Within the span of a few weeks, I taught one person how to untangle a standard phone cord, and another person asked me, “How do the old phones still work? Don’t they need power?”
Maybe when they’re my age, younger people will ask them what wi-fi was, or if they’re old enough to remember something called a phone charger. They’ll likely experience the same pause, and then realize: why would they know that?

I forget where we were, but I saw a person using a payphone not too long ago! I made sure to point it out to my kids.

I HAVE a white rotary phone from Sears, back when we were first allowed to buy phones instead of renting, and it still works fine on the house landline (kids will ask what that is, soon enough). Can dial, and everything.

My new house still has wall outlets for plug-in landlines, but of course, no one uses landlines much anymore, and we only have cell phones. My kids came to visit and had a hard time understanding what those outlets were for. Made me feel even older than usual.

Meanwhile, theres a movement to instal fiber optics to the businesses around here to speed up their internet…with the hopes that someday, folks will want to piggyback off that, and theyll be able to access it through their phone wall jacks. (Totally 90s tech, btw.)

That’s kind of sad actually. Untangling phone cords is one of my husband’s “things.” He does it every time he sees a tangled cord no matter where we are. He has a bit of OCD 🙂

I don’t find it sad cause they have no experience with it. I like your husband’s fortitude with phone cords, but then, I’ve got some OCD tendencies as well 🙂

In my first car with electric windows, my son and friend killed the battery running windows up and down while playing with electric seats. Flash forward, my grandson points to window rollup handle on door of my ol’ pick-em-up and asks, “What is that for, Opa?” After I explained, “Oh, how cool!” As he rolls the window up and down with the crank handle.

So believable and funny sweet! My kids only rode in minivans until about two years ago when I got my car. They never got to roll down a window in any way, so they were always excited to ride in someone’s car! Especially auntie’s, cause she’d let them zip em up and down over and over!

Oh my goodness, the list for this current generation is going to be very long indeed. I’ve been keeping a list of examples for quite some time. I used to use them in training classes.

I got the sense that it may have been a set-up by dad. After watching this video, we asked #3 to hang up a hotel phone and she DID look at the receiver before figuring it out. “Hang it up” is like “Dial” now, hm? Same lingo, but really, we press red or green.

LOL! Yeah, we used to have a dial phone at church but we had to replace it because none of the kids knew how to work it. Seriously. I mean, babies do play phones instinctively, but when pushing the wrong button could connect you with Timbuktu or, worse, butt-dialing your mother, I guess you get nervous about ‘sperimenting with ‘lectronics.

We still have a land line with a cord – when the power goes out, it still works and doesn’t need to be recharged.

Hard to believe the kids would be confused by some of the things we grew up using. Then again, that’s what they think of us trying to figure out the ‘smart’ phones! haha

Oh my lord, that video. My husband has a phone like that for work (works from home), so both of the kids have seen and used it, guess I’ll have to find something else to blow their minds over.
