#ThursdayDoors — It Rants and It Shows You Sheds

Gentle Reader,
Feel free to skip the words.

Regular Reader,
Lean in.

I’ve been gettin out quite a bit lately. Wearin shoes and bras all the goddamn time.
I’ve been runnin around like a headless chicken. Lakka-lakka-lakka, Drew would say.
Oh, I’ve seen some doors.
If I could just have ten hours of straight sleep, and then a full twenty-four hours of wakeful productivity…
How do we get more hours in the day? Is someone workin on this?
I will whore myself out for more time. I got some green pennies, some dustbunnies, and a leaky tangerine. Get at me.

Yeah, I got some great doors, but no time to research and write the posts.

So glad it’s Doors Day and Kitten Day and make yourself a fuckin sammich for dinner day. Be lucky I cut up that cantaloupe and washed the berries. I am so done.

Parents and teachers nod along. Maybe other people, too. I don’t know your life.

Oh, it’s a long weekend, you say?
RIGHT ON.

For now, you get sheds. You get sheds and you’ll like it.

This first shed is from my friend Jax. It’s got a nice vibe. I like whatever’s goin on there in the lower left corner.

Oh there’s a shed in there. Peek-a-shed.

And here’s my shed, which is more me showin off my climbing rose. Several of you know I have been working hard to get it to climb properly since we moved here. I regret to inform you that this is much prettier in person.

And now, this.

IMG_3292

I oohed and aahed, cause it’s like a lil mini-barn. Lil hayloft. I don’t know what I’d put in there, maybe my angst, maybe rum, I dunno, but I love it.

I ooo’d and ahhh’d when I saw the mini-barn too – and its little loft. How cute are those little peek-a-boo doors!!
Your climbing roses are also gorgeous. When we bought our house 25 years ago, the backyard was a study in roses. The people who lived here clearly had a love on for the flower. It took me a mere 2 summers to kill them all. That was my first clue that my gardening skills were … missing.

Ah. Now see, I’d just say they were old, tired roses and it was their time 😉 But YOU said the other. And thanks so much! 🙂
I’m glad you oohed and ahhed too!

I hear, ‘ya. I’ve been running around this month, too. I’m exhausted what with going here, doing that, and deciding thus. Your doors are pretty this week. I adore the little barn, but don’t know what you’re supposed to put in the hayloft either. Angst sounds about right to me. Hang in there, the long weekend is coming.

I’m sorry you can relate, but hey, look at us go! Maybe we’ll enjoy the long weekend more than other people who had a slow-paced May. (If those people even exist.)
      Thanks, Ally Bean 🙂

Thanks for finding time between the errands and work and stuff to make us smile and bring us a lovely little shed. I have to renovate our shed this summer/fall/2018 and I may go with a similar style door on the little upper opening we have in the gable end. I particularly liked, what I assume is your answer to “what’s for dinner?”

      Thanks so much!
If I can go buy fresh meats and cheeses, they can surely assemble a sammich 🙂
I’m glad you like the shed, too. I really do like that hayloft dooji. If I remember correctly, you’ve already put some doors in unlikely places?
I want some windows in my shed. I’m more likely to get more spiders, but I really would like some windows…

I really enjoyed your shed photos! Your roses are awesome! haha the peek-a-boo shed! Our sad shed is just boring metal thing, sitting on the dried out grass. Haven’t been in there in forever, because of spiders, mice, mold, dust, etc. Not going in there anytime soon…especially not today as it is supposed to be 102 degrees out there. Our shed would be a heat lodge/sauna. 🙂

      Thanks!
PHEW! Yeah, no, our shed isn’t my favorite in the dog days of summer, either. Yours must surely be hotter! Already 102? You wouldn’t like here any better today — gray and cool, I think the high is 60-somethin.

I thoroughly enjoyed all the greenery in this week’s photos, particularly that plant in front of Jax’s shed – looks like it’s trying to break out of a cage or something. Lovely doors too, of course

Wearing bras…now that’s one exhausting activity if you ask me. Now that you mention it, a sammich would be mighty nice. Green pennies?

    • joey says:

Isn’t it? Gah, I’m so over it.
A sammich will be delicious at the end of this day!
Old pennies exposed to moisture are green with patina. I seem to be attracting them lately…

  10. I’m liking the peek-a-shed… it looks like it has some stories to tell. And I’m envious of your climbing rose. I still look at the ones I have and feel a mix of hopefulness and mild annoyance.

Thank you. Roses are definitely not my fave. So high maintenance. One is enough for me.
Peek-a-shed really is a lil gem, half cause it’s hidden away like a secret, methinks.

