In Conclusion, Rambly Jot

Oh, Go Jot Yourself!

jjj-2018

Sorry, I should never let my uterus speak for me.
At least I’m not pregnant. Or, you know, a man. *shudder*

Tuesday wasn’t bad.
After coffee at home, I had coffee at work. We have one of those wretched K things at work, and no surprise, it displeases me. Somehow the coffee comes out twice as acidic, half as rich, and extremely bitter. I dunno. No likey the thing. I discussed this with a friend over the weekend, and she not only told me what K coffees I like to drink at her house, but also gave me additional labels to sample.
I especially liked the Starbucks French Roast. Course, it’s not decaf, so just the one cup. I drank all five samples today. “No coffee, no workee.” I bought my mother a mug with that on it when I was a teenager. I looked — I couldn’t find that particular Boynton mug on Google, but I found this one for Ally Bean.

5157fdaafc17c03589fc2fb51a6ef6a4--sandra-boynton-dont-let

At work, I drink my coffee and tea from a mug Big Boss Lady crafted with her own two hands. It’s quite nice. I keep thinking I’ll find a mug I want to take to work, because that seems like something I should do, cept it’ll have to be better than that mug. Hand-thrown and glazed, muted earthy color, nice deep handle… She considers it a reject because it’s cracked. I revel in this imperfection, as I have many cracks myself. I have a low-key attachment to the mug. I have always been this picky about coffee mugs.

I also eat oatmeal at work in the morning. In a yellow bowl. It’s not handmade, but I have an affection for it, because, well, it’s lello.
My coworker eats oatmeal every morning, too. Like my husband, he really only likes the brown kind. I like it too, but I like the red one as well, so I eat red so he can eat more brown. Do y’all have that? I mean, I know what the flavors are, but my family likes the brown oatmeal and the brown Pop-Tarts and the green cereal bars. *shrugs*
My husband also eats oatmeal at work every morning. Do any of you?
The Mister works for a huge multi-billion dollar corporation, so they don’t buy his oatmeal. I work at one of ‘five-locations’ and Big Boss Lady buys our oatmeal. Go figure.

I went out for lunch and the sun was out. I liked it. It felt meaningful. The cold wind has been cruel lately, and that warm sun on my face was a pleasant contrast. I ate homophobic chicken and a cup of coconut yogurt and raisins.

Later, I left work on time. I don’t know if you leave your work on time, but I bout never do. I arrive early and leave late. I have one of those dreadful work ethics people go on about. I hate leaving things unfinished and it seems the people who call right before closing are the sort of people who have stories to tell. Sometimes this elicits paperwork. But not this Tuesday!

I drove home IN THE DAYLIGHT and without incident.

Moo baked potatoes. My parents were civil engineers and we ate a lot of potatoes in the winter. Bakers. It stuck. I’m not sure there are baked potatoes big enough to not make me want to eat more of them, so I guess it’s good they’re filling.

Sassy, injured ankle and all, fell asleep on me after dinner.

Plenty of good things for a Tuesday.
None of them as good as slipping back into sleep with The Mister, another Tuesday put to bed.

This post concludes my Just Jot It January for 2018 — Thank you so much for joining me, and thank you to LindaGHill for hosting.

Let’s get over this hump and into doors and kittens, shall we?

Yay for you and Just Jot it January! That is a whole lotta’ writing to do. My husband salutes you–he eats a bowl of oatmeal every single morning. I cannot get over the texture….mush. Oh, well. To each his own. I’m a crunchy granola girl, myself.

I don’t eat oatmeal. The Mrs does and tells me I should, but childhood trauma or something. It’s not gonna happen. Special-K is close enough. Actually, today it was two donuts, but…

Glad you had a good Tuesday. 3 1/2 hours and it’s all down hill for this week. 15 1/2 hours and we can scratch another January off the list.

