It’s Friday and it was supposed to snow. It didn’t snow. It did get below freezing. It’s not only sweater weather now, it’s maybe-wear-a-coat weather, too. I likey. Don’t hate me. I was born this way.
People always be like, “It’s cause you’re still young” and “It’s because you’re overweight” or “It’s the hormones.” Stop that shit. It’s cause I like cold weather and hate to be hot. Period. Been this way all my life, and y’all, if you can imagine, I’ve been younger — too young to blame hormones, and at some points, downright skinny, and I have always, always, always hated to be hot.
You can look at pictures of juvenile me and see it plain as day. Pictures of me at summer camp — you can pick me out easy — in a sea of tan, glistening blondes, I am the red-faced ghost. If I am wearing a sundress and smiling, it is only because I am in the nice climate-controlled environment of the portrait studio, okay? (And maybe cause my mommy said there’d be ice cream after. I am highly motivated by ice cream CAUSE IT’S COLD!)
There are no unhappy photos of me out in the cold and snow. When it’s cold, not crazy cold, I no like crazy cold, *shakes head* I walk around smiling, all red-cheeked, tra-la-la, look at all the hot I’m not bein. Simply cannot help but smile.
People: “SUMMERTIME!”
Me: “AIR-CONDITIONING!”
People: “Dreary gray skies make me feel so sad.”
Me: “I can see and my skin is not made of sticky fire!”
It was 7C/44F yesterday on the way in, and I saw a mitten-clad teenager dressed so that her parka met her boots and I could not help but ask, “My God, what does she wear when it gets cold?” I half-wondered if she’s from southeast Georgia.
Meanwhile, on my breaks at work, I was out in a light sweater, trousers, and ballet flats without socks. I was out kickin up leaves, wind blowin through my hair — Ooh, those were good breaks!
My nose ran a lil and I LIKED IT, okay?
I like cold weather, old things, kale, rain, dog shows, black licorice, twinkly lights, and white wine at room temperature. You like things I cannot stand. Things like unsweetened iced tea, hotels, baseball, black eyeliner, industrial metal, riding horses, gin, rooftop views, and sunrises. Ew. No, wait, I do like sunrises when I’m still half-drunk and about to sleep.
Let’s just enjoy our differences.
HAPPY first cold FRIDAY of the season EVERYONE!
Happy cold Friday to you! 😀 I like mine balmy. Here the sun is still so hot when it peaks out of the rainclouds that I could go to the beach. In fact I did go a few days ago, without any jacket. Viva las diferencias, indeed.

Happy Friday, Joey! I just looked outside and I am seeing the white stuff here. You wanna trade? 😲😯

We did get some white stuff, but it didn’t amount to anything. I felt it on my skin and saw it on the black doormat, but otherwise, it was invisible 🙂 AND YES, I would trade!

Hehehehe …. yeah yeah yeah I KNOW you would trade with me. Just a dusting here and that ain’t staying if I have anything to say about it ….

Bah. Humbug Grumble Grumble… My thoughts on the weather are clear. I start wearing a watch cap today and it will be my head gear until April. And what Idiot would call you “over weight”? That is just silly talk. You just like the cold, same as Clara Lee. I don’t get it but I ain’t supposed to. Hope your weekend is great.

I love that you always wear hats. It makes you look dapper. Sorry you need the warm hat now, sorry for you — but happy for me 🙂
I’m glad Clara Lee likes the cold, too! I hope y’all have a cozy weekend!

I am sending this to the Mrs. “Stop that shit. It’s cause I like cold weather and hate to be hot.” – Yeah, that’s what I married. I prefer cold to hot (at the extremes) because I can get warm and still do stuff. You reach a point where you can’t take more stuff off. The first cold crisp days of winter-ish are the best. Breathing feels better, moving around feels better, even being out with the dog seems easier.
Happy Friday, Joey – I hope it’s a clear cold weekend.

Right on. I do so like your wife. And I agree. My grandma’s the one who taught me cold is better. You can layer, you can get a blanket, can’t take enough off to get cool! As anyone whose air conditioning has gone out can tell you, nude ain’t much help.
I agree, fall and spring dog walking are tops!

I adore crisp clean autumn air with a touch of chill. All my life I loved the sun and baked happily in it…. now? Since Menopause with a capital M? Bring on the cold. My husband sits shivering in the house while I refuse to crank the thermostat. I can’t even think of wearing a sweater and haven’t for 3 years. I went through last winter.. in Maine!… with only a fall jacket. Of course this past July? I barely wanted to leave the air conditioned house.

Maybe you CAN blame hormones in your case. Or, didja just toughen up living there? Either way — Maine, you lucky gal! 🙂

Cool-cold is OK, sure Joey. But cold-cold, I’m not a play-in-the-snow kind of guy. And still I remain a diehard northerner, happy about good heaters …

The value of a good heater is tremendously important! We have had furnace issues 3 outta 4 winters here, and 56 inside, while nice compared to the 10 outside? Not warm enough!

That is not good at all, Joey. Brrrrrr.

