Won’t it be nice when my morning blog time comes with sunlight?
I’m so tired I almost cried about how tired I am. Now Mary J. Blige is in my head, “well i’m not gonna cry, i’m not gonna cry, i’m not gon shed no tears…” and I’m like it’s okay mary, we can try that whole sleep thing again tonight.
While my whole family’s at home today, I’ll be at work. I haven’t looked into the other holidays on my work calendar, but in general, no MLK Day means also no President’s Day and no other People-Don’t-Actually-Celebrate-These-Days days. I’m in the group like, ain’t no mail runnin, ain’t no banks open, ain’t no court in session, i could sleep til 9…and dang it’s a long time til memorial day…Ā for I enjoy my work, but my family is not there.
If you have the day off, please enjoy it extra for me. Pet your animals, read a book, organize somethin.

Joey, I’m sorry for the sleeplessness and tiredness. I’m off today, but I’d rather be at work because there’s a ton of stuff for me to do in preparation of an office move next week. Then again, it’s nice to be inside, in my jammies, while it snows outside. I hope you get some good sleep tonight and wake up refreshed for your Tuesday.

Working too, both at home and at Michaels. Extra sale today so it will be busy. I’m about ready to hang it up because I got too used to staying at home! I have no kids at home, just the hubs but I miss the freedom of planning my own days.

It’s MUCH easier to work knowing your family is working/schooling too. Today I pined for them, and my furbabies.

Take care of yourself. Working outside the home means you have to give up some of your treasured home methods. This also means you no longer do EVERYTHING. Drop your standards, or you will burn yourself out.
If the family isn’t helping more, you might benefit from sitting them down and telling them what they get from you working (more money, a less-stressed mom most of the time because she is getting some satisfaction and some outside validation from people who don’t take her for granted, etc.), and handing out the responsibilities you used to assume.
A family can’t have everything. But they can want it. Until you point out that having mom go back to work is part of growing up and becoming responsible for yourself, a necessary step for kids. And other inhabitants of the family manse (except for pets, who cannot feed and walk themselves).
Then enjoy that you are no longer responsible for all of that. I never did laundry for them after the kids got big enough to use the washer and dryer safely. Mine all cook (and laugh at kids who got to college without either skill).

I've said all this and more. (More bitchy at times!) Especially the bit about kids at college who'd never cooked, cleaned, laundered, swept… NOT raisin those people.
Everyone is doing more and I do less, but it's been a slow adjustment. I feel it's crucial, at this time in my/our lives that I not be a martyr to their needs. They're all very big now. It's been a long time coming, and just like the move back 'home' they've been prepped for it slowly and steadily since they could understand. They do cook and bake and do laundry and they're fairly good at all the housework. I prefer to focus my attention on them and not the house now. I am not a housewife. I deserve this, I really do.

We also slept poorly last night, and then slept a little later in the morning. I hope you get good sleep soon, since it makes everything better to have it and worse to not have it.

Sorry you had to work. We had the day off. I was relieved since I had a restless night of sleep. We lazed around and then the hubby and I went to lunch. Came back to a burnt smell. Finally tracked it down to the heat. HVAC guys come tomorrow. Oh Joy. Hope you had a great day despite the work!

I work for myself now but when I was working for the man (so to speak), I never got MLK day off (and I’m in an ultra liberal state) but many of my co-workers would take the day off. I enjoyed the relatively easy commute and the quiet of the office!

I’m with you on the inconsistency issue. Establish a definite criteria for closing schools, then stick with it. Around here, schools are open or closed, it would seem, depending on educator whims and squirrel farts. Granted school closings don’t affect me directly, but I like to know… so I’ll know who to expect traipsing across our front yard and when they’ll be doing it.

They mess up the snow and I like that. My only concern is their safety when they’re all bundled up, and drivers are maybe paying more attention to the road than kids traipsing along the sides of it. We have no sidewalks here.

I am so happy it’s not dark at 5pm anymore. Longer days are comin!
I know how you’re feeling. I’m going to be too early cause it’s so dark out, but find I’m wide awake and ready to go at 3am! It’s so annoying. I need to stay up later. Waking up at 4 is much better than 3am!

It’s only been the last 20 years or so that I have been getting up earlier than noon! Really, ask anyone in my family. My children were/are exactly the same as me. Baby Girl still will sleep til noon on the week-ends if allowed, but Big Baby Boy now in his mid 30’s…Good Lord, how am I the Mother of child in his mid 30’s?!!! I’m still not over the fact that he turned 10 and double digits, and HELLO! In my soul I’m not a day over 24 thank you very much!
Anyway, getting back on track…he’s getting up early for a few years now. So, he’s turning out to be like me. I have been wondering if Baby Girl will start getting up and needing less sleep in her mid 30’s but I have nearly 8 yrs to wait to find out.
My two are very nearly 8 yrs to the day apart in age. I was not a two baby Mama. I knew my limits. Always have actually. š

Double digits is a really big deal. Had I been willing to drive a 9-passenger van and had the stork brought my babies, I’da had twice as many! lol
