Ti-i-i-ime Ain’t On My Side

There are 31 days in July. Every year. Despite this, the summer flies by the same way it drags on. I don’t know how to explain it, I know it doesn’t make sense, but it’s my truth.

The last coupla weeks have been overscheduled. Not just with places to go and people to see, but things to buy and do in preparation.

OH! And I had to drive home through a rainstorm in rush hour on Friday. I probably needed the entire weekend to recover from that incident, but there was simply no time for that.

This terrible time thing crept up on me last week. I had an entire conversation with myself and it went like this:
oh no, we gotta get up early and take the babies to orchestra.
that’s okay, we can sleep in the next day.
no we can’t, we have to get up early to go to the family reunion.
that’s okay, we can sleep in the next day.
no we can’t, we have to get up and take the babies to get physicals.
but we can take a nap later.
no, we can’t, gotta go to the hardware store.
oh crap.
yeah, and we have a dinner guest. must make dinner. should start soup stock in the morning.

dramatic-pause

Then another terrible time thing happened today.
oh no we gotta get up early and go to the dentist tomorrow.
that is not okay, because the following day, school starts!

Dramatic-Pause

Stuff all on my calendar like whoa.

Sports at school start today. The Mister is taking care of that, thank tacos.

And lemme tell you, mornings and I haven’t got on well these last few weeks. I can barely drag myself out of bed. Twice I’ve made coffee and forgot to drink it. I shaved one leg and not the other. If you don’t plug the hair straightener in, you’re just pullin your hair. Over and over and over. One morning I was so out of it, I tried to lapdance my husband while he put on his socks. Another morning I took the dog out, took some pictures, forgot I was out with my dog, went back inside and freaked out because my dog didn’t greet me at the door.

I am tired because I’m peopled-out. I realize some of you are extroverts and have no idea what I mean, and some people are offended by other people not having bigger people tolerance, but even when the people are wonderful people, they people me out. Not all the people are wonderful people, either.
Like the doctor who’s been telling the same jokes for 30 years, and bless his heart, no one’s told him he’s not funny.
Like the caller who struggles with basic concepts like time and space.
Like the clerk who tried to mansplain at me.

I am close to an introversion breakdown, ferreal. My anxiety has me on high alert.

I am deeply skilled at making nice and feigning patience with people, but I do have a threshold and I may well be there now.

I must get the babies’ teeth cleaned, get their hairs cut, and buy them new clothes. That’s what I have left. That’s a lot of public peopling left to go and not much time to do it in.

Anyway, the way I’m racin the clock, school may as well start in ten minutes.

How’s your August starting? Y’okay?

Well, my shunt seems to be in working order, I found out this morn. Thats okay I guess, so far. But it really doesnt help much for answers. And after last weeks fiasco w/ the twilight procedure, Im pretty doctored out..and peopled out too.
I hope things slow down soon.

      Thank you.
I hope the new shunt is a good thing. Your twilight experience happens now and again, but never to me. lol
We will catch up one day, and I can say with great certainty, it will have to be about this time of day on a school day. xo

Oh boy, that’s a lot of people. I consider myself an extrovert, but I have a breaking point too. I sure hope you make it through the dentist, hair stylist and department store without attempting a lap dance at any of those locations.

As for how my August is going? Not so well at work. We may lose one of two office assistants by the end of the month, at which time the other office assistant will be taking a two-week vacation. That will leave me to wear three hats at work for two weeks. I’m trying to figure out how I can retire before then…

Oh dang, that’s a lot of hats for just your one head! I guess you’ll spend 100% of your time putting out fires and shouting “NOT NOW!” Make sure you play the lotto. Someone has to win, may as well be you 😉

So far August is as frustrating at July was but at least the fog has rolled in off the bay and the temps are cool. People in this area call August “Fogust.”

My word! You are so busy these days! I wish you energy and patience to get through it all. I couldn’t people that much, any more. Back when the girls were still in school, yeah, I had to do all the driving around and stuff. ugh…not fun. Oh, your kids’s school starts really early there? Not sure when it does here, but I think they have a few more weeks left of summer vacation.

  10. I am a major introvert. I can hold my own with people, but need that alone time to recharge. I haven’t gotten much of that lately. We took people with us on vacation. I’d like to find a cave and stay there for a week.

Me too! I am peopled out. August is our busy time- and I do a lot of meet and greets- when I actually just want to retreat and sleep. It’s hard work being an introvert these days.

I am really good, except there is a new possible health issue threatening to derail my happiness. It will not interfere with my KC trip, but is starting to be an issue in the back of my mind. I hope it is nothing.

While your people-bucket is overflowing, mine is empty. I’ve spent so much time in {almost} solitary confinement due to this stupid broken collarbone, I think I’m suffering from cabin fever. Summertime cabin fever is WAY WORSE than wintertime cabin fever.

I hope your acute case of people-itis is cured soon. I prescribe a nap asap.