  11. Great selection of sheds, Joey. Even though I love that last one, the climbing rose makes yours the winner for me today.

  12. Rum. Or angst. Whatever you do, though, don’t mix ’em. That way madness lies. And/or jailtime.

Hey, I like sheds. They remind me of the Monty Python sketch involving an interview with the composer Arthur “Two Sheds” Jackson, which for some reason is one of my favorite Monty Python sketches. I like it so much Mary sometimes calls me “Two Sheds.”

I love the sheds, but skip the words? The words here are fucking delightful. The Line “I’ve been gettin out quite a bit lately. Wearin shoes and bras all the goddamn time” is a line to start a novel if I’ve ever heard one.

Words! Pictures! And, oh, the month May has been all Shoot Me Now. I look at my calendar and quote Dorothy Parker: “What fresh hell is this?” I thought I was going to have a few days off, but Something came up. And a long weekend is no treat WHEN IT’S PACKED. ~sigh~ I did have a few days this week and napped the hell out of them. So. Your roses are beautiful and artfully climbatory. The shed with the easel bush outside of it would be perfect for an artist. Maybe you can propogate clippings of that easel bush and sell ’em, and then you won’t have to pimp yourself out, eh? Keep all your green pennies for your ownself.

      Thank you 🙂
I cannot propagate easel bush clippings, cause they’re from northern Ontario, but I’m glad you ALSO think it’s an easel!
I’m so sorry you have a packed weekend. I hope you have all the fun ever. :/ That’d be good, right? The girls have plans, but WE DO NOT. Not a thing. I’ve been doing the end of the school year for 17 years.
Nobody wants these green pennies… and they come to me like long lost children.

That rose. That one. Wow. We used to have a shed that looked like a plastic shed you buy at Sears. I’d forgotten about that. Sheds creep me out with their bugs.

I like your hay loft shed. That isn’t one you see too often. Is there a little burro to put in the little shed? If there is then you can store hay in the loft for your burro. The hay could also insulate your bottles of rum. I can’t imagine any rose dis-obeying Joey. It looks lovely.

  22. Oh I like that mini hayloft/barn shed too. What a neat place to store stuff.

Your climbing rose is gorgeous. Does it smell wonderful? It’s so lush and heavy you can have a new clipping to take indoors every few days!

Thank you. It DOES smell wonderful! I think that’s part of the reason it’s prettier in person. I enjoy fresh flowers most of the summer.

I know, I think the white mini-barn really is one of the cutest I’ve seen. 🙂

  23. Nice rose. I have a bunch of them and they need some TLC right now. I’m with you on the time thing, but you’ve read my whining enough about that.

They’re so high maintenance, aren’t they? I had four bushes at my old Indiana home, but they were FAR easier to tend, having always been kept up. This one’s a beast and I will plant no new roses.
We can whine together, me for at least another 22 hours.

  26. I’m fine with sheds, Joey, and I love the roses! At our house in Cleveland, we had some fabulous climbing/clinging roses that came from a plant I bought for $1.99 once upon a time. 🙂 Made me so happy to think about that when I saw the profusion of flowers.

As for more time in the day, it would be great if someone would solve that problem, even though some people seem to think that’s what Daylight Savings time does. Good grief!

Thanks times two. Ooh, is there anything better than a garden deal?
I thought of you today when I wandered by a butterfly bush for $5.99. I thought about your monarch. I haven’t read enough about butterfly bushes to buy one, but I think you’ve inspired me to research a bit more. If I remember right, the hummingbirds like them, too?
Daylight Savings Time Is Stupid. I say so every year, twice a year. Stupid.

      • Our rental house came with a butterfly bush and I love it. It also attracts bees, hummingbird moths, and others. You should buy one. They do get big, so don’t plant it too close to the house and they die away completely each year, need to be cut down, and then re-grow.

I was reading about the cutting back just a bit ago. My hydrangeas are like that.
My previous hesitation was because of a friend who complained of getting thwacked by her butterfly bush at the front door, so it’s funny you mention that. I think I would put it out toward the end of the vegetable garden, attract those pollinators!

I’ve become rather fascinated with sheds lately. A good friend of mine is having shed issues: her husband bought one recently. Only this isn’t a shed. It’s a Shed. The damn thing is 2 stories tall. Their house is only 1. He’s installed recessed lighting and run cable. The upper floor is becoming his man-cave. Oh, how I would adore a shed. Even if I can’t have it, if I could only move my husband’s crap out there….

Oh I’d love a nice barn shed like that in our back yard – just lovely.
“You get sheds and you’ll like it” brought on childhood flashbacks toof “You”ll get what I make!” or even worse, “You’ll get what’s on sale!” 😀
Great job on those roses too.
