#ThursdayDoors — St. Mary’s

St. Mary’s Catholic Church is located on New Jersey Street (downtown Indianapolis.) The Gothic Revival church has served the community for more than 150 years.
The church is under some construction right now. We all need more tending as we age, hm?

You know, that might have been our parish when we lived there. I was never inside; my parents used to take turns watching us whilke the other went to Mass, but the outside is familiar.

Beautiful doors and the added bonus that I like looking at construction photos and scaffolding. I hope I look as good when I get to be 150. Well, you know…

You are right the Old Lady has a beautiful door. Those spires cry out for thunder and maybe a hunch back.

A majestic structure indeed, but that’s the way they build’em isn’t it?
Love the door and its decorative strap hinges.

A stunning church, really beautiful. I love the doors, but somehow, they don’t seem to match the rest of the building! 🙂

  18. That’s an impressive building!! The doors are magnificent, but look a little scary instead of inviting to me. Maybe it’s just that gothic reminds me of gargoyles and scary creatures. Too many times at Disney’s Haunted Mansion, I guess. 🙂 -Amy

  19. What a lovely cathedral! The iron work on the door is lovely! I want to go inside now.

I’m glad it’s getting some TLC. I’m not planning to live so long, but will take all the TLC I can get til I go thank you!

I really liked this gorgeous church! The towers are amazing and the details are intricate. I liked the way the post seems to display caring and support from the scaffolding and upkeep I assume is being done, Joey. 🙂

If I ever have to take refuge in a church, screaming, “Sanctuary! Sanctuary!” I want those to be the doors between me and the pitchfork-and-torch-toting mob!
