That Rain Song…

John’s post about rain songs reminded me of how one day my MIL asked me if I could use my computer to help her find a rain song.
That’s what she said.
“A song about rain,” she said.
She didn’t mean any ol song about rain, but rather, a particular song she’d liked, in which rain was mentioned.

I did have the advantage of knowing MIL’s taste in music, but still, quite a lot of songs about rain. Why not songs about night? or dancing? or love? Haha.

After playing about 30 song blips for her, it turned out to be Phil Collins “I Wish It Would Rain Down.” MIL was so happy.

I mentioned this craziness on my Facebook, and for days, people commented on that post with their suggested songs about rain.
This bout killed me.

I suppose it’s important to realize that not all your friends read well. Also, apparently, everyone likes at least one song about rain. And they want to tell you about it.
“Was it this?”
“IT WAS PHIL COLLINS!”
“How about this one?”
“IT WAS PHIL COLLINS!”

omg

“OMFG PEOPLE! IT WAS PHIL COLLINS!”

I still haven’t quite gotten over it.
Whenever I hear a song about rain, I think of the time my MIL asked me to find her that particular song about rain.
So yeah, I think about it a lot.

If you’d like to share or write about rain songs you love, please go over to John’s post.  If you want to complain about that time no one understood you, I’m here to read you well.

  1. Hihihi, I had one in my mind even before I read this till the end. Ok, fine! NO RAIN SONG HERE! But I’d love this game of finding her song. I’m glad you managed it and made her happy.

    First, thanks for the shout-out!

Speaking of people who don’t read… I publicize my posts on Facebook and Twitter, and any time I have a post about rain, I have a friend who invariably requests “Rhythm of the Rain” by The Cascades. I’ve told this person a dozen or so times that it’s at the top of my “Rain Songs” playlist. Honestly, I don’t think she reads the post, just sees the subject and immediately wants that one. I almost think she has an IFTTT recipe…..

  5. Please thank your MIL for requesting that song because as I sit here there is a very, and I mean very, light rain coming down. We are so grateful to her. 🙂

My favorite rain song is Listen to the Falling Rain by Jose Feliciano. Also Elton has a wonderful rain song but I can’t think of it at the moment.

You’re right. There are a bunch of songs about rain. I can think of a few lyrics; no titles. I am rotten with titles.

I once had to list a bunch of rain songs for some challenge or other…there are a ton of rain songs, and they are most all good ones! 🙂 Sometimes I get on a search for something, and it takes forever going down the rabbit trail …haha

Joey – was your mom thinking of Orange Juice Jones’ song “walking in the rain”???
    Kidding –
And the Phil Collins song reminds me of the “behind the music” show we used to watch – most episodes were so so – but the one on Ohio Collins was so master crafted – with background jams and juts the right snippets of his career from Genesis to solo –
Cheers to music about the rain et al.

  12. I am always yelling at people who ask questions like that after everyone else has settled the issue. Of course the fact that I am in my house and the idiots aren’t, they don’t hear me. Probably wouldn’t listen anyway, even if I had a megaphone next to their ear.

I have posted two rather long lists of rain, storm and inclement weather songs, with an essay included. They could be accessed on my blog, but it is so silly. At the time, I was interested in providing information, Joey. Funny, ha ha ha! 😀
I cannot help myself giggling that your MIL needed such help but you are a dear DIL for helping her! Thank goodness, the rain song brought some people here rain. We have had a little over the past week, but had a deluge not too long ago, so no, we don’t need any rain here, I hope the farmers agree. . . 🙂

All I know for sure is that I really wish it would rain here. We need rain. If one of these songs can make that happen, I’d be grateful.

  17. “Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain, telling me just what a fool I’ve been…” Ok, that has to be my most favorite (gotta love the grammar sometimes) songs about rain, and I can’t remember who sang it. I will be looking it up for sure, now that you’ve brought it to the surface of my brain. Now it will be rattling around inside my head until I find it. But it replaced whatever song I woke up with, in my head, when I woke up this morning. I seem to wake up with a different song in my head every morning, with absolutely no idea how it got in there.
