The end of the school year was like a boil on my nerves.
I’m relieved it’s over now. Specifically, I’m relieved that I no longer have a child in elementary school. No more dealing with that bus crap. You may have no idea what bus crap I’m talking about, but the third year, this last year, turned out to be the worst of it. It was crappy enough that I drove that kid to school pretty much the entire second semester. This involved daily repetition of the shortest, most perilous journey I’ve ever made. It is only by the grace of God that I have lived to write this. Surely angels hover at the end of the interstate ramp.
Also, two full months without an alarm clock started today. I wake up to my tree and my pets — and absolutely no imposed schedule. That is the dream. For two months, I live the dream. I will be well-rested and in turn, happier, healthier, and more productive.
For two months, there will be no inundation of papers asking for permission, volunteers, money, or supplies.
No book bags, lunch boxes, posterboard, or goody bags.
For two months, I will not receive automated phone calls. Not about the bus, not about running, not about art, not about book club, not about dance, not about orchestra, and none of those slowly-spoken eight-point bulletins that make me want to throw my phone across the room.
Ah.
I feel very sunshine, rainbow, unicorn sparkles right now.

Have a wonderfully relaxing two months, but watch out for unicorn horns…they can be dangerous.

Oh how I hated that yellow bus. Now after your two month vacation you get to look forward to, gym clothes, color pencils for science class and a paper back book for that 20 minute of silent reading. Put some money away for that year book, dances, spirit week outfits, sports, vending machines on campus and that history trip during Spring break. There is more but, that is all a surprise you get as the back pack hits the wall and the shoes fly in the air…oh how I miss those days.

LOL! Right? I already paid for some of next year’s activities. Books are never an issue, thank tacos! School supplies are THE SUCK! Gah! I’ve already ranted about that bullshit.
In six years these people can go to college and fuss over their own supplies, lol!
Two down, two to go! Hahaha!

The hardest part is the new friends they want to bring home, with every new friend comes that mom that want to talk or that weekend dad that has that cool car. The things you will learn…good luck. I hope you make a day on your blog for your new adventure..hahaha.
College finds your heart and you want to pay..I don’t know why.

Enjoy the summer rest period. I look forward to driving without the school buses on the highway. They go 50, regardless of the fact that the limit is 65 and drivers are trying to go 80.

Yay. People always think of Summer vacation as a time off for the kids and possibly they may consider the teachers. People should be aware that the parents;especially the Mom are run ragged with school stuff too. Enjoy Kid.

I love this, because I feel the same about school and all the needless drama it imposes. Have a great rest. Hope your kids and yourself chill big time.

Oh you brought back so many memories, Joey. Yes, these two months are the most glorious of the year. I wish you and your family a joyful and healthy summer.
I am sorry for my sporadic visits. Just sent my new Young Adult novel for consideration, which took most of my time. Hopefully I’ll also have a little bit more time. Meanwhile enjoy this first weekend of your well-deserved summer break.

Praise Jesus, yes, no more of “it’s that damn school again” griping. At first I thought it was cool they called to remind of us stuff, but between calls, voice mails, and text messages for the same stuff over and over, that shit got old.

LOL I love that you mentioned relief at not getting phone calls. As soon as my youngest graduated high school I immediately cancelled the landline. School was the only calls we ever got on it anymore and we hated the almost daily voicemails with updates on things we didn’t care about.

I’m sorry you get it 😉
We used to be subjected to a worse one, nearly every night, and I remember being freakin delighted that my kids switched schools!
