Not a good day to post about either, I’m afraid. Happy Autumn from Indy!
I’ve not been out in my yard a lot, haven’t even looked at the mums, but it’s always a good idea to plant more mums, no matter how many mums you have.
O’er by the hibiscus I’ve got sweet autumn clematis. It runs the length of the fence we share with the abandoned-house-now-in-reno. Do you have a side of your yard you don’t visit much? Cause that’s mine. There’s about nothin goin on over there, but now that the house on that side isn’t an eyesore, I may visit it more. I figure if I ever run out of space to plant things, I’ll stick em over there. Gotta have a path to the garden gate, though, even if there’s not one right now, because the hibiscus do as they will and like I said, I haven’t been out there much. Could use a trim.

Sweet autumn clematis is pretty, kinda light n’ fluffy n’ boing-y. I’d say it’s hard to photograph well, but what I mean is that I don’t photograph it well. You just plant it and it grows. It spreads on its own over time. It starts vining in July and it blooms in late August and lasts til the first freeze, sometimes, the lower ones last longer. It smells very, very good. Kinda like honeysuckle meets lily of the valley. I went out there last weekend and caught a few sniffs and snaps.
I’ve got nothin on the flour bit. You wanna see my flour canister? Or the baking cabinet? Nah. I did pick up some grocery store bakery cookies last night. The lofthouse sort. Ours are yellow. With sprinkles. I love those cookies, but I wish they didn’t have sprinkles. Sprinkles are quite cute, I just don’t want to eat them. Anyway, did you know the copycat version is made by adding a cup of flour to a boxed cake mix? Yep.
That’s all I got. Cause it’s 67F/19C and I gotta be OUT in that!

I was just sitting and watching football when I realized I had not seen your SoCS. You know I enjoy those. I enjoy the out doors. I just don’t know how to take care of it. We used to have Clematis vine growing up a trellis over a gate in the back yard. You have a lovely yard. I don’t get outdoors enough. So what is with the flour? Have a great weekend. It is gonna be some great weather. I would just prefer more sun.

Thank you! Linda often uses prompts that are homophones, so it was flower/flour. We have a big purple one on the arbor out back, and it’s pretty, but I prefer this lil white one, it’s so prolific and cheery when everything else is starting to go.

Looks like lots of summer left. I know there are fall flowers and summer flowers but I lump them altogether and go with ‘if it blooms, it’s a spring or summer thing’ cuz I don’t have much room in my head for that.

It is still so hot here. Heat index over 100 all this week…not fun. I do have one side of the house that gets rare visits from me. Gotta visit it early morning when those neighbors are still sleeping. They try, they really do. But they have got to get a handle on their yard. Been baking all morning. Come on over for some pumpkin muffins…blueberry is heading in the oven soon.

It’s funny how there is a rarely visited side of the house. Seems we’ve always had one of those. Here, one big whole side is the garden area, but we haven’t planted anything in years. The other side is the cat’s shelter place & they own that side. Anyway, I don’t go out much at all, just to feed the cats on the back porch, or the front sidewalk. Our yards are boring. I like yours! 🙂

Took me a minute to realize that when you wrote “abandoned-house-now-in-reno,” you meant it was being renovated, not that it was being picked up and moved to Reno…
Very nice flowers! We have the proverbial black thumbs. Honestly, we wonder what the hell possessed us to buy a house…

Yes- daffodils still have a few clumps emege- through a shade loving ground cover

and whew – I cringe a little to remember the maze of little plots I had at one time. My hubs never complained (trimming around them) but in the last couple years he has said MANY times how awesome it is to not have them anymore. hah

Well, I’m lovin’ the pretty pretty flower photos. My yard is woefully lacking in the floral department, and I have way more flour in my kitchen than I can use these days.

I have never seen Sweet Autumn Clematis so you provided me a plant learning opportunity here. After doing some research, I need to ask if you have a support under or around it? And, thank you for the cookie clue. I like them too but not the sprinkles. We had frost up north this morning. Fall is definitely here. 🙂

Yes, they are growing up a chain link fence, so that’s their support. They hang to our side mostly, but there is some overhang to the neighbors and they don’t seem to mind. I am jealous of your frost!

Sweet autumn clematis? Now that’s new to me. I wonder if it grows way up north where I am. Sounds very sniff-worthy.

The fragrance is lovely. I bet it does grow up there, just because it has a long dormant and short blooming phase. Might be something nice to add to your patio oasis.

I can’t say I’ve ever seen autumn clematis but it looks lovely. At this time of year when everything takes on that death and decaying look, it would be nice to see some fresh white flowers for a change.

Hey, Joey, I like the overgrown and plentiful look. It has its own charm. You must live in a different planting zone then I do cause I don’t think your Clematis would survive here. The smells that you described are making my mouth water and my Heart yearn. OHHHHHH there is nothing like a sweet smelling yard. I’ve been doing a lot of putting manure in soil lately and just the smell of green and soil are heady to me. Getting huge doses of negative ions are just what I need these days! Happy Monday!! 🦋

Mom had that sweet autumn clematis on the side of her house. Don’t know if the renters will keep it. I can’t transplant it here, because Charlie hates it! He hates it because it does take over. I would love to have the entire house totally encased in it and smelling delicious all fall.

Thanks for the lovely photos. The summer here in VA was either very hot or very wet so I didn’t get out into my lil patch of garden much this year. The rudbeckia took over and the tomatoes failed but that’s nature. I don’t know if I have room but I’d like to try the autumn clematis.

Thank you very much for stopping by! I don’t have rudebeckia here YET — it’s one of the things I’d like to discuss with my sunny-side neighbor before I plant. Because as you say, it spreads vigorously. He might like it the first few years, but later, I don’t want him to turn on me!
If you’ve got half a foot up a structure, you have room for the sweet autumn clematis 🙂

That clematis is so pretty. It makes the yard look so alive. My yard is in need of some serious rehab. We’re redoing the fence and a bathroom right now, so the yard project got pushed out.
