Monday, Twenty-Five September

My dream weekend would have been spent in some cottage in northwest Europe. I’d wear sweaters and walk by the sea and write beautiful words and contemplate life while grazing on fruit and nuts…

Yeah, so this weekend was not like that at all. Although, I did eat alawta grapes and pistachios NO, YOU have a pistachio problem!

I’d just told Judy at Edwina’s Episodes that I hate going places after the gym, cause I know I look gross. I’d told her I only take my keys, phone, earbuds, and water. Well, yesterday, my hair was already icky and I had to shop at two more stores after and the girls wanted to go, too, and it was ninetytenthousanddegrees, so we took everyfreakinthangweown and showered at the gym after. Very steam, much sticky. Do not recommend. Used Bonnie Blue’s air conditioning as blow dryer. Did not feel clean or dry for hours after.

PS: I am not a gym person. Going to the gym does not make me a gym person. It does, however, keep me from turning into a full-on hippopotamus with a heart condition and it’s like, good for my joints or whatever.
I prefer weights like these:

the mister’s choccie covered almonds

Then, because I am not a gym person, I parked at the nearby BP and sent the kids in for soda, because I am a soda person-slash-baby hippo. While they were in there, I sent a selfie to The Mister, conveying my love for water pressure, air conditioning, and him.

blow me, bonnie blue, yaaaas

It was then that I noticed a sign, which made me think of Dan at No Facilities.

yuengling

i swear it’s a heat oasis out there

I know, you can’t read the sign. It was for Yuengling ice cream. Well, I never! Seems people who read Harry Potter want to try butterbeer flavor. I am not a Dumbledore so I have no idea what they were on about.
I looked this up and one of the first articles said there wouldn’t be beer flavor. But um, butterbeer? Is a mixture of buttercream and butterscotch ice cream which sounds far too rich, but there are other flavors a hippo can get down with, like cherry vanilla.
Apparently they started making ice cream during prohibition and stopped making it thirty years ago. Who Knew? Not me! Why anyone would ever stop making ice cream is beyond me. One of these days when I’m not makin a big ol dinner, I think I’ll stop and pick some up.
But yesterday was not that day.

How was your weekend? Was it too hot? Did you eat ice cream?

Was too hot. Hid in house as much as possible, basking in my refrigerated family room. Allowed Hub to take the dogs out all weekend so I didn’t have to suffer in the heat. (Today is PT and it’s still hotter’n hell, so I’ll be out in it ….bleh.) Had ice cream Friday night with family (Sonic choc milkshake with extra whipped cream…yaaasss!).

As for Yeungling ice cream. I’ve had some of it, it’s yummeh! I haven’t seen the butterbeer flavor but it actually sounds kind of good to me. LOL As with other ice cream brands, not all the flavors are good, but it’s nice and creamy and worth trying out if you find a flavor that interests you.

I do not do gyms anymore, but I understand the feeling icky-sticky and not clean after all the sweating and the showering and the being in the heat. It’s gross.

  2. That would be no and no. Gelato season is finished. Now I need to go far for it. Buying icecream in the shop for our freezer is not the same. Sandal weather is over too, and I need the undershirt. The photo of you with these glasses is femme fatale!

Here in the north, it is always ice cream season. Alas, the only gelato we get is not the real deal, but it still tastes good, fresh or frozen section.
Thanks, rather than fatale, I felt a bit fatal 😛

  3. My week-end was great. I went birding on Saturday with friends. I was thrilled to see so many Sandhill Cranes have returned… Winter is definitely coming early, and ate a burger at a favorite out of town drive in burger joint, and hiked a little on Sunday with He-Man. Then spent the rest of the Sunday enjoying doing a lot of resting and reading.

I did have chocolate, but no ice cream. BTW; I’ve never been a gym person either. He-Man says the house is my gym, and the trails. 🙂

Love the way you write…ninetytenthousanddegrees is prettydarnhot! I’m not a gym person and totally get not wanting to shower in a place like that. No ice cream for me this weekend but I did have cake on Thursday and Friday (a friend had two birthday parties). You certainly do not look like a baby hippo in your pictures.

Thanks again, but you know, hippos are largest at their middles 😉 And I definitely won’t be sharing my middle on the interwebz.

