Tortillas
Bunny breads

Words six, seven, and eight on the paper closest to me? My SoCS is based on a grocery list, of course!

We need tortillas because The Mister is going to try his hand at chicken quesadillas tomorrow. His wife mentioned that perhaps someone other than she should think about dinner prep now and again and not just expect these things to appear. He found her reasonable and she found him accommodating and they shall continue on their journey to happily ever after.
Also, tacos next week.

Bunny breads are very important. Bunny bread is a brand. We buy the wheat loaf for $1.69. It isn’t as good for you or as cheap as homemade, but it’s comparable to any other wheat bread a la crap.
I recently discovered that in Carmel, land of roundabouts, there is no Bunny bread. They’ve no need for cheap bread, I suppose. In a way, I feel badly for thrifty moms who don’t know about cheap bread in the city. How sad.

But Imma tell you about baking soda, too. We need baking soda because the girls are gonna put their trainers in the wash today, and that will use all the baking soda in the house and lemme tell you, I keep that well-stocked.
Hey, they could be doing this now. Hang on, Imma holler.
Okay so Sassy’s shoes smell awful. Her shoes smell like they lived in an athlete’s shoe, but really, they just live on the athlete’s feet. They smell so strongly of foot and sweat and chlorine that it gags me when she gets in the car. HORK! If you have anxiety disorder, and pee while Sassy’s in the shower, you may worry about the state of your urine, or your nethers, or your armpits — until you see her shoes there, emitting the dank, acrid smell of success.
And poor Moo, a cat threw up on one of her shoes. I suspect Catticus, for he is a great lover of both shoes and Moo, though I would say in that order.

Lastly Imma throw you a Pro-Mom tip on shopping expediently:

IMG_5093

Cut the list into sections and provide each member of your family (or pairing if they’re small-like) and have everyone get what’s on their section and meet up front. Yes, it’ll take you a few extra minutes to list, but it will save you 30+ minutes at the store.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I know there are 109 unread blog posts in my email, but I must make myself presentable, eat Cracker Barrel, grocery shop, and head to The Palace of Rules. Thank you and have a great day!

The Palace of Rules? Where the Ruler lives? I gotta avoid that trap like poison. Rules are more like … guidelines, unless I lay them down. Then they’re CARVED IN STONE. I hate divvying up the shopping, although Charlie insists. I’m always afraid I’ll miss something good in the part he looks at.

That’s funny about shopping and worrying about missing something! Now I remember you’re in the list of people who enjoy the grocery 🙂
The Palace of Rules is what I call the home of my in-laws. They call me the bitch in their china shop 😉 Cept they don’t say bitch hardly ever, cause Jesus.

I like your list words! We sadly don’t get Bunny Bread here, but used to, and it was good. You have very nice handwriting! Mine grocery lists, or any list, is usually a mess, with scratch outs and stuff. Enjoy your Saturday! 🙂

We have a Bunny Bread thrift store here in town. How many loaves you want me to ship to you? 😀

Never divided shopping. Had help occasionally but not dividing the list, just adding as they went along. I continue to learn new things from you. Sadly, my kids are all grown so I can’t put the new things I’m learning into practice. Happy Saturday.

Good idea about dividing the list, but I would secretly only put the really-most-foodproof stuff on the list part to give to my husband, since somehow he just doesn’t get it right sometimes and i don’t want to feel cranky at him when he tries. If he justtakes the list while i browse for something, he misses the improtant stuff, winds up with all kinds of weird expensivestuff that we don’t eat, and does the frozen first so it thaws out, and I get cranky. I am really trying to reduce cranky triggers lately.

I giggled a bit at that. You’re fussy about it, as we’re all fussy about somethin here or there, aren’t we? For instance, I wouldn’t like my frozen stuff going in first, either. That’s upsetting. :/

After I finished gagging at the thought of those shoes, I noticed you have incredibly cool handwriting. It’s so pretty!
I know not of this Bunny bread, but then I don’t eat gluten, so…

Well I just know the Bunny bread is loaded with gluten, so don’t get into it, Mary. Sorry about the HORKY shoe bit, but thanks about the handwriting. My post about handwriting is still in my top posts every week.

I’ve never heard of Bunny Bread – I don’t know that it exists up here. I was wondering, however, how many “off-list” items ended up in carts at the end of the grocery shopping expedition. I can’t imagine trying this with Kevin!

We are a list people. Occasionally, if a good deal is offered, extras can go in, but since we’ve always been 4, and were for a long time 6, we have always kept a strict grocery budget.
I have a girlfriend whose husband shops crazy, comes home with all kinds of junk food and parts of meals, not the basics.

  8. Your husband may have been the military person in the family, but you certainly know how to keep a family on track. Hope the shoes came out smelling sweet. 🙂

Judy, you cannot know how happy your comment makes me, on behalf of all military wives. We are industrious, resourceful women who know how to make the most of everything. Thank you so much.

