My original plan for W Doors was Water Doors.
I’m sure they have a name, and if my mother reads this post, she may well tell me what the proper name for them is, but because W, they’re WATER DOORS.
They’re along the banks of Fall Creek, so I presume water, although to be fair, enormous Weebles may roll out of them after dark.
So yeah, W was for Water Doors. Super cool, right?
But then…
I came across this building.
It might be an old motel, but now it’s a business with many toolboxes a la work trucks and my research indicates it’s a heating and cooling service.
I was immediately intrigued by the …

Your wrench doors are much nicer than the water doors. I don’t wanna know what may creep from said doors after dark. Or what sits just behind them waiting for night to fall.

Whimsical Wrenches and Water doors! That blue building is so pretty! I love all the interest they created just with paint on a pretty plain construction. Plus, the wrenches. The water doors are … Wait for it … Wonderful! They make me think of the culvert Hazel-rah hid out in in Watership Down.

Oh sure I’d tell, but I’m not so sure I’ll do it. Italians wouldn’t care one way or the other to hear their door is on some blog, whereas Slovenians might complain. :p

Let me start by reminding you of our conversation where we agreed that we like simple names for things. So, I’m all happy with “water doors.” If you want to get technical, I think they are backflow preventers and they are sometimes called duckbill valves. But see, that could be just technical enough that your mother might tell me that “no, duckbill valves are not round…” So, yeah, water doors.

Thanks! Simple is just simpler. I must say, since I spotted these, I’ve looked for more in other areas by the creek, and haven’t seen any, leaving me to believe, at least for now, these are special simpler.

Oh I would steer clear of those water doors, personally, especially at night. What a great combination to then see the modernistic blue doors, with a wrench no less.

I’ve never seen hinged doors on culvert pipes before …. I’m assuming those are culvert pipes …?

I think they USED to be. Given the area, I strongly suspect they’re previous culverts, from when there was a railroad through there. (That land belonged to a very wealthy, important man who lived there 1920’s-60’s, and he had his OWN railroad.) But now, they’re just there, without drainage…just left. I like em, though.
I have looked at other places along the creek and not found any more like these. I’m glad your interest is piqued, too.

Those doors rule! Probably my favorite doors since the ones in UHF, which I’m totally sure you’ve never seen. They have a regular door knob, but it’s in the middle of the door.
Also, growing up we had many creeks that ran through our neighborhood, but the one big one that was a raging river of death after a rain, at one end it had two big pipes like that, but they didn’t have doors. Me and my buddies would walk through them all the time. Sometimes we’d take hairspray and lighters down there just to be kids. Of the two, though, we only walked through the one on the left. Because in the water in the right one, there were water snakes and they were huge, and they would jump up out of the water and take your hat right off your head. And one of us almost always had a hat on, so we didn’t want to lose our hat. So we always walked through the left one. Also, the two went for a ways, then turned sharply, which made them real dark there, and then they emptied out into a bigger one. We couldn’t get out that way without getting wet, so we always had to make the trek twice, which we didn’t mind. 😀

There’s some detailed information I will write one day, about the property where the water doors are. It’s creepy, so it’s right up your alley. BUT I gotta organize and research before I write it.

I loved your title and almost would wish for the word “monkeywrench” but not sure if it is the same kind of took(?)!
This was a double “W” whammy doors presentation which has quite a fun contrast between rust and the unknown mixed with crisp blue with white and gray details. The wrenches on the door are great additions!