Ha – Yuengling Ice Cream – I’ve never heard of that. I also should have continued reading instead of getting unnaturally close to my monitor trying to figure out why that photo made you think of me. I decided to ask you in a comment, and then…obvious…it usually escapes me.

I don’t gym. The Mrs doesn’t gym. We have a bike trainer and a treadmill that we use, in the house where we’re the only people. I have just (this month) started riding the bike (again) in the early am, before work. I ride and shower in the basement and then come up to face the household.

I did eat ice cream this weekend, and just about everything else. And I consumed adult beverages and I sweated. Thanks for the shout. It’s always good to know that people think of me (trains, cranes, bridges, beer, but hey, thinking).

Honest, I wanted to show my dedication to legible signs, but not as much as I wanted to stay in front of the ac vent!
I think you should try the Yuengling ice cream and let us know if you want it every Saturday.
I do not have a basement or any such luxury of unused space for exercise equipment, and I am not complaining, but I do so prefer to shower at home.
It’s nice you’re riding again, and that your shower is AT HOME 🙂

  7. Sunday was the hottest I’ve ever sung in the Princeton chapel. We were melting. They have no AC – and we don’t have Mass or choir in the summer, but this is WAY past summer, and over 90. Not fun.

YUENGLING ICE CREAM?! I hope it’s better than their beer. Was that your come hither look for the Mister? I did not venture out yesterday but I did go to a Doctor this morning. It was a bit crisp at 8:30 not so much now. Clara has developed a minor addiction to chocolate covered cashews (Thank You Fresh Thyme). Butter beer may be rich but if I can find some I will try it out. Have a Happy week.

Not much a fan of lagers myself, but it’s ice cream, how bad can it be?!?
I do not have a come hither look. I just go yon when it pleases me. lol
It was nice at 8:30, I concur! 🙂 I have to take the dog out in a mo and I am not in the mood to bake while she stares at squirrels instead of doing the very thing she’s supposed to do!
I wonder if The Mister saw the chocolate covered cashews… Cashews are his fave. I think he’d eat chocolate covered anything, except maybe raspberries…
I hope everything went swell for you with doc, and I wish you a happy week as well 🙂

I am in complete agreement regarding their beer. I might as well be drinking water. I love this time of year because of the stouts and porters. Give me a beer that requires chewing before you swallow is ideal. Oh, and the choclolate covered cashews sound great. It combines two of my favorite things.

  9. I am not indulging in ice cream at the moment, although I do love chocolate flavoured! I don’t think you look bad at all with your Bonnie Blue styled hair. God knows what state I am going to end up in when I get to actually go on stuff in the gym on Thursday!

Lello rice…I used to say “lello” when I was little and couldn’t pronounce the Y’s.
It’s been hot, hot, hot here for several days, which bums me out because the A/C is constantly going and I’m not breathing much fresh air. I’m a fresh air girl. So, yesterday, I went to church, stopped at the store and went home to the A/C. Stupid Packers darn near gave me a heart attack again, but I managed to get out the Star Trek post in between.

The only ice cream I eat now is called “Nada Moo,” (no cow). It comes in a pint size, made with coconut milk and it’s not cheap, But it’s good! I have to be careful, I could eat the whole pint in one sitting, especially the mint chocolate chip. Yum.

I am a gym person when I want to be. I went for two weeks with no gym due to my schedule and laziness and then worked out with a trainer Saturday morning. I can barely walk today and sitting on the commode is painful. (Is that TMI?) Anyhow, I have to get back to being regular because otherwise this happens and it hurts.

I have no idea who won any games anywhere, because my television was set to Quantico all weekend, and as much as I hate Quantico, it’s better than football 😉 lol I’m sorry if your Packers lost, or if they came close to losing, or whatever caused you stress. I’m glad Star Trek post was a good distraction.
I’m going to keep an eye out for your Nada Moo, although I dunno why they don’t call it Nada Vaca or Nada Mu, I’m guessing they like Spanglish 😛 I, too, enjoy fun with language.
I don’t actually believe in TMI. If your bottom hurts on the potty, who am I to shame you for expressing that? That’s terrible, I hope it’s better soon!
I prefer getting exercise that feels like not going to the gym. You know, like actual walks in the world or swimming, but the gym is AIR-CONDITIONED and open all year, so you know, nice option when the ice cream and soda consumption is better than the weather.

