SoCS — Hot & Cold

Hot things are awful. Hot weather melts me, hot sun burns my skin. Hot is the worst. I was trying to think of hot things I actually like, and it’s a limited list. I like hot baths. Hot baths are heavenly. I love to slip into a steaming hot tubby and feel all the aches and pains slide out of me, into the water, and down the drain. I suppose the heating pad falls into that same category. Or warm hands gripping my shoulder, elbow, wrist. If heat alleviates pain, then I like it. Otherwise, all things hot are icky.

august 2, 2015 too hot. am dying. send snow. ‪#‎sundayselfie‬ ‪#‎yankeebitch‬ ‪#‎ihatesummer‬ ‪#‎gardening‬ ‪#‎rosaceaonfire‬

I like hot tea and coffee, but not really, not how other people do. I let it sit and cool until it’s lukewarm. Same with soup and well, pretty much everything I eat needs to be near room temperature.

Exception: Ice Cream
Because ice cream is one of the best things in the whole wide world, like winter I can eat with a spoon, winter on my tongue, winter in my belly.

I’m supposed to eat cooling foods and I do pretty well with that. Too much pitta, too much yang. Too much heat in my body is no better than too much heat outside it. Maybe that’s what makes me fiery and spirited. It’s definitely what makes my face red.

I live for winter, when I am seldom hot. Love temps 20-50, when it’s good sweater, boot, scarf weather. The coffee and tea cool faster then. It has to be below 20 and windchilly before I’ll complain it’s too cold.

When the furnace goes on the fritz, I bundle up and make do. When the air-conditioning goes out, I get dramatic and lie around pissing and moaning about it.

I have always been this way.
I remember being nine and bein told to go out and play. I remember sassing about how if it was so nice outside, maybe the adults should go out and sweat in it, too, then.
Living at home, I was scolded for having my windows cracked in winter, many, many times.

I love to be cold like other people love to be on the beach with sun and sand. I love to be cold so much that just seeing photos of tropical vacation destinations makes me squirm with unease.

I just love the cold.

Oh, amen to that. High in the mid 90’s today. Bah!

Yes to all except the coffee, as I do not partake of coffee. When I make tea, I cool it down with milk. It’s in the mid-eights and humid and sunny today. We ran errands. I am home in my ice-box of a house with the ceiling fan running to try to cool down. Hate heat. Love cold.

The only difference is ‘tween us is that even in the winter I wear tank tops and haven’t put on a sweater in YEARS. *sigh*

      I understand!
I got shorted on my sweater-temps last year. My office was so hot all the time, I wore blouses. Kinda hated that. I like long-sleeve shirts. They keep the loose hairs off my arms and make me feel cuddly 🙂 lol

I can tolerate heat better than most folks. The humidity is something else. Hate humid days. Which covers most summer days in Indiana. Cold makes me into a cry baby. Below freezing temps and I do not get along. Stay as cool as you can and eat plenty of ice cream.

I know we are total opposites on this matter, apart from that humidity. I wonder if there are people who enjoy humidity? If there are, they’ve not been forward about it.
I hope there’s some ice cream in my evening 😀

  4. I’m with you on so many points…the cold, the open window, the hatred of sweaty hot weather, especially when it should be Autumn already…ugh. But, I love my hot foods/ soups/ drinks to be almost boiling…it has become a thing. I serve most hot liquids to my family first, then keep it on the burner for myself…never too hot ! I was at 2 outdoor events today…fall events. It was almost 90, I came home, showered, napped. Come on Winter !!!

My bestie is like that about the hot food, too! 🙂 I dunno how y’all don’t burn your faces off, lol!
I ended up having to go out, briefly, and I lived. There had been orchard plans today, and I felt so sad, because ordinarily it’d be nice weather to orchard, but today, we’d just roast.
Glad you got a shower and a nap 😀

This is true, we are the opposite on the hot/cold, except for the ice cream. That’s good winter or summer! Otherwise, I like food hot with spices, and heat, and coffee super hot. If these get cooled off even a little, I have to go heat them up again. Oh, I am freezing if the temps get below 70. 🙂

  6. As you know, I am not great in the heat either although I like sunny days. Warm sunny day not sweltering hot ones!!!

  7. I like it just right, not too hot and not too cold. Ice cream is good though. 🙂

Me too. I like hot coffee on a cold day, and hot tomato soup with gilled cheese sammy. Now live for first time since early 70s in home with no A/C. Yes to ice cream.

  9. I could love me some cold today, day 2 of the AC not working and 90-plue degree temperatures. It may be Tuesday by the time someone can get to us, so I’m trying to pretend we’re living in France near our relatives, where no one has AC. In winter, I love hot and I usually drink hot tea, but it’s all cold today, when I can get it.

    Be cool!

I am not a fan of the heat. Your description of the furnace/AC fritz-going-ons Elul can be my wife. She made it 10 days in November without power. Thank God we’ve never lost power in July.

I guess you’re living in a decent place for the cold then. But maybe North Dakota would better? My brother is like you. 55 degrees, summer and winter in his house.

I prefer cold weather to hot: you can always put more clothes on, but can’t always take more off. I prefer food (and coffee) hot. Iced coffee holds no appeal for me.

I get strokey in the heat, even when it isn’t sunny, so hold the heat on my order, please. I’m not crazy about being freezey, but I like that better than hot, especially hot and humid. I always say, you can put on more clothes, but the law will only allow you to remove so much and no more. And once you’ve removed all your clothes, if you’re still hot, too bad, right? My favorite beach vacation was to Tybee Island in December. Perfect.

You, me, John Holton and my grandma — “You can always put more clothes on…” YEP!
I lived near Tybee, Decembers varied, but I think I’ve got ya.

I prefer cold to hot, unless we’re talking about coffee in the morning– then it’s hot coffee for me, thank you very much. Even on these ridiculously hot 90º days…

Oh my gosh, my kids are THE SAME WAY with hot food. It seems crazy because as much as I hate hot weather, that’s how much I love my hot food hot. Contrary, I know.
But I love your description of ice cream. 🙂

  16. I don’t like when it gets so hot in the summer. But whether summer or winter, I really like to have a dish of nice cold ice cream accompanied by a nice hot cup of coffee. I’ve even put the nice cold ice cream in the nice hot coffee. Yes, I’m one of a kind.

Warm hands ❤ My husband thinks I'm being all sweet and loving when I get him to hold my hands (so that he's cupping my knuckles), but it's all about pain relief. We're gonna be in the 90s for a few days this week before the temps drop to the low 70s. HEAVEN.

  18. I love ice cream but not freezing cold weather. That’s not because I can’t put on enough clothes or get out a soft and warm afghan, but it keeps you inside which translates to trapped like the 90 degree days in the summer. I don’t like either extremes but certainly do enjoy the in between days. Love the photo. 🙂

  19. I used to tell my parents that I was born in the wrong place. That I was really supposed to be born in a Scandinavian country and somebody messed up and had me born in Florida. Then I experienced a Virginia winter (probably milder than many places) and realized that I was incorrect in the youthful thoughts. Fall weather is my favorite. If somebody could just make every day 60-80 with low humidity and a slight breeze, I’d probably be in heaven. 🙂

I get to read this from the benefit of the weather having changed. This morning, it was a bracing 48F when I got up. No complaints – sleeping was fine 🙂