I kinda like a bit of oatmeal, but not daily…
And we sometimes classify foods in our own way too.. e.g. Madeira cake, to the kids is lovely bread!

Thanks of thinking of me with the coffee mug pic. Oddly enough, years ago when I was first out of college, I was a sales rep selling Sandra Boynton merchandise. Go figure.

I like oatmeal, but can honestly say that I’ve never given it the amount of attention and thought that you have in this post. Perhaps that is why I’ve never tried to do Just Jot It January. Good on you for making it through another January challenge. 👏

IIIIIII thoroughly enjoyed your jot it january, even on the days you didnt have much to say. 🙂

As silly as it sounds, I have a daffy duck fork Ive had since I was a very small person that I eat with regularly. Its too short, and silly, but its MINE, and I like it. After that, I really dont have a dish preference. Besides my thermos (thermi? wth is the plural for that anyway??) I have a thermos for coffee, and another for everything else.
I should eat more oatmeal. I havent had it in ages, and recall enjoying it a lot.
    Happy humpday joey.

  7. Someday, I’d like to have an actual set of mugs. Mine are a loose collection of graphic things, but they’re all huge. My current favorites are one with a Game of Thrones saying, and my Lisa Burton mug. Hope you have a good one today. We’re having a contest about who gets the most batshit crazy phone call. It’s a super blue blood eclipse moon thing today.

I used to have six white Starbucks mugs. Now I have three. I used to have I don’t know how many Fiesta mugs, however many I had, I have fewer now. HATE Fiesta mugs. Awful for coffee and tea, nice for a dish of snack. It’s the handles. All of em, lol. Now it’s those randos and graphics for each of us. I think after using this mug at work, I’m leaning pretty heavy toward handmade.
I wish I’d been in the batshit crazy phone call contest. I think I’ll message you mine.

  8. I read the line above: ‘I ate homophobic chicken’ and am wondering. Usually I get things – but this reference escapes me. What am I missing?

I write thousands of words a day in various ways, but the fiction ones are the hardest. I owe myself several blog posts, as well – and I’ve stated about ten of them.

I have to finish my dad’s last tax return, and get it into the mail, and then do Mother’s, and I hope the intestinal cramps are not psychological. A few little lines – I’ve done the math and now just need to check it, get a clean copy, and figure out where tax returns for citizens living abroad go (I think a special office in Philadelphia), and DO IT.

Enjoy your oatmeal and potatoes – I don’t eat carbs any more, but a nice roasted potato skin with lots of cheddar cheese, bacon, and sour cream would fit my diet. Hmmm.

I can’t explain homophobic chicken, on principle, but you could always Google that chit 😉

I do not enjoy the maths. I am glad there are people like you who don’t get baffled by it. I do know the IRS address by heart, but not the special one.

      • Got it. I knew some of the background, and suspected that was it, but am not going to spend time on things like that if I can possibly help it! Not if anyone wants the next book, and there are at least three people who claim to.

The special address turned out to be in Austin. The IRS website is incredibly hard to find things on, but it eventually yields forms and instructions, you fill them in, and hope it’s right.

  10. You did it, Joey! Happy over-the-hump day to you as well. I have a Boyton mug that says “The cat’s pajamas” on it and has a picture of a cat in pj’s (naturally.) As we used that expression when I was growing up, I love the mug. I, too, have a dreadful work ethic which makes me actually work when I’m at work, finding things that need to be done even when it’s slow. Is that weird or what?? I wonder what I think they’re paying me for. Some of my co-workers (most quite a lot younger) have expressed amazement that I’m always working. Well, duh!! That’s why it’s called “work” not “just do what you have to.” However, most of them work harder when I’m there, so that’s a good thing. 🙂

    Have a most marvelous Wednesday!!

What’s the difference between the red and brown oatmeal? Is the brown “brown sugar and cinnamon”? Mary cooks up oatmeal in the Instant Pot and makes enough so that she can refrigerate most of it and heat it up as required.

