This post has been elicited by Anxious Mom and the Picture Battle in which she invited me to participate. I’m inviting no one, but feel free to crash the party.
*achem*
On one of my thrifting excursions this summer, I came across a gorgeous Kelly green wool jacket, in fabulous condition, and in my size. I bought it for $6. I was, of course, thrilled. Texture queens love a nice wool, so long as it’s lined.
As is required by Shopping By-Laws, I showed The Mister my spoils and I was met with some disapproval over my green wool jacket.
I believe he suggested I wear it with a tiny green hat and maybe carry a bucket of gold.
Well, I never!
Some time later, I had the jacket cleaned and I informed him that according to the brand, the retail cost of the jacket was $225, and here I got mine for $6 and an $8 cleaning bill. He could not deny my thrift. His eyebrows raised then, and he said, “Good job, Baby!”
I mean, if you don’t praise your wife’s incredible talent for thrifting and saving, she might turn retail on your ass.
Time passed.
It grew cool, and I donned my Kelly green jacket.
Time passed s’more.
One night, Sassy asked me if I had the feels for some actor or newscaster or someone and I looked over at The Mister in his Kelly green shirt and I said, “Nah, I’m good. I got this leprechaun lookin mofo right here.”
And we all laughed and laughed!
Behold, The Mister in his Kelly green shirt:
Happy Friday Everyone!
Hihi, this is funny, even though green is my favourite colour. Right now I’m wearing green practically all over and under, except pants are black (and bra… well.) But wait until you see my new green coat (slightly darker green though)! It’s waiting for the temperature to drop (or for countries to change). Amore only mentioned once that not all things need to be green. And he has a green short-sleeved shirt which he refuses to wear lest he looks like a German (his words, even though friends call him Tedesco), hihihih. All in all – all aboard green for gogogogo!

Haha! Amore is funny 😛 I wear mostly white, blues, and black. But now I own two whole green things, and I’m told I wear it well, so… maybe there’s more green in my future.
I’ll be excited to see your new green coat 🙂

When you started talking about a green jacket I thought we might end up talking about golf, which is dull. But leprechauns, those are noteworthy. Fun post.

Such a deal. Nothing makes my heart soar more than a good bargain. I like Kelly green. I don’t wear it often cuz I am more brown and blues; with a pop of yellow or red thrown in. Happy Friday back at you.

What a fantastic deal on a beautiful jacket! You should get lots of credit for that find. And, the color looks lovely on you…and the Mister. Happy Weekend! 🙂

Hahaha, the little glimpse looks downright purty. Years ago there was a local clothing store in Kalamazoo that had WAY marked down everything including Coach purses which at the time were always the most thick flexible soft matte finish leather you could imagine. Of course, I had to buy a forest green one one year and olive green the next because the only colors marked down to $10 were green. It’s sort of a Green Pride thing and I wore those suckers with a lot of it even in the midst of a . . . few comments.

🙂 Now see, I like colored bags a great deal. Particularly in shades I don’t wear, because contrast. So I could totally get down on a green handbag, especially a nice one with a $10 price tag. I think that may be the only color I’ve NOT had.
My coach bag is denim and super duper big, so I usually only carry it when we travel. It becomes like mini-suitcase thingy.

I am pretty sure I still have those green bags. And I now also have a red one and a hot pink though not Coach. Yup. 🙂 I love a big bag for travel so I can put a small bag inside and have that “big purse” for an extra carryon haha.

Score! $6 for a couple hundred dollar jacket? That’s wearing and saving some green. Good job indeed.

You guys are funny. I love to go thrifting and pick up some cool J Crew or Ann Taylor tops for work for like $4! Woo hoo! God, I love a good deal. You did GREAT!

Yay! I love it too. I absolutely hate shopping/hunting, but I do love to return home with a $$ pile worth $$$ 🙂
Last month, I fell in love with some orange-ish Mary Jane heels, chunky, so 90s. They were a skosh bit too small. This last time we went, they were still there, and they fit Moo, so now she has them. I’m all the time, “Girl, I love your shoes!” and she says, “Thanks. Vintage Kenneth Cole, $4.” 😀

Great when you find a deal like that, isn’t it? The color’s nice and I’m sure it’s warm enough for the Indiana winter. Best deal I got was a winter jacket (lined with PolarTec) that was originally $100 that I got for about $20.

You look great in this green, Joey! I like the joke being turned on your husband, too. 😀
My Mom and I often thrift shop and love wool jackets which have plenty of wear left in them! Mom has about four red ones and three royal blue jackets.
I happen to like tan and black wool jackets, I have at least two of each that are throw backs from my favorite past ones long gone. The brass buttoned black “pea coat,” is my biggest saving purchase; so also my fave!!

Oh my goodness yes. Love to find well-made items on the cheap. When I was 22 I found a navy blue wool Jonathan Michael dress coat for $12. I still wear it several times a year.

I wish I could find goods like that online so that I wouldn’t have to dig through everything. I get a bit overwhelmed if there is too much to choose from 🙂

I try to get the males in my house to wear green (usually paler than kelly green) because it makes their green eyes pop and I’m super jealous of their green eyes. Mine are blueish-gray (most people in high school said they were gray, like a cat…hmmm…). I have a green purse that I love (on my about page).
The jacket looks like it’s lovely….and a bargain…score! 🙂 -Amy