It’s barely getting over 70° here; harder to justify the outdoor pool, but they do keep it, and the hot tub next to it, heated (aqua aerobics at 9am is the most used class here).
Is it possible you hate humidity more than heat? It’s certainly easier to take heat with lower humidity.
If not, well, so be it. We can still be friends.

Desert heat is a skosh bit better than gulf heat, but nah, I like it cold 🙂 Friends we shall be!

YES!!! Let’s! You being so happy and comfy in the cold is wonderful and you show me how wonderful it can be. It’s not for me, but I love how much you relish it!
When you find out what that teenager wears when it really gets cold let me know please, cause I’m already bundled up using the space heater and wearing a coat outside, and it’s in the 50’s here. 😭
I sure hope I aint too old to adapt to a new climate cause winters are colder where I’m headed.

Oh you poor dear. It must be terrible for you in winter as it is for me in summer.

You make cold weather sound fun. We pretty much have our heavy coats on in 44 degrees. I do like rainy days because usually the sun is so bright and hot it’s dazzles your eyes too much.
Happy Fall Friday! 🙂

Makes sense! When you live where it’s hot most of the year, you do adapt accordingly. Even I did to a certain degree.
Blinding sun is not my friend, either!

What a dull place it would be if we all liked the same things. We can share some of the same likes (black licorice, baseball, hotels, sunrises) but I prefer the hot not the cold. Gimme the sun. Happy Friday!

We’ll share black licorice, cause the rest are things I don’t like! 😉 And yeah, it’d be dull. Ick!

I prefer it colder too, but not -40 cold where I came from…and I while I love looking at snow, I’m pretty happy I don’t have to shovel it any more! Enjoy your cold day 🙂

I don’t like hot weather either – snow is okay if I don’t have to drive in it. Right now any place in California would welcome snow.

Tomorrow it’s supposed to get cold here. I can’t wait for the freezing temps. With them come the death of many pollens that irritate my eyes. Can’t wait, I tell ‘ya.

I’m feeling it – our differences that is. 🙂 I don’t like it when it gets hot and humid, but I don’t like the cold because it means the “s” word and I have to get those tools that start with “s” out of the barn and use them. Just thinking about it, makes my fingers cold, my back hurt, and the need to find my ice cleats so I don’t fall on my butt moving that “s” stuff. I’m sitting here with the heat on, plenty of layers, and an afghan. We’re expecting rain tonight but they’re looking for 2-6″ of the white stuff a little further north. 🙂 Have a great crisp, cold, fall weekend. 🙂

I love the snow and don’t mind shoveling until it’s that heavy wet stuff. Apparently the snow of 2014 was too heavy and gave me a shoulder injury — AND NOW I HAVE TO STRETCH BEFORE I SHOVEL FOR PITY’S SAKE! *rolls eyes* So I get that. And y’all get more snow than we do most years, so yeah, I feel ya.
I’ve been out in the cold a lot this weekend, tra-la-laing 🙂 I hope you’ve been cozy!

I do understand the parka down to the boots. I don’t have one of those…only to mid-thigh, but I wouldn’t mind having one. We are planning to hike today even though it is 39 and super windy. It’s the wind that does me in, but I’m like a marathoner. Only instead of distance, I’m training my body to still be outdoors even as it gets colder and colder. Enjoy this crisp weather!

Luckily, since we were down in the trees they seemed to buffer most of the wind. It was a nice hike. 🙂

You and I agree on kale, black licorice and twinkly lights.
In regard to body temps, you and I are polar opposites, although I have found I’m not as cold as I once thought. (When one of my bosses has her heater going when the A/C is on 73 degrees, I don’t feel quite so chilly.) Maybe I should say I’m cool? 😉
Anyhow, I’ve had the chilly/cold/cool tendencies all my life, same as your tendencies. It changed a bit with menopause (I can no longer stand turtlenecks and I still sweat at inappropriate times), but I prefer the heat of summer, of a hot shower on a winter’s day, the long underwear worn under dress pants, my extra warm winter coat with the furry warm hood, and the bedroom heater that warms up the room in the morning. I hate really cold winter mornings, but I have a garage to park in this winter, so it will make life a little warmer for me.
Enjoy your cool/cold days, Joey. I won’t judge if I see in you mid January with a jean jacket, capris and flipflops, trudging into the mall for something lighter to wear. :-p

I will envy your garage. We have a garage and I suppose one of us could park in it, but it has door issues and we’re afraid of worsening it, so it’s best we don’t.
I also agree with you on cold mornings and hot — well for me, baths. Waking up in the cold makes it harder to leave the bed!
You won’t see me in flip-flops or capris this winter, sometimes I break out the long underwear, for snow play.
Mentor is one of those people who runs her space heater in the summer. I’d go in her office and be like, “To discuss this matter further, come to my office where I can breathe!” lol

I saw an ad yesterday for some type of device that is supposed to decrease your body temperature by plus or minus 5 degrees. (Fuck the plus though.) It looks like a smart watch and has an app, and you’re supposed to be able to program it. Not sure how the hell it works, but if it does, then shut up and take my money.

The last time I saw anything like that was this gadget that resembled earmuffs for your neck — cooling.