  16. It was waayyyy too hot this weekend. I had to change my sweat drenched clothes after watching the soccer game. The hubby and I bopped downtown for a bit, but the heat was unappealing. I came home and promptly took a nap, which I rarely do.

I don’t shower at the gym, but I live very close to my gym so I haven’t found myself in a situation to need to do that.

Strange that a beer company used to make ice cream! No ice cream for me, but I did eat popsicles. I have a creamy coconut one that I like. Miss Sunshine must have ice cream or popsicles every day. 🙂

I’m 10 minutes from mine, but don’t think I’ll do the shower at the gym again. I really like to feel clean, not know I’m clean, but actually feeeeel it! I will say it kept my momentum goin. Moo couldn’t shower there, there’s not even enough water pressure to rinse my head thoroughly, let alone her thick locks.
The heat takes a lot out of me. If I’d been out long in it, I’d need a nap — but that’s common for me.
I support your coconut popsicle choice 😀

  18. You know it’s still hot here and as the AC people aren’t coming until tomorrow, we’ll have gone a record 4+ days of 90++ heat without AC. 😦 Naturally, it’s going to cool down after tomorrow. Sigh. Good news: we borrowed a box fan from friends that sits in the window of our (second-floor + hot) bedroom and sucks all that lovely, cool night air in so we can at least sleep.

I like to walk outside and then lift weights at the gym (although I’ve done weights in the basement often as well.) Today was intervals on the treadmill day, followed by a round on the weight machines, but no stretching. I had other things to do and places to go AFTER my shower AT HOME. I wouldn’t take a shower at the gym unless abso-positivo-lutely necessary.

Ice cream sounds delish, although I like vanilla, butter pecan, or something fruity if possible. Right now, I’m headed for ice cubes and more cold tea.

Really smart to avoid the gym showers, Janet. I don’t anticipate doing that again. As you say, only if unavoidable. It was NOT pleasant.
I so prefer to authentically exercise, but I do like climate control.
SO sorry yours is still out. SO sorry it’s still so hot!!! Thursday cool down here as well. Can’t come fast enough.
Enjoy your tea as best you can in the heat. :/ Have you considered letting the air vents in your vehicle give you some wind machine action? If you do, take a selfie for us 😉

  19. Your blown hair looks great…very natural. Yuengling is from my part of the world, I don’t like their beer, and so have yet to try their ice cream. I had a pint of Cherry Garcia this weekend. We ate cold chicken, cold veggies and dip, ciabatta with cold butter, cold adult beverages…usually my favorite summer meal, but I so look forward to casseroles, mashed with gravy, roast anything…come on, Autumn temps !!
I don’t do gyms…ever since 9th grade and community showers. Personal choice. I walk, a lot, and always before noon…cuts down on the home showers.

  20. Go back to the dream weekend and write more about that – I need the cool! It is so freaking hot, even this far north I am wilting. So, yeah, I had ice cream on the weekend and was barely able to eat it before it melted away down my arm and onto the blazing hot asphalt.

I think you look great in that photo! Ice cream. I JUST finished a draft of a blog post for my family history blog where I am posting a photo of the original ice cream scoop from my great-grandfather’s ice cream shop! The Zuidwegs are ice-cream-specialists from waaaay back. We also advocate baby spoons for eating ice cream–or iced tea spoons if you need the depth because they also have the little heads/scoops. All kinds of Zuidweg ice cream rituals.

You always look good to me. Sorry that the gym showers were the suck. It is better than hitting the store smelling like swamp ass though. I cannot wait for Thursday to get here and feel human when I step outside after lunch. Even my first break was hellish. Bring back the overnight lows in the 50’s please and thank you. I put my order in, but I guess reasonable weather is on back order.

We’ve had actual rain this summer, and right now it is 74 out there, and drizzly. … I’ve never been to a gym, and don’t plan on it ever. PE classes in gym were the worst, and I can still conjure up the sounds and smells of it. Blah! … Good photo, even if you did just come from the gym. 🙂
