If you wanted to de-clutter where you live, what room / space would you start with? (And why, if you’re feel like admitting to it.)
Haha, the kids’ rooms! I did de-clutter their rooms when they were younger, but I wouldn’t now. They’re at an age where I merely say things like, “Clean your room,” or “Perhaps it’s a good time to get rid of some things.” They won’t live here forever, so I just insist they keep the common spaces tidy.
If you want to remember something important, how do you do it (sticky note on the fridge, string around your finger, etc.), and does it work?
At home, I’m my own boss, so I just obsess about things until they’re done. Lists are helpful if I need to purge my memory. I insist my kids take responsibility for their own activities. I’ll have them pin scheduled events on the bulletin board, and issue reminders to me. For my own appointments, I sometimes put a reminder in my phone, but usually I just keep the appointment cards in my purse and the date in my brain.
At work, we have software to input our tasks, but I also use sticky notes for pressing matters, absolutely.
If you could create a one room retreat just for yourself, what would be the most important sense to emphasize: sight (bright natural light, dim light, etc.), hearing (silence, music, fountain, etc.), smell (candles, incense, etc), touch (wood, stone, soft fabrics, etc.), or taste (herbal tea, fresh fruit, etc.)?
This sounds like such a treat, I don’t know where to begin. A silent room, lots of long, narrow windows, but with heavy curtains, cotton, cotton, cotton — overstuffed chaise, no electronics, smell of old books and lavender, plates of fresh fruit and cheese, orange tea, please.
If you could interview one of your great-great-great grandparents, who would it be (if you know their name) and what would you ask?
I think I’d go for the Seminole, Concha, and seek her lost wisdom, but only if she’d come here. I am not going to Florida in the fall.
Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?
This last week was a good one. I’m most grateful for Friday, because it was especially cool and lovely and I got to drive through the forest and play outside with my family. It was just a fantastic day. This week coming up has temps in the 80s again and I’m not pleased, but good things may still happen.
Cee’s Share Your World is a weekly feature and all are welcome to play along.
What’s going on in your world?
Lovely photos Joey. I laughed when you said that when you have things to do you obsess over them until they are done! That is me all over too, although i am not as organised as you seem to be! I forget to write important dates on my calendar in the kitchen or write things on the wrong day/wrong time! 🙂

I’ve had a few wrong days in my books over the years as well. One time, I even wrote the thing on the wrong month. It took me ages to get that one squared! 😛 “How is he supposed to walk over to the high school after school if it’s on Sunday?!?” LOL

Love the leaf in the water. 🙂 I’ve been decluttering the garage and moving things so the delivery of wood pellets will fit. When my daughter moved out, I found new clothes still in bags in the closet. I have a four-season porch with a wall of five windows that is white and a sky blue – I could live out there. 🙂 I’m trying to button up the outside while starting inside projects so I’m keeping busy.

The photos are beautiful. Loved learning even more about you, especially about how eager you are to meet your Seminole ancestor hahaha. I’m kidding. I took away from that that you love fall where you live and don’t want to miss it.
It might be a bit cheating though to choose to declutter the kids’ room. I mean, that leaves all your stuff intact . . . . 😉

My stuff is orderly and de-cluttered, I’m a purger. In fact, it’s sometimes nice to look at the coat closet and realize one day, their coats won’t be in there, and we can buy more coats 😛 haha!

Hahaha, yup, I get that. But then my kids stuff is still hanging around here. I get rid of some, give them some, and still there is more stuff.

I really missed the boat on that one. I guess that’s why I still worry they will come home again ;).

How many children do you have? Two? Daughters?

One of each!

Well the odds are slim they’ll both come back at the same time, and you could still shove em into some bunk beds.
Oh, does not everyone think like this?! Haha!

It goes with the anxiety disorder, but I suppose it has some advantages, thanks, Laura. 🙂

Florida is great this time of year. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a leaf on the beach, though…. 😦

Florida might well be great this time of year, but I wouldn’t want to miss a single day of fall’s glorious splendor here 😀
Say hi to the beach for me!

I enjoyed the peaceful setting you designed for your one room retreat, Joey. I like many of the same elements, especially books, cotton and windows. Your foods sound very healthy while I would wish for a microwave to make popcorn and make my tea (or coffee.)
I would include a chaise lounge, bif throw pillows and a nice desk to sit at and paint or do pen and ink pictures at.
I had fun at granddaughter’s cheerleading 8th graders football, grandson’s football game and a bridal shower for my friend’s stepdaughter. Disappointed my Renaissance festival tickets were not used since guy I have been dating for 4 months backed out. I am not sure if it is a full retreat yet.

Your one room retreat is exactly what I imagined immediately when I read the question. Your description is excellent.

Your Friday sounded wonderful. It would be interesting to go back to speak to an ancestor. I have so many questions to ask. Sticky notes, a real big calendar, and alarms on my phone are how I keep track of things. I love the photos!

I’ve thought about that long lost ancestor question for years. I’m curious about my great grandfather who came here from Ireland, fought in the Civil War, then became a farmer who, by many accounts, did not do so well at farming, but had the gift of blarney that kept him solvent.

I’m in a de-cluttering process. As for the kids’ rooms, I just shut the door. Florida probably isn’t as lovely as the fall foliage right now, but in a few months I will be wishing for its warmth.
I love how the Seminoles have maintained their culture. We used to take the kids to the Old Florida festival in Naples and our favorite part was their dancing and storytelling. I still have a beaded cornhusk doll necklace that my aunt got me from that or a similar festival when I was a little girl.
