#ThursdayDoors — Yellow Gold

Truth: I never knew there was a golden hour before Norm Frampton wrote about it. I should clarify — I didn’t know ‘golden hour’ was a phrase, because what with having eyes and all, I had occasionally noticed that certain sunsets cast a gold hue.

I was driving home on one of those cold wintery evenings when you wonder if you’ll make it home before the sun sets. I saw some glorious windows all aglow in sunset light, and I thought where there are pretty windows there are often pretty doors.

So I parked and checked it out.

Meh. The doors are meh. The framing is nice. It’s an attractive building.

The light was much better as seen with my own human lenses.

However, I did not take umpteen photographs of this building so we could all go Meh.

Does it have an interesting history? Um, I couldn’t find one.

Disappointed a bit in the doors, and the history, but further intrigued cause Yellow and Art and Language.

That’s some good modern religious art, right there. (It’s not blurry at all in person.) The Soma Church is an interfaith community comprised of several protestant sects. It’s a thoughtful title. I am impressed with the name they’ve given themselves.

Soma — Body — ORRR, if you’re a reader, a perfect drug one may use to cope with A Brave New World.

I took a moment of pause out there in the cold, pondering the richly layered metaphors, images, and quotes that ran through my head.

    I agree – the framing is more interesting that the doors themselves but I’ve seen much more Mehy doors!

    Interesting post. A window can be called a door. If you define door as an entry or exit. Just watch that first step.

    I really like that first photo. The golden hue is amazing and so complete. The artwork is very good. If it’s worth stopping to photo, it’s eorth sharing.

    I like the arched windows. The light was definitely golden, but the doors aren’t calling to me. But, then, all doors aren’t meant to be show-stoppers.

    Light is definitely good. It’s not often one sees interesting artwork on a church, but this is pretty intriguing. 🙂

    The framing really is nice, Joey. Some years ago, when our younger daughter and I were in London, there was a TV show called “The Golden Hour”, which is medically speaking: “the hour immediately following traumatic injury in which medical treatment to prevent irreversible internal damage and optimize the chance of survival is most effective.” (Merriam-Webster) Not quite the same!! 🙂

    Joey, one of my favorite times to photograph is the “golden hour”. It’s magic. There is a glow and I would swear fairies are about. LOVED your images. Thank you for stopping and snapping. And yeah, cool beans about SOMA. That word can be taken in many different manners. Have a good one! 😘

    The frame is lovely, and the light! Photographers favorite times to shoot are Golden Hour, and Blue Period, and we get em twice a day! Course that means we miss dinner, and get up well before the sun does, but Oh, the light is so purty! Just like that light in the first image.

    Being a door’s hunter is not an easy task. I really admire the few who attempt to shwocase a weekly selection. Totally okay to meet a few meh doors once in a while. Your other pics largely compensate.

    I knew the word Soma sounded familiar. Thanks for making the connection. I haven’t read that book since high school but I think I still have my copy – I NEVER through out books.
    Yes golden hour light on a red brick wall is so lovely it doesn’t even need doors or windows to make me slow down and admire it. You captured it wonderfully in those first few shots.

    Nice find, love the modern image on that church, it’s very different to the usual logo. With all those metaphors, images, and quotes running through your head you should be writing books, Joey. I didn’t know about Golden Hour either, before Thursday Doors. I knew about Happy Hour, though. 🙂

    To me the golden hour is that brief wedge of time after my children go to bed but before I pass out from general exhaustion. And there’s almost always wine and sometimes a snack. I’ve developed a guacamole problem. Maybe I should call it the green hour.

    Oh! This was highly peculiar. I took in the art and the lettering and the building, and thought of Huxley, surely, and how Insomma! means something else in Italian, and before I reached the end of the post I tried hard to see what is written under Soma and what kind of establishment this was (art, culture, event centre?), so I enlarged one of the top photos and saw that it says… church. All righty then.

    Great captures of the golden hour. It does have a way of making everything lovely. My life schedule tends to make me miss having a camera on hand during it. 🙂
