I’ve just returned from the market and I’m eating a sammich (turkey, Swiss, avocado, tomato, mayo) and a peach. I bought the peach during a sale last week and all the pretty peaches had been taken. Since I was gonna eat the peaches, I was content to take firm, ugly peaches, and guess what? They’re still delicious. There’s a metaphor in there, in case you didn’t notice.
Moo wore her/my/the gray USMC sweatshirt to the market, which the man behind the counter noticed. He said, “I think your daughter’s shirt misspelled ARMY,” and that turned into a whole long veteran convo about shit I truly do not miss, which is why Moo and I went on shopping, leaving The Mister there to jaw-jack about whatever sounds to me how our lip gloss convos must sound to him.
You know how people have gaydar? My husband has vetdar. It’s good for him. It reconnects him to parts of himself that he can’t express or enjoy fully otherwise. He gets a charge out of it, which I appreciate. However, one thing you can say about empaths runnin into one another, at least we’re fuckin quiet about it.
I suppose whoever we are, wherever we go, we notice people who are like us.

I liked the metaphor. I don’t eat peaches very often, but if they taste good, I don’t care what they look like. Finding connections in the wild is always fun. We all have stuff we like to talk about.

I have a big USMC sweatshirt with a bulldog on it that belonged to my dad. It makes me feel good to wear it anytime I have a challenge (in cool weather). He volunteered with other veterans and loved to talk military with his buddies. Emapths running into each other makes me think of a wink without physically winking.

I love that you wear the USMC sweatshirt still 🙂 The Mister commented today that the girls have taken over all the military sweatshirts, which we think is sweet.
I often wish The Mister would join the VFW or American Legion so he could go get his fill on the regular. I’m sure it would benefit him.

Turkey. The other white meat; or what’s for Linner. Why did the empath cross the road? I like peaches in cobblers; eating out of hand not so much. I think most folks like being part of something bigger than themselves. Like the lip gloss appreciation society. Happy Saturday to you all.

My husband did not serve but he goes out of his way to thank any serviceman he sees anywhere, anytime. He goes up to them and shakes their hand and says “Thank you for your service” so if some random stranger comes up to your husband one day and says that, ask him if his name is Bill – LOL. We have a peach tree in our backyard that is growing some great fruit this year. I’ve already made one peach pie and now I’m going to look for an easy cobbler recipe. Happy Sunday!

I need to try fresh peaches again. Sadly, I like in the can. I love fruit during the summer. Watermelon is my favorite. I picked up a cut up variety of fruit the other day and it had the best tasting honeydew ever. Yum. Wish my kids ate more fruit. 🙂

Vetdar! I love it… because my husband has it too. The reason he went out for gas and came home 4 hours later? He met someone he was stationed with in Japan. When I was worrying he’d fallen off the mountaintop after a hike? He came back with a picture of him and another retired Marine yucking it up at the summit. I have spent more than half my married life waiting for him to finish vet convos. And they say women talk too much? Pfffttt!

I love peaches. Mine are all gone now, but I should get some next year. It produced so heavily, it will probably take some time off next year.

Your lunch sounds perfect to me. I had a big ole peach yesterday for my afternoon snack and it was so, so good. I just cut off a few bruises, and after that I thought I could have given a little bit of the bruised bits to Box the guinea pig. He wouldn’t mind them, and he can always use the vitamin C. Next time!
Your shopping with Moo for lip-gloss reminds me of shopping with Baby Girl when she was younger and we were into “rewards” for accomplishments, and good behavior. It was books, and journals before she could wear make-up, and lip gloss and lip stick when she was allowed to wear it. Good times!

Here it is a week later, and I’m just reading your post! Sorry I get behind on things. Love the sound of your sandwich, and peach. I usually get nectarines, or pears.
Oh you have it right, ‘vetdar’! haha…. it happens all the time with mine. Anywhere we go, they seem to find someone to talk military with, and it can go on for awhile…so I go on doing shopping and check back every once in awhile to see if he’s done talking…usually not. 🙂

I’m curious about the words “gaydar” and “vetdar”. Is it a super power to spot those who are this? Funny because “dar” means gift in Slovenian. So is it like a gift that you always connect with members of the group in question?

So, radar, yeah? Radar is a sound map, based on vibration, yeah? So gaydar is what some people claim allows them to know if other people are gay, too. Is slang and commonly heard here. (At least in my world.)
The vetdar is my play on words because The Mister can find a vet anywhere, like he’s got a honing device, or radar for like kind.
