Any descent into madness begins with the letter A.
A-Z Challenge begins with pinging back to John Holton, and well, a list.
I am a pantser and SoCSer overall. I just sit down and write.
I hoard drafts and doors and eventually, mostly, I drag them to the surface and share them. Some have been sittin there for years. I could run out of material or feel a surge of courage, so I keep all of them just in cases. I also keep notebooks and comp books and journals and index cards and bookmarks and dogeared pages and slivers of paper — cause, writer.
But I’m not a good word planner.
I never considered the planning of words until my third unfinished novel, which I think explains their unfinished quality. For A-Z, because I struggle with numbers and time and since I still sing The Alphabet Song when I file, I do make a list. I’ll not veer from my One-Liner Wednesday and #ThursdayDoors, so I need to make sure I have material lined up for those days. And I do.
Fortunately LindaGHill will supply my Saturday prompts for Stream of Consciousness Saturday. What would this blog even be without Linda?
Anyway, this is my fourth year of A-Z-ing through April. I know now that I’ve built up a tolerance and I can take the madness. Can you, Dear Reader, take the madness? in small daily doses? for twenty-six days? Let’s find out.
Stream of Consciousness Saturday — SoCS ‘any’ is, of course, brought to you by LindaGHill
Ah four years- that is a real achievement. Best of luck with this one. x

I can take the madness of reading, but I can’t even imagine trying to participate. I came close last year, oh so close, then I caved. Good luck. I’ll do my best to tag along in the bleachers.

Happy A to Z madness! It’s my 4th year, too. Mostly nothing is planned before hand. We will survive again this year! 🙂

Goatspeed, friend!
I haven’t done the A-Z in a year or two. I thought about trying this year but I can’t/won’t commit to anything. (In life, generally.)

Haha! Thanks. I have spent much time in my life not committing, so I support your non-endeavors 🙂

I’m more than game to read. To participate? As in, to write?
You are made of stronger stuff than I!

I have no idea what this is but it sounds daunting–for you, not for me. I shall sit back and happily read whatever you write. Twenty-six straight days, huh? As Maggie says, you are made of stronger stuff than I, Joey.

What’s the challenge? As “they” say, “You go, girl.” We’ll either watch/read and enjoy your descent or try to keep you sane. 🙂

Yesterday was A, tomorrow’s B, Tuesday’s C, and so on. 🙂

That part I got, but do you choose a word that starts with that letter or what?

One must do what one can… It varies.

So you could write about bees on the “B” day or “To be or not to be”, etc.?

After 3 years, I decided to sit out this one. Even having posts prepared in advance, the pace was brutal and I’m just not up to it this year. Kudos to you!!

Good luck with it 😀 I remember one year (either last year or the year before), when I briefly lost the topics list. Yikes.

i’m not in this year. The overall change away from the master list to a more labor intensive daily link-up put me off the challenge. My concerns about this change were never fully addressed so I decided that me and my alphabet, which I had partially written already, were not wanted. Maybe next year I’ll have a change of heart, but not this year. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Bummer. I like your emoticon thingy.
Would you mind to tell me what your concerns were?
I had trouble with the linking, because John has two different posts…
BUT! Last year I was one of the people who helped find those who didn’t post or who spammed, and I liked that less. I’m always annoyed by the number of people who sign up and who 1) can’t write to save their lives 2) take me to advertisement and 3) don’t post.
I don’t know that this will be better, (all-around it must be a bit better) but now I feel like it’s tradition…

I didn’t want to link each one of my posts to the letter of the day every stinking day. That’s lots of extra messing around with internet linky thingies that are unreliable at best.
In previous years I used the master list, despite all its faults that you mentioned above, to find new-to-me bloggers by methodically working my way through all the numbers. If a link was a dud, I moved on. No harm, no foul.
But with this every day link thing I’ll be tripping over the same people, not finding the new ones, because every day every one will be linking again in a different order.
That being said, if the new system works, then I’ll be happy to adapt next year after all of you people are the beta testers!

Ah, yes, we will be the guinea pigs 🙂 Too early to say how well it works.
Thanks for explaining.

I’ve decided to not use the drop-in links. I will only use a ping back, and I’ll tag atoz, but the blogger thingy they use hates me (the feeling’s mutual). So, done wid-dat. Race ya to Z.

That’s a helluva streak. And I might add – 3rd unfinished novel? What the heck? That’s so impressive that you even undertook 1. Wow.

Well done for joining in for the fourth year, Joey! I have done it once and really enjoyd it, but didn’t want to commit myself thiss year( God knows why not, I post almost every day anyway)!
My blog would also be nothing on a Saturday anymore if it were not for Linda! She also takes care of the January posts!
🙂

That Linda, she’s an inspiration 🙂
You do post most every day, as do I, but there’s something heavy about the end of the alphabet… 😉

Yes, it involves too much thinking!! Something my poor brain is complaining about at the moment! 🙂

Congrats for your fourth year in A to Z blogfest. I certainly cannot take this, which is why I don’t join. Not because I can’t write on a daily basis, but because I write just too much on a daily basis professionally.

As do I, but I like that part of life, the words part. 🙂

So, you are going to do the A-Z challenge, plus one-liner Wednesday, plus Thursday doors? You are definitely made of sterner stuff than me. I applaud you and wish you well in your efforts!

You are made of stronger stuff than me. I’ve done one daily challenge back in 2009, and haven’t wanted to do another one. The pace is grueling.
I’ll be in the bleachers with Dan and others cheering you on.
