So last Friday, which was a very, very good day for me, The Mister had a bad thing at work and I …
He made reservations and I got even happier and then after we drove the children to all the things ever on Saturday, we went out to eat.
We arrived in the darkness. Downtown on a Saturday night, like fucking grown-ups, man.
I whipped out my phone and The Mister thought I wanted to take a picture of us.
UM. YES, I totally want to take a picture of us. I didn’t even notice the door.
Twas dark.
Inside, there was light, but also other people. Say hi to the stranger lady, Everyone.
We ate that. The Mister had the Duck Duck.
I had the bone marrow, with arugula, tomato bacon jam, roasted garbanzo beans and two pieces of sourdough toast. The waiter said this often isn’t enough to satisfy, so he suggested I order a side, even though we had fries. I ordered the dates.
The bone marrow dish was enough to satisfy me, oh yes, mhm, but I had some of the dates and I love dates.
Dates on a date. Heh.
I went to the ladies’, it had a door.
Upon my exit, I saw another door, which reminded of me why we had not gone to Union50 in a long time, despite The Mister’s love of their Duck Duck.
Live music.
We love live music. We love food. We do not love them together. We like to talk while we eat, and we like to hear one another. Fortunately, no live music that night.
Still I went into the quiet liminal space, where I caught this other door.
Then while we waited for the valet, I got a few more.
I thought it was kind of ironic — taking a photo while being under surveillance.
Then we went home where we had the place all to ourselves.
Ahh, DATE NIGHT!

I wanna go there but night times are not my comfortable times. I swear the first warm evening I will be there. Warm because of light. I love bone marrow and dates. Nice doors. They look sturdy. Substantial. Like bone marrow. Enjoy your day.

Oh it is delicious. You must go on some random warm evening. It seems it’s just you and me on the bone marrow. People don’t even know what they’re missin!
I recommend the duck fries with rosemary and garlic aioli, the bone marrow, and all the drinks ever. They do some mighty fine draaanks 😛

Sounds like a pretty good night to me. I had to stop eating dates. I lost a day in Seattle due to an allergy I never knew I had. They were so lovely at Pikes Marketplace, and I wish I’d have passed them over.

That is SO awful. Everything at Pike Place, amirite? 😛 BUT NOT DATES. No. Not for you!

And what if you were taking a photo while under surveillance while someone monitored the surveillance company’s work…who knows how many eyes were involved in that photo! 😆

Yay date night! Duck done properly is a good reason to go out, but I agree: not if you have to put up with live music while trying to eat and converse. Some things just don’t go well together 🙂

Yeah for Date Night! Dinner looked good, and I’m with you on not going where it’s so loud you can’t hear yourself talk let alone hear the one your dining with!
The doors were a nice bonus.

That sounds great and looks even better. We may go to Hat Creek tonight (burgers, beer, and other peps kids), if this plumber ever gets done. He has been swearing for a while, which is why I no longer play handyman or plumber. Sounds like the wind is at your back, Joey. Keep that shit up.

Is it just me or does this place seem strangely exotic and the Riser Room Door a little creepy with the ? shadow. I’ll pass on the bone marrow but love arugula and dates. Glad you went somewhere special.

It was an unusual shadow, I agree. It’s kind of a funky place.

A true date door night to be enjoyed. I like dates because the minute I hear the word I think of the amazing date bars an aunt made when I was a kid. Have a great weekend with or without kids. 🙂

Bone marrow, you say… I have not encountered that anywhere served in this way. Is this an American restaurant or combined with an ethnicity? The food doesn’t appear to be typical American, but how would I know. I’m so glad you had dates on a great date. 🙂 (Dates served this way too, really?)

It’s American fare. We have a lot of cows and ducks, I promise.
The dates were roasted, stuffed with goat cheese and drizzled with honey. There was some gastrique on the side, but I don’t recall what it was.

You collected some fine doors during a date night. I like the way you handled the first one.

Dates on a date nice! Even nicer, date night!! I haven’t tried bone marrow. I remember reading someone else mentioning that it is tasty. Looks like a fun evening…and you managed to capture some doors! 🙂

Sounds like my kind of night, Joey, good food and no loud music blasting in the background. Thanks for bringing us along, virtually. Now I’m hungry. Off to make pancakes, methinks.

Great doors. Happy story. Gorgeous food! I bet those weren’t fries; I bet those were frites. They look like frites. Ver’ fancy food!