    It’s been a fun JJJ!

  14. What’s red oatmeal, and a homophobic chicken? ROFL! I like brown oatmeal. I never thought about its color, but I have its texture. I like steel cut oats the best, but they take sooo long to cook. I have gone through spells where I’ve planned better and set them up to slow cook overnight on the stove top. Mostly I eat the 2 minute microwave packets of oatmeal.
I alternate between oatmeal and cream of wheat. I love them both.

Right now my favorite tea cup isn’t a cup it’s a mug. A big one. 31 Watercolors, 31 Days it says. I like it cause it’s big; nearly a two cuppa big, and I actually participated in the challenge. I didn’t do all 31 days, but enough of them that I felt I could reward myself.

I’m glad you had a good Tuesday! I hope today is a good one too.

I’m an oatmealer, too. I recently bought “instant” steel cut oats to eat at work. A disaster. You have to microwave them and before you reach the allotted minute thirty seconds they explode everywhere. I’ve tried reducing the time, letting them sit in hot water for a while and ick. Going back to the instant. The red ones. I add dried cranberries or my new favourite dried cherries and a tsp of honey.

You had a pretty darn good Tuesday considering your Tuesday antipathy.

Instant just works for me. I make the steel cut at home sometimes, load it up, but for a quick hot breakfast in a microwave — instant oatmeal is tops. Glad you like the red, too 🙂

Nicely done, Joey. Glad your Tuesday finished up satisfactorily. I am a bit unsure about the red and brown oatmeal and the homophobic chicken too. Perhaps I don’t get out much. When I was working I don’t remember ever having a break room, or microwave, or even being able to snack at work. We got a lunch time, but we had to go elsewhere. Guess that was the old days, or I just didn’t work at places where that happened. … Mugs and oatmeal! I have to use my Alien mug every day, nothing else would work as well. We eat stove cooked oatmeal, and vary it with grits, and cream of wheat. Yum! 🙂 Congrats on finishing the challenge!

Glad to hear that Tuesday wasn’t bad!
I do like oatmeal, but not flavored ones. They are much too sweet for me. Sometimes I have it with orange blossom honey, sometimes fresh fruit. We do have K cups. I bought it for the hubby as a present a few years back. Now, we have the dilemma of me wanting to reduce waste. I bought a reusable cup…with a filter it was much too weak and without the filter it was grinds galore. We often do the Starbuck’s French Roast, but I like Sumatra even more. I have certain mugs in my cabinet that I prefer. 🙂

Congrats on finishing Just Jot It January, Joey! And yes to doors and KITTENS. Those two things are far better than acidic coffee from a K-cup. I bought a refillable plastic cup and put my own low acidic coffee in it. Tastes much better than any of the pre-packaged cups. You might want to give that a try if you have a favorite ground coffee.

I eat Oatmeal during the fall and winter. Cheerios during spring and summer. There’s just something very comforting about hot oatmeal on a cold day. I get plain quick oats then add raisins and cinnamon. Maple is way too sweet for me.

I am afraid I might have to cut back to one cup of decaf per day. I like mugs. I had a favorite one for work. Some klutz bartender broke it. It was a Las Vegas Sands mug circa 1970 something. I need more oatmeal in my diet. Brown please. With brown sugar. Never heard of colored oatmeal. Hub’s corp is big possibly because they are tight like that. You done good with your Jotting. Each day is getting 1 hour longer. That’s a good thing. I guess.

See… I almost took my new decaf mug to work. My bestie bought me that for Yule. And she bought it more or less to make up for the fact that other STAY CALM and CARRY ON mug broke, and other bestie had given me that one. So what if I took new Stay Calm mug to work and someone broke it?!? I do think about these things. I do.
Even one cup of decaf gettin to ya these days?
The oatmeal colors refer to the Quaker packaging. Brown is maple brown sugar and red is cinnamon spice.

