As far as I can tell, my household is full of mongrels. Most of us are vaguely Northern European with our pale skin and long noses. Moo’s got that skin though — that skin that tans in the shade and browns in the sun. She got it from my mother, and whether it’s Seminole or Melungeon, she’s got it. My hair in its natural state does not scream white girl so much as it screams Mediterranean ancestry.
We barely outnumber the four-legged mongrels.
Clara’s mother was Siamese. Cletus is part dog. Catticus, I suppose, could have been a part-ocelot, part-street urchin when we took him in.
The dog, well, she’s muttastic. Her mother was a German Shepherd, but according to commenting gawkers, her father was part Chow? part Dachshund? part Golden?

I think Chow for certain.

The husband’s DNA ethnicity results leads us to believe he has melungeon heritage. I had not heard the term before I started researching his line. 🙂 The kids ended up somewhere between his nicely tanning skin and my “the sun came out and now you’re fried” skin. LOL

That’s a blessing! Eldest daughter can tan, if she does it slowly enough. Living in Florida helps 🙂

Joey, I could see your family of animals as being quite a bundle of characters and personalities! Your own family has unique heritage traits coming out, mine is similar! They all started out looking alike with blondish hair, while my son has the thickest hair and deepest skin tones. Felicia is fair and pale at times when Carrie is reddish in face and neck, while hair is a thin brown hair, following some of mine and some of my Mom’s traits. Life in a family is a menagerie or smorgasbord! 🙂

What a fine bunch of mongrels. Your Tabby cat has a belly like Pinkie. When he lays around the house he lays AROUND the house.

I love the Christmas tree shot. Your dog looks like my grand puppy. She is supposed to be Australian Shepherd….pure bred. But she isn’t. Cute dog though.

Absolutely love these pics! Our Phoebe came from a lab rescue but is definitely a mix — we’ve had several guesses as to the rest of her DNA. Maybe one of these days I’ll be curious enough to do one of those swab tests. 🙂

Aww, is that a pupperchino in the Starbucks cup? Otto had one the other day, and enjoyed himself completely.

I love your take on this Joey, and your photos. what a good looking set of mongrels you all are.
We are a bunch of mongrels in our family too. Miss Hap is part Anglo Saxon, part Mediterranean for starters!
