Oh, I know, you think these are gonna be some fab photos of brightly-colored doors and happy Spanish-speaking people partying, but I need to quash that hope right now.
No.
There were gobs of happy Spanish-speaking people, and me trying to listen as quickly as they spoke, but to my ear, it sounded like “Welcome Everybody to the what? Fiesta huh? what? huh? We are happy you’re here with us today huh? huh? Indianapolis huh? what? celebrate huh? Thank you what?” By the time all that sunk into my gringa brain, I was red, dripping with sweat, and REALLY wishing my kids could drive, because nothing would have made me happier than a big ol margarita! Oh yes, I speak all the Spanish-named food and drinks, and my favorite is margarita, closely followed by queso. Queso que? Quesoeverything!
I guess it’s Sassy’s thing to play at Fiesta every year.
And I guess it’s my thing to drive her.
I’m hot just thinkin about it. It was partly sunny and eighty-freakin-six. Thank goodness for clouds and trees!
I was reminded of this bit from Fools Rush In because I love that movie almost as much as The Mister does, and he quotes this last lane frequently, because we melt alawt.
See, we white bitches need margaritas. Why has no one brought me a margarita yet? It’s gonna be eighty-freakin-nine today!
De todos modos, here are the doors I got:
It was at this point, Moo pointed out the door handles are uneven, so I stuck my phone in there to get that bit.
These are two different doors from the Masonic Temple, also referred to as Pentalpha Lodge on Illinois Street.

Very majestic doors. Look as though they could resist a couple of battering rams. The Fiesta is fun but in this humidity? I would have had to try and smuggle in a thermos.

OMG Benson, it was sooooo hot and sticky and hot and hot! Ugh!

You did well to capture those massive doors in that heat, Joey. We used to have some great fiestas in Spain, but I avoided the ones in the height of summer.

Thanks 🙂 You were smart, Jean 🙂

Those doors are huge! Talk about “don’t let the door hit you in the…” Wow, think of that, a fellow could get killed.
I love the ramblings of Joey. I think that should be a book of some writing bible somewhere or some day or something. If I lived closer, I’d bring you a margarita to wash down your lunch.

They ARE huge!
Thanks, Dan, that made me all smiley 🙂

The doors are cool, but the uneven handles bother me. How does that even happen?

LOL I dunno, but your love of symmetry is endearing, Ally Bean 🙂

Having recently had all this remodeling done around the house, I am hyperaware of symmetry right now. Over time, I might mellow on it.

You must be very proud of Sassy playing at the fiesta. I hope you got your Margarita when you got home though, as it was such a hot day. 🍸🍸🍸🍸
I love the doors, but their asymmetrical handles put me off a bit!

Thanks, yeah, I’ve no idea why the handles are like that.
I am SO PROUD of Sassy, I can’t even word my pride!
I still haven’t had a margarita! We had guests for dinner after, and we did open a nice Riesling. 🙂

Great doors, and I love the uneven handles! Well spotted, Moo! Do we have a Doorista-in-training, there? ~hands Joey a Margarita~

Thank Fuck, Marian, can you believe how many people didn’t even offer cyber margaritas?!?
I dunno if Moo will ever door on her own, but I can tell you she DOES love symmetry and she’s got an artist’s eye.
Thanks again 🙂

Oooooh – I love asymmetry … I just wouldn’t have thought of doing it with door handles. What a great way to mess with people’s heads.
So, this post made me laugh out loud. Only you could and would do a Door Post with a random lead-up about margaritas and white people melting in the heat 😀 😀

I’m glad you LOLed 😀 Thanks!
I do wonder why they’re not even, but it doesn’t bother me… Maybe someone wise will tell me why it’s like that?

I’d like to think it was the deliberate brainchild of creative genius 🙂
… in other words, I hope it’s not simply the work of a lazy idiot who couldn’t be bothered to do it properly.

Right? Cause the builders WERE Masons, after all….

Hola gringa! Muy buenas puertas 😉
Great dedication to the cause Joey. Even when you’re enduring the heat you still got an eye out for doors. I feel your pain though. We’re gonna need the icy-cold drinks with the umbrella’s in them here too. It has been unseasonably hot since we got back 😦

Muchas gracias, gringo 😛
We had been having the most splendid of summer weather, just dreamy and then BOOM! Hot like Whoa! I need a trip norther than north! Stay cool, my friend.

I don’t love fiestas on hot days, but I do love me some margaritas on almost any day! I went to a predominately Hispanic high school so I’m pretty good at making out some of the words (if they talk slow enough), but mostly only the naughty ones. Great find on the doors! While I admire the quirkiness of uneven door handles from some level of artistic standpoint, it would drive me crazy if that were on my home. 🙂

The naughty words are most memorable in any language 😉
I agree, I wonder what the crooked handles are all about.

I could really use a margarita today, too, the frozen sort only. It’s stinking hot here, which means anything starting with a 9 or above. Anything starting with 8 is hot enough; with 7–lovely. Anyhoo, those are some substantial doors, but really, what’s with the handles? For people of different heights? Weird. Good for Sassy to play and you to drive and bring on the margaritas!

YES! Where did these steamy temps come from? Ugh.
I wonder about the handles, I really do, but I don’t know anything about them and they’re not mentioned on the historical page.

Wish it was hot here – I’m making a crockpot dish, and yesterday it was an oven dish, and changed PJ’s 3 times, because the cold keeps me awake. I know, it’s never good!
Was reading glimpses of the handles- situation of the door. You know, sometimes carpenters make mistakes (also big mistakes!). Hubby discovered after a while living in this house, that the railings of our deck were the wrong side up! After a few more months he said worriedly, “The house keeps sagging… ” In my naivete I replied equally worried, “Well, can’t you do something about that?” He spent the next month rebuilding the WHOLE deck, ugh. But at least I can lean against the railing!

OMG! I’m laughing so hard I’m crying mascara! Your leading narrative is hilarious. I love margaritas on the rocks w/salted rim. YUM! The doors are YUGE!
The uneven handles…I wonder if they did it because of that key lock thing. The design was symmetrical all the way down til the key thingy then they fooled around sticking the design bits here and there, put on the handles where ever they fit around that key thingy and then they went back to even pattern of the design down the doors. Weird.
Let’s get a drink! 🙂

Best explanation on the door handles yet, thanks.
I still want a margarita. On the rocks, with salt, yesss! Gonna be so hot this weekend! I dunno who ordered this weather for the first week of fall, but they cannot come to my birthday!
Thanks for laughing 😀
