#ThursdayDoors — Alley Up

Back of last week’s Pentalpha Lodge and the back of its across-the-alley neighbor.

The day I took these photos, it was hot and sticky. I remember my sweaty squint upward. It’s my pleasure to inform you I put on a hoodie and boots before leaving the house this morning.

#ThursdayDoors is part of an inspired post series run by Norm Frampton. To see other doors of interest, or to share your own, click the link and find the frog.

I love fire escapes! Thanks for sweating your way to get these, and lets raise a glass to hoodie weather!

Well that last step could be a killer. It is getting close to that time of year. Hoodies and sweaters. Before you know it there will be frost on the pumpkins.

You could have a sub-category of door photos dedicated to fire escapes. That’d be cool, just like the weather– FINALLY.

  4. Beautifully cool/chilly here this morning as well, Joey. Ain’t it grand? I’m just imagining if there were a fire, how fast I’d be running down those fire escapes!!

  5. Beautiful arched windows in that building, Joey. I don’t think I’d be too quick to venture onto that fire escape – unless tongues of fire were licking at my heels.

The stifling heat finally broke here overnight too; back to milder seasonal temps…sigh of relief 🙂
Those fire escapes bolted onto the sides of building make for nice patterns and shapes, especially if the doors and windows can be included in the shots. I enjoy them that way, from below, much more than actually using them.
    Nice shots Joey 🙂

Glad you like them. You definitely have an eye for them that I don’t. I’ve admired many of yours. I was surprised to see some. I spose I don’t alley often enough.

Still having a heat wave here, no hoodie for me. Wouldn’t have thought of fire escapes as doors but how clever of you. These are great ones.

  9. Great finds! I love fire escapes! I thought about photographing some when I was downtown last weekend, but as I peered at the distance I’d have to walk, the heat won out and I went home!
I’ve heard rumor that a cold front is coming this way. I’ll believe it when I see it. Glad it cooled off for you! 🙂

    I love hoodie weather 🙂
Even better if it never gets colder than hoodie weather … although in these parts I think the chances of that are non-existent.

Add me to the list of people who think exterior fire escapes are cool. I think Hollywood has managed to make the fire escape romantic 🙂

That’s good to hear. It has been delightful here, but we GBTT (going back to Texas) for the month of October, so back to hot…too hot…although San Antonio is currently cooler than it is here.

These kinds of outdoor fire escapes always remind of the movie A Hard Days Night – when the “lads” escape down one of them.

I like the upviews and I think my favorite takeaway – besides doors – was the ways the blue sky was woven into the photos – even in the windows in second pic – and then thinking of the sweltering heat….

Fire escapes always fascinated me! We don’t see such stairs in India…

We are still not coming out of rains in my city – I think we are going to skip straight to October heat and then into the chills of winter. Enjoy the fall 🙂

I like to see fire escapes, it makes you feel safe…they don’t have them externally in Dubai, buildings are too high. There are stairs, thank goodness…but having evacuated twice on fire alarms, both 30 plus flights up, it’s a long way down!

      I can only imagine!
I don’t know what the regulations are here, codes or whatever, but I don’t see fire escapes often and of course, the high buildings here are without them as well.

  18. Great fire escape finds with the doors! I also like the reflection in the window in the second image.
Speaking of hoodies. I want a nice black one, and haven’t found one like the one I want that I see in my head. Maybe this year I’ll finally find it!
