Who was your best friend in elementary school?
We’ll call her Kiwi. We met in the second grade. I moved so much as a child, she was one of my few constants. We go long periods of time without contact, but we did get together for dinner a few months ago. We always tell one another we’re “exactly the same” which is impossible and also, true.
What things could people do for you on a really bad day that would really help you?
Listen to me, make me laugh.
If you could make a 15 second speech to the entire world, what would you say?
If I could say all that I need to say in 15 seconds, I wouldn’t be a writer.
Would you rather be an amazing dancer or an amazing singer?
Neither. I do both well enough, can I choose to be an amazing musician instead?
Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?
Last week had me grasping at gratitude and trying to hold on to all the good stuff with both hands. The refuge that I take in my husband’s arms at night. Cool, rainy days. Turning the pages of a great book. Good music. Bunnies in the yard. The last of the tulips. Joy in the enthusiasm of my children and the accomplishments of my friends. Overcoming anxiety moment to moment.
I’m happy to say that this week looks remarkably blank on the calendar. With that comes a little prayer of Please Let It Be So and then in expectation of disaster, a bit of “It is Well with My Soul” — but only the first verse, cause you know, heathen pagan Unitarian.

Lol at “only the first verse” thing. God I hated when we had to do all 6 verses of some lame ass song.
Laughter can definitely be the best medicine at times. My husband is great at making me laugh so I don’t stay mad at him over something.

Fantastic post ! Got to love a friend like Kiwi. Those kinds of friends are worth their weight in friendship gold! I think i’d only have one thing to say to the world, it wouldn’t even take 15 seconds. “Stop being assholes to each other.”

What is going on in my world is that every once in a while WordPress thinks it is Homeland Security and decides that I need to log in in order to reply to anything published on one of their hosted sites. Which means I must enter a “security” code I receive via text in addition to providing my user name a password. A complete pain in the bumper. That being said,I had no friends in grade school. It is very cool that you are still in touch with one of your pals,after all these years. I think you should laugh more. You have a nice laugh. I hope your gratitude list grows more this week

Nicely expressed in words and the picture looked like Joy itself. I love skies and also branches of trees. . . I do believe in keeping friends. I sent a Happy Mother’s Day card to several mothers along iwth a great friend who is like a sister to me, there for me, knows all my “dirty little secrets.” Joey, I love that you still have Kiwi in your life. Your words about if I could say something in 15 seconds. . . “Perfect!” or “Priceless!”

I have one or two friends like Kiwi, though I haven’t seen them in person in years. They’re precious to me, and yes…somehow they’re still the same. We’re middle aged, graying, with kids that make us crazy, but when we talk they’re the same people I’ve always known. Weird.
