Obvs and Wins

If you’d been stalking me throughout this week, you’da been massively entertained. I was nearly massively entertained myself, cept I kept yawning. Every morning this week has been me sitting in bed staring at the trees, my sleep center all, bitch, you know it ain’t no 7:00, this feels like 6. I abhor time change and it’s worse in the spring. What time is it really? Is it really this time and the other time was a lie? It is, isn’t it?

me too, zerd-guana

I didn’t have downs this week, I only had ups and weirdness. I’d like to share all the details with you as a three-dimensional, in living color, animated me, but I can’t, so I’ll share the bloggable bits here.

Last summer, I tried to return some cello strings to the music store by carrying in the bag of light bulbs I needed to return elsewhere. We all had a good laugh about it, and one clerk said, “Yep, so that just happened. I can’t believe that really just happened.”

My life lately? A lot of me doin impressions of that guy at the music store.

Have you ever left a bag at the grocery store? I did. Moo asked for the following meals, and I quote:
“Potatoes and onions with meat in the red thing,” and “the chicken with the stuff and the leafs on top.”
For that, one needs salsa. Bought it; didn’t have it. Didn’t have the new bottle of maple syrup on breakfast night. Don’t have the pound of coffee I bought that day, either.
FYI, chicken with the stuff and the leaves is not nearly as tasty without salsa.

Our kid told us the banquet was a dress-up event. Made a big deal about us all dressing up. We all dressed up. The boy one put on a handsome shirt and almost died. For no good reason whatsoever. Just us round-table Motterns sittin like some sorta well-dressed, sad cult. Tsk.

You know what’s awkward? When your kid thinks she told you what time to pick her up and she calls and asks, “Are you here? I don’t see you.”
“No, but Daddy can be there very quickly.”
Because “First we play and then we get an hour of instruction and then we go home,” is not an answer.
The unknowable is real, merely undefined.

Googled a place. Said place is on a street we’ll call Lido. I said to The Mister, “Isn’t Lido street familiar?”
“Yes.”
“It’s here isn’t it? Right around here somewhere isn’t it?”
“I think so. Where do I know that from? I can’t place it.”
I looked it up.
“Heh. It’s literally that street beside the thing,” I showed him the map.
We LOLed.
We have driven on Lido street thousands of times, maybe even tens of thousands. And yes, it’s right around here. Now it’s gonna be a game I play with local people. “Ever heard of Lido street? Do you know where it is?” Mind. Blown.

she still can’t believe it

Moo, like someone’s disenfranchised granny, was hoarding her medicines to make them last longer. Now that she knows about refills, she’s decided she’s worth slathering cream and taking a pill every day. It’s amazing what you have to tell people. Parents, do not stop to think about all the things you’re responsible for teaching. You don’t have time. You have to cram it all in there. “Make the cookies last, but use the medicine as prescribed.” You have to tell them that. How else would they know?

My mother lost a recipe in Hurricane Irma. That’s her story. I need to email her a recipe because ever since the hurricane, she can’t find it. Interesting premise, isn’t it? Hurricanes ransacking homes for valuables and meaningful goods. Your house looks livable after the hurricane, but you’re actually missing a recipe, an embroidered hankie, and one of your favorite books. It happens all the time when you move house, why not in a hurricane? Put down the scissors and run with that.

Oh my word, this was fun to read! What a week, huh? Gorgeous photos of the pets, and I really LOLed reading about the recipe thief called Irma! Wishing you and your family a fabulous weekend! 🙂

  2. Now that’s a week one can be proud of.

And yes, the young have to be taught how to take care of themselves in a complex society. I cry for the kids who have no grownup to do this for them.

Sounds like it was a week of Murphy’s Law for you. I liked what you mentioned about your daughter and her medicine. That’s a great point. How would a child necessarily know about refills? Some adults probably don’t either.

Honest to goodness, I had no idea she viewed it that way. Thankful I asked her why she didn’t want a pill the other night. I wondered about side effects, never occurred to me she was worried about running out. Bless her.

I knew I was missing something in the day to day but I was away for my birthday vacay and then a trip to a local casino as well with a bit of work in the middle so my focus was mostly elsewhere. Thanks for the recap!

The week that was. Wack-o, especially that part about grocery shopping for items vaguely described. Your pet photos are nice. And just think, next week all this time change nonsense will be a memory– all will seem normal again. Or as normal as it gets for you.

The week after we spring ahead is always a weird one for me too. You survived and no animals were harmed, by the looks of it at least. Here’s to a smooth weekend and a bit more normal next week.

