What is your favorite smell? What memory does it remind you of?
That’s too hard and also I’m too weird. Smell is highly evocative for me. I’m one of those people who smells everything. My most recent sniff was the smell of The Mister’s pillow, which of course, reminds me of The Mister.

What type of pet do you have or want to have?
I have three cats and a dog, plus, all the squirrels here love me, which should be enough, but I still want a goldfish…

Are you usually late, early, or right on time?
I am usually early. I hate to be late.

For recharging, would you rather meditate, swim, walk, listen to music, write, read, yoga, qigong other?
Reading and writing are both good for recharge, but so is staring at my trees.

Bonus Question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?
Oh gah. Y’all, this week was …

I am grateful that I had a boring weekend.
Cause I simply cannot get well. *sobs*
I had the whole boring weekend to sit my ass on the sofa and sleep my face in the bed. I downed shots of Mucinex and coughed my voice away and blew my sinuses out. As if the neverfuckingendingflu isn’t enough, my uterus is trying to kill me AGAIN. My husband has to study for finals and can’t pay me the attention I so desperately need. Mostly I read, played on my phone, and watched shows. Grateful for Twitter. Sadly, I am me, and am only able to slack off a certain amount, so I also cooked, washed dishes, wrote the cards, and wrapped the presents. But I did it all in pajamas with wild hair and I think that helped.

weekend
I’m kinda better. I keep thinkin I’m kinda better, so that’s good, right? It could be worse, so I’m grateful it’s not. I’m going to work, but I won’t be able to use the phone or yell at the printer, so I don’t know…I’m grateful for my arms and legs. Okay, no, probably just my legs, cause my hands are crap. Okay no, I’m grateful for my hands too. They hurt, but they still do stuff.
I’m grateful for my dog. Heart heart dog heart.

This week, Moo has a choral concert and otherwise I’m lookin forward to gettin well. *pumps fist*

I could just stare at trees and get recharged too. Maybe I should have added “stare”. 😀

  5. I was looking forward to a picture of your wild hair, but noooooo, you couldn’t be bothered to share. Fine!! I’m always early, too, although I married into a family what has members with a tendency to either be there just barely on time (while I’m gnashing my teeth) or late. I also like reading and writing for relaxing. I hope you feel really better soon and enjoy the Christmas season as much as possible!

No favorite smells, but of the many I like, it depends on time and place. I don’t like any cologne or perfume. None. I like walking in the forest after a rain in Spring and Summer because of the smell. I agree with ‘evocative’ and even say sensual. I have and want no pets, but I like most animals. Recharging for me is alone time. I’m grateful for life.

Yay. Joey is sorta’ kinda’ better *pumps fist* Twice. You are so right on about smells. They are evocative and scary. The first thing I thought of was the scent of English Leather. It reminds me of a hay ride, a girl named Vickie and the Beach Boys’ tune “Good Vibrations”. After 50 years that is scary.

  9. Smells and memories ! Like you, I have too many favorites. But I know the worst for me…moth balls. My MIL used them all over her home, even in her vacuum. So if we visited, and set luggage on the floor…we carried it home with us. We went down the cleaning aisle at a Kmart, my toddler kids both said, at once, “Grandma”. ☺ Get well soon, so you can smell stuff. 💛 💙 💜

I have this old throw “pillow”that was in my late grandfather’s house. I say “pillow” because it has the density of uranium. I don’t know how that happened. Anyway. Even after several years, it still smells like his house. I keep meaning to put it in a Ziploc so I can save that smell. Is that weird?

Well honestly, I’ve only felt good about 10 of the last 40 or so days, so I’m not sure I could keep my job with that kinda absenteeism! I sure do appreciate the sentiment though, thanks 🙂

You made me think of the chipmunks that use to hang out in our backyard eating the nuts from our trees and the woods behind us. I could just sit and watch them and the trees for hours. Hope you mend quickly.

  13. I hope you are feeling better! We’ve had rounds and rounds of sickness here, but so far I’ve managed to avoid it. *knocks on wood!*

That’s how it usually goes…being sick, needing to rest, but still have to get things done around the house or work. Still sniffling around here, too, with round 2, but think it’s at least half over. Hope yours is on it’s way out, too. xo

Wow, think how much you would get done if you were sick all the time?! OK, I am totally kidding. But I am seriously impressed. You definitely need to get better now so you can enjoy Christmas. I’m going to go smell my rosemary bush right now. Or my mint plant.

This sickness will not go away, will it? We had three people in my department (there are only 6 of us!) go home sick today. As one who does not want to catch any sick cooties, stay home! But get well soon, Joey.

I hope you don’t get any of it, Lois! Mentor and I have shared illnesses the entire fall and I do suspect it’s because we share equipment around the office. I have a right mind to let my OCD go to town and start wipin down the fixtures and stuff with disinfectant! Last week her wee one was in because he was gastro sick and I asked God to spare me that one! lol
If I’d stayed home all the times I was poorly, I’da been fired, I’m sure. :/ workin 10/40 of the last days is not acceptable!

Goodness but this post does bring the attention immediately to mind of just how valuable and wonderful our sense of smell is. The comments contributing stories of favorite smells are delightful.
I join in with wishing you a full return to excellent health. Keep watching those trees! And Happy Holidays!🎄

  20. And, we’re all grateful for you because even when you are sick as a dog, you’re still funny and make us laugh. 🙂 The smell question caused me to immediately remember as a kid sleeping upstairs in the summers at my grandparents’ farm. There were grates in the floor so heat could rise. because there was no real heat upstairs. But, when my grandmother would fry donuts early in the morning, I could smell them because of the grate. Good memory, and those days were the fastest out of bed ever. 🙂

I hope you feel better. Nothing worse than being a mom and having the flu….and working. My favorite smell is pine trees in the summer heat. Reminds me of my dad.

That soup, lemme tell ya, anyone can make that soup. Onions and garlic with butter, add chicken broth, can of petite diced tomato with juice, fist of basil, simmer, add rolled SAGE sausage meatballs to the pot, simmer at least one hour, add tortellini and spinach/arugula at the last 10-15 minutes. Super fab soup. I think it’s from BHG.
