One-Liner Wednesday — Abrupt Levity

The Mister and I were snuggled up sweetly, contemplating the horrors of Joel and Julia’s divorce¹ when I said, “I can’t imagine being divorced. I can imagine you dead, cause I’ve done that so many times², and — ”
His laughter was unexpected and as he howled, I realized. Oh how I realized.³

¹Joel and Julia are fictional characters
²During travel, training, surgery, and deployments
³I could’ve phrased that differently

Joel is/was way too huggable for that nonsense.

I think a wife of mine said the same thing. I am pretty sure she didn’t mean it the way you did.

Nice. I liked how you used footnotes in the quote.

  5. Any woman who has not imagined her spouse no longer with her, and taken necessary steps (where does he keep his computer passwords), is asking for trouble if something happens. And it could be that hubby is in the hospital for emergency gall bladder surgery, not death, but it happens at the time of month he normally pays the bills – or something like that.

I should make that WHEN something happens: no one should expect to get through life without SOMETHING going wrong occasionally.

    Yes, you probably could have.

Nice pictures of you two, by the way.

That is too funny, Joey. It puts a smile on my face that you and The Mister make a much better couple than two fictional characters from TV.

LOL my hubby has NO CLUE even though I try to tell him things. He’d be lost. I, on the other hand, have had those thoughts. Great post.

Yes, maybe worded a little differently would have been better … but not nearly as funny 😀

As someone who thinks too much (meaning me), it’s going to come up now and then.

Two ways to think of this…funny and serious. Footnote # 2, definitely!

  15. ROFL!! Love your images, and the footnotes. I’m so glad he thought it was hilarious and howled with laughter. 🙂

I don’t think He-Man appreciated it too much when I said I couldn’t see us divorced, but I could see me being a widow. He didn’t laugh.

  16. Mister is a good sport. I went to the same place he did and not to footnote 2. Bright spot in my day!
That a new do? A very chic look for you!

The reality is I knew that where your mind was. It was realizing that there were many points in my life I could have checked out with all my travels, deployments, and surgery. How you delivered it though was priceless. I couldn’t do anything else but laugh.

That fact that you can laugh now about the close calls, real or imagined, means you are in a VERY good place today 😀

  20. My anxiety has made that scenario go through my head more often than it should over the past 19 years. At least he had a good laugh about it! 🙂
