I honestly have no idea what’s gotten into this week, but it’s askew. And blurry.
Me: I think I’ll …
This Week: Actually, you’ll …
Me: Okay, but then …
This Week: No.
No, of course it’s not me. I’m right as rain.
Rain. I love rain.
It rained a lot here this week. It made me happy, except on Monday, when I took the interstate to the weird split where Pennsylvania meets Delaware and lefter is better, LEFT LEFT LEFT! The slopes of the left lanes were floody and my car was whooshy and my nerves screamed under my skin. When I parked, the skies closed.
On Tuesday, I needed red meat and in a particularly pleasant turn of events, my husband had already thought takeout sounded good, so he brought home noms.
We watched Nightmare on Elm Street and ate takeout at the coffee table.
Zero trick-or-treaters came to the Mottern house, even though The Mister bought FOURTEEN bags of candy.
Wednesday I thought I’d go to the store and clean house before Bubba showed up, and then The Mister said he wanted to go.
“You want to go? To the store?”
“With you.”
seriously, what is goin on?!?
So we went to the store together and I did not clean house and Bubba arrived and we yayed and played.
I thought I’d clean house yesterday, but I had to do some midday sleepin first, cause thank you, Five Am. When I woke up, I found out the young people were comin to the house and I needed to drink Pepsi and eat Milky Way bars way more than I needed to vacuum, so Bubba and Kiki and I sat in the dirty house and chatted before off they went to eat a late lunch because I had a pot of chili on the stove, of course.
Alone in the house, high on sugar and a whopping 35 milligrams of caffeine, I cleaned to spotless perfection. Moo came home, Bubba and Kiki returned, I picked Sassy up, Simon arrived.
We had a great night! Sassy and I agreed that was a lot of peopling on such short notice, but what a great night!
Y’all, I cannot tell I cleaned. Is too messy to see the clean.
This week has been askew, I tell ya. The disappointments I did not mention were made up for by more unexpected joys, pleasures, treats, and kindnesses, also not all mentioned.
Outside, the sun shines. Bubba plucks his guitar. Simon snores on my floor.
It’s really important to remember that our hopes and plans, big and small, are sometimes in the way of BETTER stuff.
This week did not go as I planned, not even once. The results were spectacular.
The best blurs out the rest.
Happy Friday Everyone!
What can possibly be wrong with take-out noms, the lovely company of others (pets included), and a clean-but-messy house? That is an awesome week, Joey, and I hope it continues into the weekend. Happy Friday!

Clean house always loses around here. I have much better ways of spending my time. On another note, I am trying to get a routine established now that I work outside the house. I’ve been doing it for over a month and it has eluded me so far. Working from home for 17 years was much easier!

Isn’t that the funniest thing? I know. Every time the standard schedule deviates, I readjust and work it out, but it does take a while, depending. When I worked I found myself doing laundry at night, and I’m not a fan of that, but it is what it is. Good luck in your adjustment 🙂

I’d rather do anything than clean ! Messy is different, with the kids grown, I kinda miss messy. I love your takeout dinner and movie time the best. No trick or treaters ??? Wow. Did you know that you can freeze much of that 14 bags of candy, especially chocolate? I agree, some of that unplanned stuff is golden, unexpected but golden.

It really was a week full of delightful surprises. My husband just told me he’s taking Sassy to the 7am tomorrow so he can get the oil changed in my car. I may cry of joy. LOL Like, I welled-up a bit.
I did NOT know that about the candy! It’s all versions of chocolate, so I reckon I’ll Google and see what freezes best.
I really thought with the influx of families, we’d get some, but nope. I saw the costumed across-the-street wee people hop into the car and leave. Honestly, my kids only trick-or-treated to that house because the lady decorated the outside. We, too, took our kids to a larger section of our community. Dead end streets aren’t candylands. 😛

Your week sounds good to me. Sure there was lots of peopling, but there were also good times with the peoples… so I’d take that as a win. Clean, tidy houses are overrated! Good memories are underrated. So says I.

It was good for the most part. About Tuesday, mid-afternoon, I had to just surrender and go with the flow. I was pleased with how well it worked out 🙂 Good memories are priceless! 🙂
Tidy houses are the battlegrounds of most parents. It looks worse now. I am trying to pretend it’s a holiday. LOL 😛

Hurrah for the blur!! Those are the days when most of my to-do list gets re-written onto the next day’s list and sometimes the day of that. So it goes. 🙂 Goin’ with the flow. Happy Friday and weekend to you, Joey.

I like weeks like your past week. We’ve been busier than a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest this week, mostly with doctor stuff.

I clean, and thirty seconds after my preciouses get home, it looks than when I started. So I gave up this week. Done. Over it. My plans were shot to hell this week too….but I took a two-hour nap Wednesday morning (we had nearly 700 kids Trick or Treat our hood Tuesday), and felt much more in line with whatever the rest of the week was going to bring. Oh, and I totally skipped Costco today. What sane person does Costco on a Friday anyways? Happy weekend!

I know. I feel like you really understand my conflicts over tidiness. It’s not the best part of motherhood, we know that much 😉
I used to have a hood like that, too. I feel for you. Such an EVENT! I’m sorry you had to surrender, but I hope yours goes as well as mine. May you have a beautiful, balanced weekend!

I’m so happy that your unexpected joys, pleasures, treats, and kindnesses outweighed the disappointments!
We get no trick-or-treaters ever.
My week was full of decision-making deadlines.I had some nice moments where the boys were actually home and we had real conversations. Some weeks that seems rare. Not much peopling outside of some of their friends popping in and out briefly.
My house finally found a trace of clean today…but not that kitchen. Making recipes every day makes lots of dirty dishes! I hate kitchen cleaning. I think it’s because it was my chore from the time I was 7. I cannot keep up. 🙂

I’m unaware of how many bags of candy you have left or at how fast you go through them, but I’m going to predict when we show up in two weeks, you’ll be down to two.

Well, we’ve had a lot of young people here the last two days … so I’d say we’re down to 6-7 bags.

Hmmm… well that is a mighty turn of events, but I think I’ll stick with 2 bags.

LOL if you want to figure out if something is important or not, imagine if they’ll put it in your obituary or on your headstone. (Maybe I’ve been spending too much time on the family history).

Oh yeah. Then the girls took some to school, and the boys shoved it in their pockets as they left, guests ate it, everyone ate candy every day and we’re down to three bags now. I predict that’ll be gone by week’s end.
One of Moo’s teachers wanted candy for donation, but sadly, she specified no chocolate or nuts.