  9. “That’s what I said, Bunny Bread.” Holy moly, Batman, although I’ve never had Bunny Bread, I know that line and the music that goes with it from somewhere in my distant past, so I’m LOVING that bit of your post. I second the baking soda for stinky shoes. It works and is inexpensive as well. Oh, my, what fun! 🙂

  10. “He found her reasonable and she found him accommodating and they shall continue on their journey to happily ever after.” Had to chuckle, good line. You sound very well organized. Me I might go into the store and it could be hit and miss. 😉 Grocery shopping I do not like. Now that the kids are grown we are happy with Trader Joes Chinese Egg Rolls some nights. 😀

When the boys were young and I had to take them grocery shopping with me, I used to do the same thing! They treated it like a treasure hunt, and I got to shop without 2 bored kids whining at me 🙂

I’ve been doing that split up list thing with the gardener lately in our monthly shopping (that’s the big trip). I give him all the heavy stuff and none of the complicated stuff that he’ll screw up.

First, I read it as food for bunnies.

Dividing shopping with me is not a good idea, unless you charge me for extra items. If you give me a list of 5 items, I will bring 12 to the front.

I’m just now catching up with the pile of blogs to read today. I feel bad, but it was a busy busy day.

  16. Handing everyone a piece of the list sounds pretty efficient. At least it wasn’t Bunny — bred.

Yep on the divided list. Did it with the four kids and me. Took about 15 minutes for the five of us. Still do that with bro and hubby. It takes a little longer but still gets the job done faster. I write the list in the order of the store so just tear it accordingly.

great idea to split the list (and we might have mentioned this before – but don’t forget baking soda’s best friend: borax – we use this combo in shoes and laundry. oh and I have been adding white vinegar to some loads – someone told me to try that for the softener but I use it instead of bleach for some items – and it adds a boost.

    oh and lol to this:
    wheat bread a la crap

Yes, cause I like borax for ants 🙂 — and laundry, and toilets, and well, a lot of things.
I do the vinegar in my dark clothes, it’s supposed to help them hold their color. I wouldn’t know if it works, since I have no control group!
      Thanks!

ahhh – yes – thanks for the reminder – and I did not know about the color preserving and vinegar – but it makes sense.
and I heard it softens clothes too – some lady was in target – buying all these towels and she gave me the 411.
        and laughing at “no control”

  19. You have lovely handwriting. I don’t mine is a bit messy.

We split up the shopping a bit differently than you guys. He-Man does 99% the Costco shopping, and I do the grocery store run for the few things we like there that we can’t or don’t want to buy in bulk at Costco. It works for me cause the stuff from Costco is usually heavy, and I can’t impulse buy if I’m not there. 🙂 I do a lot of ” oooh lookie there I want that!” and into the cart it goes when in Costco. The bill is atrocious when I shop at Costco from all the extras neat stuff I find there.

Baking soda- I use it in my whites laundry load, and as my facial exfoliate every morning. Love it!
I wonder if it would work to remove the stink from rubber garden clogs of soaked for a bit? I am familiar with the stink you’re describing in shoes. #1 Grandson’s feet, and rubber garden clogs get that way. It’s so bad he’s been banned from rubber garden clogs much to his chagrin. He loved his Spiderman light up garden clogs.

I rarely hand write my shopping lists anymore. I have been using my cell phone’s notepad for years now. I even type the Costco list into He-Man’s notepad on his cell phone. I was a bit – hum, cocked my head kinda sideways looking at your shopping list when I saw you have waffles/lasagna together. How are they together? I’m sure there’s a Joey story there. “)
I tend to list the items I need by where they are in the store then plan my the route. I don’t tend to impulse shop in the grocery store. I just want in and out of there. Occasionally I run into someone and chat for a bit, but other than that it’s in and out.
With the flu being so bad this year I have started using ecart so I don’t have to go in at. all. 🙂

It’s clever how you divide and conquer, too. I do tend to ask The Mister to pick up the heavies. The cat litter and pet food are enough to make me feel like I’m pushing a dumptruck! lol
I put lasagna and waffles together because they’re both frozen. I sort how things are in the store. This week, Moo will put the lasagna in the oven, slice the bread, and make a salad, and I’ll enjoy dinner earlier 🙂
Amazon Prime is my bff. (Shh, don’t tell my bff!)
Thank you for your commentary on my handwriting. My handwriting post is one of my top posts every week and it’s rather old.
About #1Grandson’s clogs, I can only relate to the kids’ Crocs. When we lived in Georgia, they wore Crocs all the time. I would absolutely try baking soda on them, maybe even make a paste to draw the stench out. Also, dry in the sun. We’re so indoorsy as a society, we forget the sun kills germs.
