#ThursdayDoors — Millersville Masonic

Yesterday, it was sunny and warm and the skies were bright blue with puffy white clouds, which cheered me quite a bit AFTER A MONTH OF RAIN.

Behold, Mr. Blue Sky…

Mr Blue Sky, please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long, sooo long
Where did we go wrong?

Anyway, Millersville Masonic Lodge appears to have been established in 1852, although I can’t swear to it, having not witnessed it myself. You’ll note TEMPLE is there on the facade, but online, it’s called a lodge. It has a lengthy historical record, but the tidbit I truly gleaned from this was:

To this day, 150 years later, no one at Millersville Lodge has been able to learn conclusively whether “Millersville” was named for Winpenny’s and other mills in the area, or as a variation possibly on “Millardsville”. It is known that William J. Millard Sr., the father of the Lodge’s first Worshipful Master, was named the village postmaster in 1844. Prior to 1838, the area was known as Brubaker’s Mill.

That’s neat for us locals.

The doors are tall. They’re raw wood. I have no idea how long they’ve been like that, or whether anyone plans to stain them or whatnot, but the building is fine enough that the doors look mighty as you drive by. No walking in this area. Too busy, no sidewalks, even the ducks fly here.

Check out those reflections…Mr Blue Sky

I liked the stream of blue light. If you’re familiar with Masonic tradition, you can appreciate its significance. If not, you can look that up.

Nifty doors on a lovely building, captured on a pretty day.

Doors kinda look like theyve been replaced, but not finished. Nice contrast though. And YAY for clear skies!

Right? I really wonder if these are the beginning or the temps, or if they’re just going to leave them like that…
YAY for Mr Blue Sky! Looks like another fine day today 😀

Blue skies make any door look better! I wonder if those doors are temporary until the real ones are decided upon, paid for, & created. Seems like that building deserves something swankier than raw wood.

ELO and Masons. Quite the pair. You would think that members of the Illuminati could afford to have stained doors. Maybe they wanted the rustic small town feel. Nice brick work and interesting bit of local lore.

Enjoyed the ELO song, we’ve had too much blue sky, hot-dry, drought. However today it’s raining, which is most welcome!

  6. Finally, blue skies and that bright fire ball in the sky. 🌞 I’m feeling it. Love the doors, and ELO is a bonus. Time to go dust the sunglasses. ☺

I’m not, but I don’t remember it…might have been living elsewhere at the time…Maybe as a shepherd in some cool green hilly place… 😉

  10. It does seem strange for them to be raw wood. Yay for blue skies! I’m supposed to see some briefly on Sunday.

Maybe those are temporary doors while the good ones are being restored??? Let’s hope. It’s a very interesting building. I’m glad you finally had some clear skies to get out in. I’m always amazed by the difference between “Established” and “This building was build in” when it comes to buildings like this and churches. One church here uses the date the congregation was “established” in England. The fine print talks about the date they built the building here, which then burned and was replaced by the building I’m looking at.

  12. Very interesting. Wonderful, historic building surrounded by that gorgeous blue sky, and those simple doors. I’m wondering if they were broken into at some point and then put up the slabs of wood along with the lock and no handle – go away. 🙂

Hah! I don’t know, I hadn’t thought that. The area it’s in isn’t a good one for stealing. It’s a small section, busy at all hours, many stoplights…but you know, people are ruthless, so you could be onto somethin there.
Perhaps one day there will be new doors and then we’ll know.

  13. II always love to see Mr Blue Sky! Those doors are really odd, though, as they do look as though they could do with a lick of paint! 🙂

  18. How disappointing to have such nothing doors leading into a stately building! There should be something grander. But blue sky trumps all else. We had a lovely day here as well and it was so welcome.

  19. Aren’t the Freemasons that secret society that claim several Founding Fathers and Presidents as members? I think the odd doors to a building housing a secret organization adds to the mystique; but who cares, you’ve got blue skies and diverted everyone’s attention upwards with the song. Your blog did its job to get the bloggers talking bout the doors 🙂

  21. LOL, that ELO song is perfect right now, isn’t it? It has been gloomy for SO long, it seems. It’s rainy and dreary here again today. Usually we’re in the heart of summer by now, but chilly weather has stuck around longer than usual. My heat just kicked on (it’s set to come on when it drops below 67 degrees in here) and it’s now LATE MAY! So weird!

Evidently Mr. Blue Sky got pissed off at us again because it’s freaking raining again here today! It’s like we live in Seattle without the cool views and great seafood!

those doors are raw- hm?? and never heard that ELO song before – nice touch Joey.
last comment – I find it interesting the year established is so large – but glad the address is – because it sure is a pet peeve to see buildings with numbers that are hidden…. and here they made sure to have the year established and address stand out.

I’m happy to hear you did get a break from the rain–hope it wasn’t too hot for you 😉
The doors kind of detract from the beauty of the architecture. I hope they change them to match.

The blue sky and better weather has been a welcome change here too. I’m curious to see what becomes of those doors. It could be a stripping/refinishing job, but they just look a little too plain. I’m guessing they may be temps – while waiting for the real fancy-pants custom doors to be delivered. Once can hope right?
