SoCS — EXiting EXhaustion

I was exhausted yesterday. And Thursday, and Wednesday, and Tuesday and well, I think you get it. Back-to-school involved so much doing and peopling, it ate up all my downtime.

Yesterday I was so tired, I was putting on my make-up and asking myself how much concealer I could use before I’d look like a much older reverse-raccoon version of myself. My concealer spoke up and suggested I try a putty knife. More eye shadow then?

My hair was mad. My hair hadn’t had enough downtime either, and it cried for help, making sure everyone knew its struggle. I tried to wrangle it into a bun, but BOING, it would not be suppressed.

It’s not that I didn’t sleep well and plenty, but no matter how much sleep I got, even on the Sunday I got a whopping ten hours, I had to keep moving and peopling on. I needed a long sleep, a day down, and another long sleep.

I get that this weekend.

I’ve been waiting for it for over two weeks.

As I drove home from work yesterday, I couldn’t help but notice The Universe made rush hour traffic smooth just for me.

I picked up Sassy and then picked up Mexican, and then the most exciting thing happened: I watched television while putting the quesoeverything in my mouth. I watched tv all night, and I snuggled both babies, two cats, and a dog. Everyone got a turn, even if Catticus used his to make biscuits on my stomach and cry for crunchy kibble, he had the chance.

Woke up close to afternoon, rubbed all of me over all of The Mister and vice versa. Delicious snuggles, the kind you get when you don’t have to get up and do things. Then the babies, and the dog, and two cats came to cuddle, too. We did that for a good long time.

Peace.

The girls heated the skillet and I made coffee. I chomped on dark juicy grapes while I fried up bacon, sausage, and eggs. We made tall glasses of chocolate milk. Moo sliced up pears and started baking cupcakes.

Downtime.
For two days.

I like to sit on my sofa and think about all the things I do not have to do this weekend.

And I don’t mean to brag, but this week? No appointments, no guests, no events, no lists.

How’s your weekend goin?

This heat and humidity can wear anyone out. I did all of my running around Friday and ended back home drinking Grey Goose and Tonic in the AC. Life don’t suck when you got some good vodka.

That sounds great. A well-deserved breather amidst life’s being life. I have a list of to-do’s (or honey do’s, if you prefer) that I look at occasionally. When I feel like doing some of it, the list gets checked off. No kids or pets these days, but kickin’ back with a good book and coffee ensures clear thinking.

That sounds like the best weekend ever. Good for you getting an early start by making nice with the universe and getting that traffic-free ride in return. You know, nothin just happens.

  10. Nice…the kinda weekend that recharges the batteries. As for me, still messing with the reno project, but there may finally be light at the end of the tunnel.

what a wonderful few days! I love all the snuggling with the pets.

it was a rough week (work is nuts, had to go to a funeral on Thursday), so this weekend has been about chilling out and making sure my friends are doing ok after their loss. I cleaned up my typewriter, got all the old dried ink and gunk off the keys, fussed about with the thing for about an hour. Made dinner, made some other snacks, just chilling out all weekend.

Oooo…love ya, girl, mean it, but I am SO JEALOUS. Which sounds crazy ’cause we’re at the lake & have been for what feels like forever. But it’s been my family week (siblings & spouses & cousins & someone’s boyfriend & my dad & all the hoopla that goes with meshing that many people into one space). I’m tired from cooking breakfast only to find out three people already ate cereal “because they were hungry.” I’m tired from dragging my butt up and down the gazillion steps to the dock, and I’m tired from the stretch of 98 degree days that sucked all life out of me. Everyone finally left today and I was ready for a nice, long, peaceful nap. What did the kids want to do? Go do bumper cars and the arcade before hitting the water.

    Sheesh. (Well, you DID ask…)

Oh I did ask. So sorry for your social suffering status. Will you ever get a nap? Will there be a quiet day? Sounds like someone needs to prepare a meal for YOU! 🙂

Back to school is August 17th, which my grandies are excited but I am rather down about how fast summer slipped away.
I was glad to read about your new job “mentor” on a post then my work kept me away and lost that direction of your posts. Need to read couple more; then off to bed. 🙂

  23. My weekend was half busy. I did do some couch sitting and TV for part of it. The other part was getting normal stuff done on the computer and then on Sunday we left to go get the daughter to finish moving her back home. She is in between the next step she wants to do and thinks she can save money living with us until she figures it out. lol. We will see. At least she can take care of herself but not sure about picking up after her. I hope she has changed since high school. LOL. So I think my do to stuff might have increased, we will see. School next week! Yay!

Adulting back at the house is hard for moms and adult kids alike. It’ll be a hoot, I’m sure! When the boy one stays weekends and whatnot, I loudly tell myself we didn’t raise him right, or he’d be helping me ____! lol And oh boy does he bring the cords. So.Many.Cords.

      • LOL…I feel that way too. Two older ones don’t help as much. I was always working and just thought I will do it myself. OOOPs. Now, that I don’t work outside the home I can boss the other two around more. They help more. So far the oldest is doing ok. I still have to wash her dishes but at least she is rinsing them out!!!! Score! lol
