SoCS — March

March. Bleh.
March has never been my favorite.
The boy one gets older every March. My he’s big now. Now he looks like The Mister only taller and broader. He is magical, what with his mathing and his technologing and thoughts of things to think. I love him to pieces.
He used to be like this:

mam.pool

This metamorphosis occurred right before my very eyes. Sometimes I see his five-year-old smile, and my happiness lives there a moment before returning to his man-face.

Otherwise I have only one other important birthday in the month of March, and I forgot it this year, because I am a bad friend, although he’ll probably forgive me because he’s a Pisces and we have been friends since… 1993? Holy crap. I should call him.

It’s very long, isn’t it? March?

In like a lion, out like a lamb, they say. Some of us prefer the lion. March winds, I do like those. Like all that cold wind. I don’t like to fly kites.
Yesterday it was hot already, stupid 78 degrees. I had to open my car windows and let the wind take my hair.
Got to work and the space heater was on. Apparently I work with those who prefer the lamb’s end of March. I’ll be buyin a lot of summer sweaters this year, so I can wear them all year. This is kinda funny if you know me offline, because since I left Georgia, I have bitched and bitched and bitched about my lack of heavy warm sweaters, and now I finally have almost enough (cause never enough) heavy warm sweaters to wear and I don’t get to wear them all that often.

There’s basketball in March. I live in Indiana, so this is like a religion. I’m not religious, what with being a Unitarian Universalist and all, but oh how we dabble, so I do dabble in the brackets from time to time, although I have escaped Hoosier Hysteria. You should probably be aware that I didn’t make that up. I know it’s hard to tell when I make up so many words and phrases, but I’m totally serious, you can Google Hoosier Hysteria. People have painted it on their big red barn. Now we have to cheer for Kentucky, because the enemy of our enemy is our friend.

I think that sums up all I have to say about March. I’d never be a good marchand for March, but I can sell you on April. Love me some Aprils.

  1. Really like this line, “Sometimes I see his five-year-old smile, and my happiness lives there a moment before returning to his man-face.” We don’t have many lion Marches here in Southern California. We have had some rain the other day but our Springs are usually pretty warm. Still gets a little chilly at night and in the mornings.

I think you know my feelings about March. I said “I don’t trust it” and this year, it has lived down to my expectations.

Havin just left Kansas City, I watched the Kansas-Purdue game. I don’t think Kansas can be stopped. I wasn’t rooting for anyone, just wanted to see if Kansas was any good. They were. It was pretty lopsided. It’ll be interesting to see who takes it all. I don’t even really care about basketball, but any time you see people that good at what they do it is interesting.

Awww, this was just such a cute and open smiling picture which demonstrates his mathing and technologying, thinking smart thoughts. . . the boy is marvelous! Happy Birthday to the boy!
I like how I know this madness and also how you nearly make a pact with the devil to root for the enemy which is an improvement over the enemy’s competition. For us, we would root for Kentucky, too! March on out into the sunshine! I’m heading there to soak in some sun. 🙂

I kind of like March. What with its crazy changes. Weather can be too predictable. I watch most of the games on TV. I like the excitement of college ball. We watched Butler while eating roasted chicken with biscuits and jalapenos. That is about as Hysterical this Hoosier gets anymore. Enjoy your weekend.

March sucked coming in, and its sucking going out. Im just waiting for the lake in my driveway to show up, heralding the official start of Spring.

  10. Your boy…adorable. I’ve always hated March, which is interesting to me since it was the month I was conceived ??? I gave up on heavy sweaters about 10 menopausal years ago !!

March IS very long. I know it runs the full gamut of 31 days and all, but still…I think it’s because we get a hint of winter’s end, just enough for me to think I’m out of the woods (shivering-wise), and then a cold snap bites me in the butt. All I know is that March days seem to drag on and on, and we don’t have any birthdays to distract us in our house.