    Hi J –
well I had to come back at the end of your Jot it january to give you my little thanks (the one I mentioned a while ago before my blog break) – well I decided not to email the thanks cos I want to leave it right here on your blog – cos this is what I want to thank you for.
I enjoyed your January posts – the variety – the typical Joey stuff – and when the handwriting post emerged it felt like some of this was customized or hand-picked for me – well for me and at least 200 of your other followers.
    lol

I also had to say thanks – because of your mentioning of Monk – I was able to indulge in my some reruns and that was a complete delight. such a gift .

so who knows how bloggers impact the lives of their readers – I am sure many times we will not see the ripples – or as readers we do not even notice right away (or ever)
but other times we notice and so with your Jotting in thru January – it jammed for me –
and that was what my “thanks” was all about….

be back with comment #2 next (to just piggy back on something in this post)

oh my pleasure on the Lysine –
and just FYI – a new favorite is this Acetyl L-carnitine
I have been wanting to try it for years – but a lot of these goodies cost a handful and it adds up- anyhow – it was on my list to try – so when Trader Joe’s had it for five dollars – last June – I tried it and Joey – my brain LOVED it. My memory felt sharper after one week and I was driving my son somewhere and did not need the GPS – long story – but my body needed it – and that is key because my older sister needed GABA and it did nada for me. She does not feel balanced without her GABA.
Anyhow, I have been taking Acetyl L-carnitine daily since June – the acetyl means it crosses the blood brain barrier….
Well a few months ago – I found that wal-mart sells a version – from spring valley – that had alpha lipoic acid (ALA) in it – and it is 8 dollars – and I love it. I guess for years now people have been combining these two items for immune support- brain support – and antiviral – and the ALA is supposed to be free radical scavenger.
I take it early in day with a meal – ok- had to share that!!
and you are right- who knows what posts will be a big hit…
but that is also a very hot topic right now….
and I am curious to see what happens in schools.
        oh and with Monk…
one of my very favorite episodes is Mr. Monk is best man – but I wonder if you have to see “many” episodes to appreciate it.
Or it appealed to me because of things I like – like Randy’s music, the flower lady, the love, Natalie’s speech about marrying her guy even if she knew it would be a few seconds (something like that) and just so many things. __
okay – whew – sorry to ramble – hope you have a nice rest of your weekend and TTYS

    “No coffee, no workee.”
oh and have you ever heard about a touch of baking soda in coffee to cut the acid? Tried it recently and it works (on some coffees)

and lastly – love potatoes and hope I can always have some in my life –
however, oatmeal is one of those grains that I think some people cannot really digest but do not realize it.
I am pretty new to much of this intestinal health crap…
but just wanted to drop the idea to reconsider oatmeal – it really wreaks havoc in the gut and the myth that it is “health food” is not really supported. I know this sounds crazy – but just wanted to share – even the hearty old fashioned oats offer little nutritive value -0 and after I share this I wil never mention it again – ok?

but mary vance wrote about it well:
“whole grains can be very irritating to your GI tract due to the lectins and phytic acid, which contribute to more inflammation.”
    and
“Here is what happens when you eat a grain-based meal with refined sugar: because there is little protein and fiber in this meal, the grains break down quickly into sugars, and the refined sugar is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream, raising blood glucose levels, and triggering the pancreas to release insulin to move the glucose into cells so blood sugar doesn’t rise too high.”

ahhh – I am trying to get more ACV in my diet…
and laughing at the K machine comment – cos I also wonder about the extra plastic we are exposed to each time we brew that cup.
Not to sound alarmist – but some folks have argued that the more food comes into contact with plastics the more it absorbs some of the chemicals – right? makes sense and I know some folks who say “don’t care”
and I get that – but because it is the sum of the parts –
well – maybe just brewing an old fashioned pot of coffee is less plastic exposure too….

I just don’t like the K coffee. I don’t like the waste, the process, the wait, the cost – I like brewed coffee or pressed.
