Do Not Adjust Your Speed

I work again now. That’s why I’m so sporadic here. Or everywhere, whatever. I’m not gonna blog about my job, but I’ll tell you it’s the same job I had before, not that that’s helpful, since I never wrote about my work, but if you were one of the people who knew my old job, my new job is like that, still non-disclosure-agreement-y. Yay! No introvert wants to blog about her job, BUT! I work twice as many hours and make four times as much money and I get to wear jeans every day which feels sooo naughty since I haven’t had a jean job since I was twenty-fuckin four.

Like I said, new field of practice — inundation of learning. Brain at max capacity. Whoosh.

I drink chamomile tea all day and I still come home wired for sound.

Except when I don’t, because sometimes I taxi people and parent away from home…

i’ve decided i’m okay with the internet seeing this much of my daughter before her formal

and this much of her swimming

…and then sometimes on top of work and momming, I gotta push around a grocery cart and when I get home, I just wanna flop my perfectly round ass down and eat a goddamned sammich in peace because I am only one woman!

img_4786.jpg

And why on earth was I eating pastrami? Why did I want red meat and brine? Cause the full moon in Gemini was so majestic, like any good witch would, I bled like the earth needed the iron.
What could be better than bleeding to death at one’s new job?

Margaritas.

jesss, margarita, come to mama

Then we had two birthdays, which meant five girls, two cakes, and a lot of ice cream. It was festive — all week festive! The wrapping paper stayed on the dining room table for DAYS. I walked by, cake in hand, for DAYS.

Birthdays with swim meets and a new job! Oh, and well checks for the teens, a new doctor and back-to-back appointments.

But wait, there’s more! The holidays are upon us and that means all the orchestra rehearsals and concerts, too! Handel’s Messiah, the Hallelujah Chorus, for one. Even we pagan heathen Unitarians love us some Hallelujah Chorus.

A relaxing weekend at home went well until I heeded my dryer’s buzz and smelled gas instead of soapy goodness. The leaky gas line has been capped and now we wait for repair. (Really The Mister waits, but you know we all want repair.) Until then, it’s space heaters and boiling water for baths. Monday morning made worse.

This week, every day but Friday has something booked, too. From what I’ve read, many of you are slammed as well.

This is all to say, I very much enjoy my life, however, it’s been BUSY BUSY BUSY!

I am glad your new job is going so well. Doing a job you like IS fun, no matter how hard it may be. Birthday cake is the best cake of all. Science says so. Margaritas and pastrami sounds like a winning menu to me. Again Science. Hope you have a good week.

Indeed. I like the work. Always have. It’s funny the way our paths twist and turn through careers in life. I’ve been told it’ll take about a month to get into the swing of things.
I love your scientific declarations! 😀
I sure hope this week is kind to you.

Mo money is a good thing, but jeans is great! Good luck getting the gas line fixified quickly. Pastrami is good at any point, any. Have a good week, and guard Friday’s spot on the calendar like your sanity depends on it.

Right? Like I told Norm, they could pay me less just for the part where I get to wear jeans! LOL
We have the line repaired and back on again, so I’m glad it’s over 🙂
I WILL GUARD THE FRIDAY. *pumps fist*

Thanks so much 🙂 I think I have about ten days until it calms down.
We now have heat, hot water, a new water heater, new main bathroom toilet innards, and on Saturday, I get a new kitchen faucet — so you know, at least we made the most of the situation.
Let’s hope the power lines don’t accelerate the tree trimming and felling situation. One can only bleed so much money per season! 😛

  7. What is it with gas lines lately? Yours is the third leaky one I’ve heard about in a month, after YEARS of no one mentioning that their gas line was misbehaving. Hmmm.

There one place where government regulation has kept people safe for years: natural gas is odor-free, but must have a smellly chemical (mercaptan – and I’m putting this here because I am so proud of my brain for not only remembering it but spelling it right when I’ve NEVER written it anywhere in my life) added for just the purpose of giving humans a warning.

