For those of you who are regular visitors, you should be familiar with The Big Blue House. For those of you who don’t know, The Big Blue House is a house that belonged in The Mister’s family for a long, long time.
For most of the year, someone’s been workin lil by lil on it. In June, I shared how The Big Blue House got a new door.
Most of us liked it, and almost all of us agreed that it’s great someone is putting effort into the house again.
Well, this week, The Mister was on his way to the DQ when he called to tell me Big News on The Big Blue House — The Big Blue House is no more. Now, it’s the Big Orange House!
I stopped over there last night to take a photo. The boy one, he asked me, “Why is this house so familiar?”
“It was Mamaw’s house. Usta be blue.”
“Oh, wow. It seemed so much bigger when I was a kid.”
Yeah, growing up does that to us all, hm?
Some of us love it, because orange is Moo’s favorite color. Other people, like Sassy, are orange haters, whether because orange or because sister, I do not know. Some of us just wanted it to stay the way it was.
I am a fan. I’m so frickin glad it’s not beige or tan or khaki, I revel in its orangeness. I’m thrilled for that house, I am. Happy as can be!
I’m sure at some point I’ll re-update you on its fixins.
For Old Time’s Sake, I’ll also share with you the door of another big blue house I spent a lot of time in.

What say you about The Big Orange House?
Like you, I’m happy that someone is giving it the time and attention it needed for a new life. Orange? Blue? It’s all good 🙂

The orange made me smile. I grew up in a 3 story home with light orange painted stucco. It stood out, was very easy to give directions. ☺ It was later covered in dark green aluminum siding. Not sure that was an improvement, but still…easier to maintain, but just another big house with green siding. sigh…

I like it. It is a happy lets get shit done color. As much as I like blue it can be a bit of a downer sometimes. A no I don’t feel like playing right now sort of color. Good choice.

Orange is my favourite colour too! Can you believe I’ve never found anyone else whose favourite colour is orange?

I can, because I think it’s rare. Moo and my nephew and you — that’s all I got 🙂

Nice new door….I liked it as a blue house, then revisited the orange update and decided it all looks sharper and smarter in orange!

The house doesn’t scream Home Depot orange, but a happy orange it is. I like the porch on the other blue house. 🙂

It looks great! Definitely needs some shrubbery back though. 🙂

That is a pretty dramatic change. So can we call it the Pumpkin House or the Halloween House now? Nice to see that the progress continues 🙂

Pumpkin House has a nice ring, Norm 🙂

The orange house looks spiffy! I love oranges of all hues, and this looks more like terra cotta. Our kitchen cabinets are that color. I really liked the blue, though. Maybe because it had the shrubbery and tress all around. I hope more landscaping will be added to the house, now.

I will be sure to follow up 🙂

Nice! I’m glad the owners are taking care of the place and giving it a new look. It appears the landscaping may be next…after the house is done.

Not a fan of orange. Unless it’s a fruit or vegetable. Happy that someone is putting some love into the house, but… well, not a fan of orange.

I don’t think I would want to live in an orange house, but I’m glad they didn’t go from blue to white or beige. It was an interesting color and they kept it an interesting color, so goo on them.

I wonder if the new owners know their every move is being dissected by internet house stalkers. ~grin~

Heh! There was a man coming and going when I took the photo, and I waved and said thanks to him — He seemed okay 🙂

I like blue, but glad it is being cared for.

Although I am a blue kind of girl, orange is an inviting color for a house. And for the fall, I’m sure trick or treaters will love an orange door. It is strange how a simple color can change a house, though. And your child’s remark about the size is cute and shows how time affects our perception of places and objects. And of houses too.

My house is orange-ish brick. I tell people it is the pumpkin on the hill. I wore an orange sweater to work today. I guess I am OK with the house….although I really liked the pale blue. I do not have a pale blue sweater. No pastels for me, please.

The blue was totally suited to the previous style, and goodness knows the orange would never have gone over with the Queen Anne vibe. I like them both, but they’re totally different houses now.
I wear blue about half the time. I have MANY pale blue tops 🙂 lol

and we have a house guest who uses “mamaw” – I have not heard too many people use this word and now here it is again…

I’m not a fan of orange in general, but I like it. It’ll sure stand out.

That looks like a very different house; without the landscaping the curb appeal changes and the window and door trims are gone so the house looks very different. Thank goodness they didn’t keep the blue color and added orange trim; my former next door neighbors (thank goodness they moved away) had a faded blue house and orange steps and that stuck out like a sore thumb (literally).

That does sound bad! It does look like a totally different house now. Thanks for your visit 🙂

It’s nice to see that somebody is putting the effort into restoring its glory. I don’t usually like orange, but it seems to suit the house well 🙂

Big Blue House also got some new windows. I wonder if it will always be the Big Blue House no matter what color it changes to? This orange seems a nice mellow orange…not blinding or shocking. 🙂
The front door is lovely, and very, very similar to my front door. Good choice! I love how much light it lets into to our very long entry hall.

I like blue. My brother makes custom doors. He made a real nice one for his own front door. He put a big red bow on it and set it in the garage. It was his Christmas gift for his wife. I have a picture of it somewhere, but it would take forever for me to find it. Oh, she was somewhat less than impressed! I thought it was a very nice door.😯

Oh my goodness! I think a bit shame on her, hardly anyone makes doors anymore!

He is going to have to make a couple more when I move in with them, as my room and the bathroom that I’ll be using, both have doors that are too narrow, even for my manual chairs!
