stuff! Thanks!

Yeah, Mary Jane was one of my favorites growing up and now I am bopping around with that song in my head.

No song from you?

Oh, I didn’t realize I was supposed to add a song. I must have been dreaming of my party dress!
I just reread your post, Billy Joel – Goodbye Saigon. If you don’t have it you are going to have to get it. I don’t have music on my phone. My youngest human is sometimes my dj in the car, but I usually just listen to the radio and occasionally the songs on my computer, but I don’t always remember how to find them. 🙂

YES, I love that song! What a patriotic choice! I love it, but it does always make me cry. Excellent choice! 🙂