The time change is a killer, in addition to being stupid.

I love these recappy peeks into your crazy world. By comparison, my world is in stasis. I have left bags at the store. I also like the secret language you have for food. I wrote one about asking my wife if we had the stuff to make the stuff. We did, and she made it for me 🙂

    Have a great weekend.

Is there anything better than when you ask someone to make you the stuff and then they make the stuff? I love that!

They logged my remaining groceries for me, so I was able to pick them up today.

      Thanks, Dan — you too!

I’m laughing at the photo of Cletus because his expression reflects how I felt all week at work. “I wanna lay down and go to sleep, but must.keep.my.eyes.open.” I was a dog kitten too. Thanks for the furry photos, that made my Friday. Never can get enough of the critters and a big bird head. Have an awesome weekend, Joey.

When you said your whole family dressed up for the thing, I thought the bird-head photos WERE OF YOU GUYS DRESSED UP FOR THE THING. Uh-huh. The time change isn’t bothering me, because I never successfully made the switch the last time, so it’s like “Yes! I been tellin’ you guys you were wrong for, like, SIX MONTHS! FINALLY!”

I’ve never left a bag at the market but I did leave a gallon of milk in the trunk in 90 degree weather for about three days. Took a while to get rid of the smell. Love your little dog cat.

  13. I’m exhausted just reading this. You need to sleep in over the weekend, wear your jammies all day long, have big cups of hot, good coffee, and maybe get taken out to dinner. Yep, that sounds like a plan to get you off to a good start next week. 🙂

    • joey says:

Don’t blame me you feel exhausted — that’s the stupid time change! 😛
That’s super sweet, but none of that will happen! lol
Run around all day tomorrow — first person arrives at 8, then, competitions and concerts. I’ll make all the food this weekend…
BUT on Sunday, I will aim for pajamas all day, you betcha! Nice coffee all weekend, all weekend. Mmhm.

When I was in New Mex I bought a bunch of chickens at a local market to use in one of my joints and left one in the trunk of the business partners car. He got rid of the car. Happy Saturday. Happy St. Paddy’s day.

I got to ease into the time change. The snow day on Monday and delay on Tuesday allowed me to sleep until 8, which was my normal 7. I like the evening being light until later, but those mornings are a bear!
I’m glad to hear that your week had no downs! I have left bags at the grocery store, but I think I’ve been lucky and they haven’t been crucial to a component of a meal.
I keep hearing from Miss Sunshine asking if I’m there for pick up from soccer practice and they’ve been let out earlier than stated pick up time. I’m just gonna pack a book and get there early and read. lol.
I asked the hubby if he knew some of the names of the local streets that we drive. He had to think for a bit, and there were still some he didn’t know!
Those darn recipe thieving hurricanes! I knew they were sneaky.
Ahhh…all the little things you don’t think to teach your kids until situation come up. We’ve had plenty of those!
    Enjoy your weekend!! 🙂

Joey, how I laughed (again!) but it is your last photo that really stopped me in my tracks. You have a cat that looks exactly like our Bella, blue and green eye and all! She’s getting up there in age and recently went deaf and having rear leg weakness issues, but other then that she is strong and very bossy. Happy RELAXING Sunday!!! 😘😘😘

Both time changes are bad, but the one in the late winter that we just did is the real killer for me. You’d think they’d at least wait until it wasn’t dark outside at 7 to change the clocks, but noooo…

Chicken and leaves with salsa sounds good to me…

  27. The time change has been good for me. I’m getting up an hour later on my own. Now instead of waking up between 3-3:30am I’m waking up between 4:30- and 5am! I’m back to normal that’s a WIN! 🙂

Yes, I left a whole cart at the grocery store…well took someone else’s cart while in the produce dept. never noticed til I got home and had all these strange items to put away that I didn’t select.
I’ve wondered at what point did the person who took my cart figure out it wasn’t their cart? 🙂
I also don’t know if I took their cart or they took mine and I took what was were I thought I left it when I turned around to get some lettuce or something?

    Your critters are so cute.

    Hope you’re Thursday was awesome.

the recipe loss was darling (where did that darling word come from – lol) but it was super sweet and in a way – aren’t those the real gems in life – ahhhh
and the Moo and her meds – that whispers of such brilliance to me because it was processing and planning and thinking about the bigger picture and gosh – we know how are kids bring this stuff into adulthood and I just think there are a few strengths/ skills demonstrated here that will serve her well in adulthood (well for many things – not necessarilly when there are refills – ha)