Stay safe – enjoy the work – survive the loss of your time.

Welllll, in our case, our house is 97 years old, so we sort of expect stuff like this, although Sunday when it was 17 degrees wasn’t exactly ideal…
I made my kids go smell it so they could identify it if need be. I’m grateful to the brilliant mind who gave it a smell, and I’m grateful to the gas company for their prompt and dilligent service. And yes, I’m proud of you for remembering how to spell it, because earlier, I couldn’t remember what it was called beyond mer. Mercapa, mercapin, mercat… LOL
I’m so glad we’re warm and have nice hot waters now 🙂

      • I’m glad you’re warm and have hot water, too. Supposedly the stuff smells like rotten eggs. Did it?

Reporting a gas leak is seen as an emergency, as it should, because a stray electric or mechanical spark can set of a very large and destructive explosion – the gas, due to gas diffusion laws, penetrates everywhere it can get to until its density everywhere is uniform (or as close as it can get), so it will fill every nook and cranny, and can get anywhere without an impermeable barrier. Also, it will displace other gases such as oxygen that you need to breathe (can’t remember whether it is heavier or lighter this late at night, I’m afraid). Nasty stuff when not used properlly.

I wouldn’t say boiled eggs. It smelled more piquant to me, almost like kerosene or the fumes of WD40.
It was rather frightening. I’m glad we called. No one wants to spend gobs of money on stuff like that, but the alternative is bleak.
Our leak was in the crawlspace. We have all new lines now and the ancient originals are gone, making it even more secure.

Congrats? on the new old job. I get to wear jeans at my job too, but at my “real” job I wear pajamas. Wait, that sounds like a questionable job but really it is not.

I’m glad the chamomile helps you, too. It really does keep me on a lower, calmer setting.

  13. Sounds busy but good, except for the gas. If it makes you feel any better, my s-i-l’s furnace exploded and she’ll be without heat, for self or water, for at least several days and it’s been cold in their part of France. 😦

Busy here, yes, but getting a handle on Christmas, so that’s good. I’m so happy to hear about your job. Sounds hugely better than the last one, especially the salary part. I’m working part time, so only make somewhat over minimum wage, but such is part time life.

Good smells here today, as I’m making chicken stock. So delightful!! Happy Monday and have a wonderful week.

Dreadful news about your SIL’s furnace. 😦 No one likes to rough it. It was a morning out of whack around here, so I can imagine her inconvenience.
Thanks. I am really happy about working full-time again, glad for my year of part-time, brushing up on my skills — but ready for more. I’d hoped the responsibilities and hours at my last job would grow in the year I did, but that was not the case.
Mmm, chicken stock sounds so good! Would’ve sounded even better last night when we were still cold! 😛
I hope you have a great week 😀

  20. Wow! That does sound busy, busy, busy. Congrats on the new job. I’m glad you love it! Jeans everyday is awesome. They may be one of my favorite articles of clothing. Mmmm…. cakes AND upcoming concerts…sounds like an awesome time of the year. Miss Sunshine has already asked me when we will being our annual sweets making. They start winter break the middle of next week. I may look like a hibernating bear once we crawl out from the sugar coma that we will create. 🙂

Wow, such a busy, busy joey you are! No wonder you went on the pastram. I reubened my lunch the other day, myself. Mmmmmmm…. This place where Mom is living now has gooooood food. And, because she is on tube feeds but is paying for meals, I’ve talked them into giving ME free meals when I visit. So good food I don’t have to cook or clean up after. It just doesn’t get any better than that. Except mojitos. You do margaritas and I’ll have all the mojitos.

Mojitos are more agreeable to me, margaritas are celebratory, because tequila means I need adult supervision 😉

I love the two beautiful wintery pictures of the animal cuddlers. Would like to know more about them, me being a Franciscan Episcopalian who loves pagan stuff like that.