Not a fan basketball, but living where I do I’m surrounded by OH-IN-KY fans, so I smile and try to look interested. I have a love/hate relationships with March, not because of my basketball indifference, but because of the flaky weather. Just get on with spring, already.

  13. I don’t care for January, February, or March. Once I get past March, I’m good the rest of the year. 😉

    Enjoy your weekend! 🙂

Cute photo of the boy! As I sit here with the 40 degree wind blowing the rain around outside, I’m hoping you are not complaining too hard about 78 degrees. I would trade you in a heartbeat!

March can be confusing. You don’t know whether to wear a sweater or a coat, or what. The azaleas and dogwoods bloomed early here in the lower end of the mid Atlantic, and I thought they would freeze but they came out okay in spite of the strange dip in temperatures. Yep that boy of yours is a cutie. Mine is 31. Hard to believe how they grow up in the blink of an eye.

We’re all about that March Madness now. Usually don’t have a reason to get into it to much outside of bracket fun, but our Gamecocks made it to the Elite 8 for the first time ever (and this is a program who hadn’t been to the Sweet 16 since 1973, a decade before I was born). The star of the team is from my little town, so everyone is super excited. /basketballtirade

  19. You said, “Sometimes I see his five-year-old smile, and my happiness lives there a moment before returning to his man-face.” I LOVE THIS! I’m going to add it to my little flip notebook of quotes I love.
I can totally relate to how you’re feeling. I miss my little boy too, but am so happy he is the good man he has become.

The only thing in March that is really special for me is my wedding anniversary. The only problem is for the life of me I can’t remember the date of our wedding. What I do keep in my head is it was the last Saturday of the month and is one of two dates. I always have to look up the date on my wedding cert. or ask He-Man who remembers. Since I remember the day and not the bloody number I’d like to just celebrate my anniversary on the last Saturday in March thank you! You know the way Thanksgiving is always on the last Thursday of November.
I’ve been trying for years to get He-Man on board with that idea. He’s not goin’ for it. 😦

Hmm, I like your idea. I mean, celebrating anything on a Tuesday isn’t the most romantic or relaxing… I wonder why you struggle to remember? I spend half of August looking forward to mine, but we celebrate on the weekend after anyway.
I’m glad you liked my words, I’m honored you’ll keep them. I’ve heard it said we see our kids never as how they are, but always as glimpses of how we’ve seen them. I don’t know if it’s true, but I live for that smile.

      • Exactly! My anniversary is tomorrow or Tues. I need to find out and get a card!
We always celebrate on the week-end too. Usually the one right after the “date”. This year we’re celebrating this week-end which falls on April 1st.

We eloped. We left Friday night for Lake Tahoe, got a hotel room, then He-Man wanted to go straight to the chapel and get married. I said, “NO. I’m not getting married in the middle of the night. It’s one thing to elope, but I’d like to marry you in the light of day.” So, we fell into to bed well after mid-night.
I have no idea what the date was that Saturday we woke, dressed and went to the chapel to get married. I just know it was the last Saturday of March. That’s what stuck in my head.

  20. March is forgetful. I have a little sister born early in the month, that’s all that’s good about this time of year. Except, these past two-three years we’ve been extremely lucky winter wise. We get hit but it’s not constant like it used to be.

I don’t think I own more than 4 long-sleeved shirts. And I’ve decided I’m not buying my children winter coats anymore. They maybe wear them once before being donated the following year as too small.

I feel that. It was sorta ridiculous what we left Georgia with. Came home this time of year. Hadda shop a lot that first week. Can’t even get really warm stuff down south.

  23. We have lots of Tar Heels fans around here, so they are pretty happy right now. March has felt very fast to me…I think that’s a sign that I have too much going on. lol Happy belated birthday to boy 1. It is crazy how fast these babies grow!

  25. But March is Spring time, Joey! Pretty daffies and bluebells and sunshiney days that are not boiling hot! Also the clocks go forward so we have lighter evenings too. Lots of nice things about March 🙂
