Do y’all #thursdaydoors fans ever feel like you’re part of an obscure little cult?
There are books, posters, magazines, blogs, Pinterest boards, and Instagram hashtags — all dedicated to the appreciation of doors…
…but people don’t get it.
Every Thursday, I upload my #thursdaydoors photo on Instagram and share it to Facebook. Some time ago, I explained #thursdaydoors on Facebook, hoping to get my known door lovers to participate, but that didn’t happen. I guess not all door enthusiasts are ready to come out of the closet.
Some of my friends reliably like my #thursdaydoors shares. Others are noticeable door snobs. You can hear me bitchin about them on Thursday nights, “Buncha fuckin door snobs!” People don’t care about history, journey, story, or craftsmanship, they just want you to show them pretty things.
Some of my friends are so supportive, they send me photos of doors and tell me where they saw great doors. Those people are the best, because they’re like, “We don’t really know what you’re doing, or why you’re doing it, but we love and support you. You little weirdo.”
My own family barely understands #thursdaydoors. Now and then The Mister will point and say, “Look at that one, Baby,” but when I ask him to stop so I can photograph it, he acts like I’ve asked him for a fifth child. Sometimes Moo will get excited about a long walk for doors, but then sometimes she’ll say we have enough doors. Sassy doesn’t like doors; doors are found outside in nature, ew.
The very mention of the word doorscursion makes them groan.
#thursdaydoors gets me out of bed early. It’s true. I hate mornings, but I’ll get up extra early on Thursday. Thursdays have always been my fave, but now, there’s door porn, all day long.
Yesterday, this happened:
Isn’t that fantastic? I smiled so broadly, for so long, my cheeks began to ache.
Happy Friday Everyone!
Freaking door snobs, I hate when I’m at a party and pack of uppity no account door snobs take there swanky door photos and go hide in the other room!

I love your door posts. They’re something different in a sea of political drivel. They’re often pretty, sometimes thought provoking.

Hahhah, “push it real good” made me laugh in the way that scared the dog. Would love it two times, if I could. (Wait, I can, if I’d track you down on FB. This way we could at least love each other’s doors.)

Haha! Poor doggy, but — Good! 😀
Yeah, I’d friend you on FB, we’re longtime blog buddies now 🙂 Do your friends understand #thursdaydoors?

I have about 120 friends and they do not seem too thrilled. I think more than half must have me silenced. 😀 See if you can take it.

HaHA! I love your door fetish feature! I admire pretty doors, as well as imposing ones, historic ones , little and large ones, but especially brightly coloured ones! 🙂

Reblogged this on Just Fooling Around With Bee or The Bee Writes… and commented:
Today I am giving a little Blog Love to Joey over at Joeyfully Stated. Even if you are not a #ThursdayDoors fan this post and blog is something for you. This post sent a smile on my face and I desperately needed that as black holes are open and black dogs are running beside me. Take good care of yourselves.

Hahaha! I’m going to petition my town counsel to demand all new homes in our Boring Doors town have interesting doors! I’m not obsessed – much. ; )

I like your door posts. Yours all (or mostly) come from Indinapolis, a city I lived in (when I was three) and know very little about, so it’s a way for me to see what I missed.

That Doors poster Rocks. Very clever. I like looking for doors. I drive around and park in a likely spot and walk around. I enjoy your posts and I think you always offer a nice variety. I tried to explain to some folks about it but their eyes glazed over and I realized that I may as well just shut up.

I think eyes glazing over is spot-on! 🙂

I haven’t been looking at door posts very long, but I do like your doors. I’d take photos of doors, but the doors around here are all bland and boring. Maybe someday I’ll see a good one! 😉

Ummm, I totally think of you when I see a cool door. It’s way less weird than me loving cemeteries and taking pictures of random headstones or resisting the urge to speak to trees. Next time I see a cool door, I’ll snap a picture on my phone.

Thank you, Jen. I appreciate your support. You can come over and talk to my trees 🙂

I love doors – looking at them, thinking about them, writing about what’s behind them, and yes, even photographing them. I’m not a door snob, I’m an introverted door lover who isn’t as brave as you, ‘coming out’ about pushing open the doors. Good job!

“An introverted door lover”, quite nice, as I am one myself.
I hadn’t thought myself brave, but I do like you writing it, thank you!

OMG – best door post ever! Door porn – bwahahahaha!! “Push it, push it real good” … I’m going to be chuckling over that one for a long while.
Maybe I’m odd, but I use FB, Instagram, and my blog all quite differently. Only very occasionally will I share a blog post on FB.

First of all you had me humming that damn “push it real good” song all day yesterday and now I got splainin to do cause my Mom is over for the long weekend, and why am I singing dirty songs like that in front of my own mother 😦
And Joey, we say “club” not “cult” *whispering* otherwise you’ll scare away the newbies dude!
Other than that I loved this post and identified with a lot of it, obviously 😀

Club. Got it. Glad you enjoyed it. Try humming classical music 😉

Thanks again for a nice laugh – the push it door now has me thinking of the song!
And fun tweet with the band the doors ! Ha!
I have also faced resistance asking for a U turn to go back and grab a door – and have had to console myself with humming “let it go”
Ha!
and for me – it is all of what you mention – like the craftsmanship – and a door makes such a statement and can whisper many things to each viewer – ……

I hate it when I see a great door and can’t stop to capture it. There were some great ones on the drive down to Florida, but I’m pretty cautious about where I stop when traveling alone with the kids.