Oh I agree. I think cabin fever might be worse. I get giddy and stupid and sleepless when I get cabin fever. You should invite people over for coffee and sweets. People LOVE coffee and sweets. 😉

Sleeplessness!! Yes … that’s exactly what I’ve been suffering lately.

Nothing strikes terror in my heart faster than inviting people over! I see all the stuff in my house I haven’t done yet!

Well you have to invite people who don’t care, or if they do care, then make sure they’re the kind who will do some stuff 😉
I’m sorry you’re stuck. Any hope of a weekend outing, maybe?

The last week or so I’ve actually been very mobile so a lot of that restlessness is starting to dissipate. Strangely, my new mobility is not translating into an interest in doing housework ….

I feel you. Totally. The summer does drag/fly. I, too, am overscheduled and peopled out, partly because the summer camps here let out a week and a half before school actually starts, causing me to lose my usually-quiet telecommute days – where I am able to bask in blissful solitude in my house while reading reports – to now-noisier telecommute days with my darling and chatty daughter. Then there’s open houses, and mandatory meetings, and birthday parties, and party planning, and doctor’s appointments, and….. Dude. I’m done.

Yeah. The chatty, at first it’s so refreshing and happy and then it just starts to sound like prattleprattleprattleprattleprattleprattleprattle and I just shut down. I’m done now. All done with the shopping and appointments and paperwork. So pleased. Now I only have to people at work and with my own family. Phew. I thought I’d never make it through! Here’s hoping your prattle time moves quickly 🙂

  22. My summer slowness, rose up yesterday. I get paid on the third of the month, but except for when the third falls on Mondays, I have always gotten the money in my account the day before. So, I went online to start paying my online bills. The second bill wouldn’t go through. What the……..? So I checked the balance in checking while online, and the money wasn’t there. Now, this morning, on the third, I forgot all about the bills. At least I wrote the checks for the rent and my medical insurance yesterday. I don’t usually have the people issues, except when I travel to the various wheelchair sports events that I attend every summer. There, I am among so many people, especially on our second night there when getting ready for the Opening Ceremonies, I lose it. I take introvert to the extreme, and here I am among some 500+ other wheelchair athletes, coaches and volunteers. I get over-stimulated and I start yelling at someone about their rudeness, lack of concern for others, or just plain being in the way of where I think I’m supposed to be. 😆

I have had a similar experience with bill paying on the day that should be payday, so I had a lil laugh at us both there. In my case, I hadn’t actually DEPOSITED my paycheck. Seriously. Heh.
Over stimulation is a real problem for us introverts. I took the kids to the dentist this morning, and I had run out of pleasantries. I felt bad a bit. The dr asked me how my parents came up with such a pretty, unusual name and I said, “Thanks. I don’t know.” Of course I know, but I couldn’t, I just couldn’t talk anybloodymore.
I don’t do well in crowds so yeah, 500+ people never brings out the best in me, either.

  23. LOL; I’m still wrapping my head over your shaving 1 leg and forgetting the other, haha. But summer time going too fast or dragging could be worse or better if Aug was February – you only get 28 days except 29 days every 4th year to do stuff! So do what us retired guys do, if it happens it happens, if it doesn’t happen no big deal because everyday is like a weekend and our biggest problem is remembering what day it is. 🙂

Ah, yeah, no, I’ll have to envy you that. I finished up all my back-to-school chores last night, and I’m hoping the next four days are much, much slower and more peaceful 🙂

  24. This introvert understands. You need to grab the camera/phone, dog, and coffee and go off for a walk and a sit all by yourself so you can regroup. Then you can take a few more humans without ripping their heads off so they stop talking at you. 🙂 Been there, done that, have a drawer full of t-shirts.

Yuck, that’s way too much people stuff. I hope their first day goes well and that you find some time to rest up.

I’ve got LM’s clothes, shoes, and school supplies last week. All that’s left is a hair cut and a slew of open houses/teacher talks/orientations (since he’s start their GT program, he gets double that stuff).

I’m an extrovert, but I know what you mean about getting peopled-out. I had a garage sale this past weekend and got totally peopled-out. I enjoyed some of them immensely, but it was exhausting at the same time. Especially this one guy who came back like 8 times and bought one thing for a quarter…

  27. That’s a really early start to the school year. Mine go back the 24th. We’ve done no school shopping. I keep thinking about it. Does that count?! Soccer season just started on the 1st so the calendar is filling!

Wow, your sports start even earlier than ours! Ours just start the week before, which I think is bad enough. It’s in the 90’s with 80% humidity and kids are droppin like flies. I’ve been forcing fluids and fruit like mad! 🙂

  29. I get peopled out too. Last week was busy with getting school stuff done. It did feel nice to be out but was ready to go home at night. Been trying to get up early, which I do get up but then I fall right back asleep on the couch. OOPS. The boys have been going to bed early but not getting up so early. It is going to be rough next week for all of us. Now, I know why my grandma never allowed me to sleep in growing up. It was to keep me in the habit. Kicking myself for letting the boys sleep in. Sports start with school next week. They will be wore out! Good luck with the rest of your August! 🙂 At least the weather will get cooler, I hope.
